  • Dear viewer,
In this video I am showing the most common culprit for the loss of coolant - the engine coolant expansion tank. When a car loosed coolant there a lot of things that might cause it, but it is always better to check the basics. The coolant expansion tank is one of these basic things which are often overlooked. So, if you car is loosing coolant, first check the expansion tank and related hoses.
In this video you will see that exactly the expansion tank is what was causing the coolant leak on my Audi S6 and therefore, I had to replace it. The procedure that I am showing is applicable to pretty much any Audi A6 for the C6 Generation 2004- 2011 with the only difference being that on the S6 5.2 V10 it is considerably harder to do and a lot more costly, due to the fact that there aren't (at least I wasn't able to find in Europe) aftermarket expansion tanks.
As always, if you have any questions please leave a comment in the comment section below and I will do my best to answer them. If you liked the video and found it helpful please leave a like and consider subscribing. Thanks!

Good morning. What coolant should I use for a S6 2011 v10? Is it pink or purple?

Do you know what that third hose connection looking post is for? My S6 seems to be leaking coolant from there but im thinking it could just be a crack on the back side of the reservoir.

If you are referring to the three protruding bits of plastic under the reservoir, one is an outlet, second one is the electrical connection for the coolant level sensor and the third is just a locating post, which is used to place the coolant reservoir in the correct location. There is not hose that attaches to that third post.
If you have coolant leaking, most likely you have hair-line cracks in the reservoir on the back side which are impossible to see without actually removing the entire thing.

I am not surprised, it is quite common on these vehicles.

I have a coolant leak at the front right end of my engine. My shop can't find where it's coming from... Leak occurs only after driving. It just squirts like half a liter from somewhere in the front.

On the driver's side front there is the water pump, thermostat and an aux radiator. Usually the thermostat is the one that leaks. I would look into that first. Best way to do it is to get one of those tools that allow you to pressurize the system and check for leaks under the car.

I completely agree! This was one of my earlier videos and I didn't really pay that much attention on how to properly film what I was doing.
