  • You are not too old to learn how to fly, get your instrument rating or get a job flying! I’m 57 and I started this channel because I wanted to change the way people think about their 50's. Now is the time to do new things and stretch your horizons.
    The emails I’ve been receiving over the past few months have been asking one question: Am I too old to get started? Absolutely not!
    So let’s take a look at all these people who are celebrities but they are still kicking ass as though they were in their 30s:
    Daryl Hall -74
    Harrison Ford-78
    Lauren Michaels-75
    Christopher Plummer 80's
    Michael Douglas 77-
    Paul McCartney 77
    and the entire Rolling Stones 76 (average age)
    So that should give you an idea of who’s out there kicking ass and they’re a lot older than us! I know they’re celebrities but still they’re still doing it. Don’t let anything stop you now.
    You have to keep yourself sharp and if we prepare our minds and our bodies now for our 60s 70s and beyond, we’re going to be in really good shape. How many of us have seen people that they’re OK and the minute they hit their mid-70s they just go downhill really fast. All the people who do well into their 70's have one thing in common. They took care of themselves well and we need to do the same starting now.
    Have you always wanted to learn how to fly but now you are over 50? Get out there and start and learn! There are so many people in there 50's and 60's who are just starting to fly so what are you waiting for?

    I'm 71. I started flying many years ago as a kid. My Uncle had a Taylorcraft. I started on the road to get my PPL in 2017. I had maybe 120hours from when I was a kid. I started from scratch though. Solo'd at 74 hours and bought my Grand Daughters Great Grandfather's Cessna T182R right after I got my PPL. Did the High Performance endorsement and went on to get my IFR rating about 8 months later. I'm at just under 1600 hrs now,..
    This is just about the most rewarding thing I've ever been involved in. I HIGHLY encourage Anyone to go learn to fly. No matter your age!

      @@coppi60 I am in the process of getting my PPL but have recently hit a roadblock with my medical. I have heard rumors (nothing official yet from the FAA) that if the FAA denies a medical for the PPL, the Sports Pilot is also denied. Still trying to get clarification from the FAA, especially when most everything I would be able to afford would be Light Sport.
      I have also heard rumors of aging pilots who fly under the Light Sport rules to avoid the medical and potentially being permanently grounded.

    • @coppi60
      @coppi60 3 роки тому

      @@mattlewis1063 That is correct about the medical. Once denied, you cannot fly as a sport pilot without the medical. That is the reason that it is a good idea to just fly under the sport pilot rules if you have any doubts about receiving the 3rd class or higher medical. Under the sport pilot, as long as your driver's license is valid, you are good to go. Of course you still have to decide before every flight if you are medically ok to fly at that time. Good luck to you.

      @mattlewis1063 3 роки тому

      @@coppi60 Thanks !! Thus far my medical has been deferred due to something from well over 10 years ago.
      I can drive (I drive for a living for the local government) and have other work qualifications that far exceed the PPL medical requirement. I box-kickbox several times a week and within the last few years I have completed several obstacle course races, including Savage Race (6+ miles, 30 obstacles)
      I am simply waiting for the FAA to decide what I can do to prove them that I am physically fit. I expect that wait will continue into 2021. Ugh

    Currently, I am 61 years old and hold a commercial, multi engine, single engine, instrument airplane certificate. I learn to fly when I was 21. A C-152 dual was $47 an hour! Yes, you’re never too old to fly but also I am too old to ever progress to any professional aviation job, other than maybe flight instructor. I didn’t do that in the past because there was no viable living since flying has become very expensive and unless you get hired by a school, you cannot earn enough to call it a standard of living. It is also nice to be at a time in your life when you can afford to buy an airplane. Something I will never achieve.

There are certain life skills that are aquired through life....simply driving my boat across the river with current while fighting the wind on the bow.... just so many things that only experience with age can give. Of course reflexes are down but I found flying to be a great excercise for my brain and body.
