I've had my DeskPi Pro case for about four months now. I put a RPi 4B with 4GB Ram in it along with a 1TB SSD. They'll have to design something better than that to get me to change. The DeskPi Pro case does EVERYTHING that the Argon variants do, and a lot of it better. I don't have to buy a special add-on to use a M2 SSD. My Pi stays cool. I have access to the I/O pins. The list of benefits is huge. Love my DeskPi Pro case.

I have a DeskPI and love it. I didn’t want to have my ssd external of the PI and reviews of the Argon case were mixed. The DeskPI seemed to be a Cadillac of cases which I wanted for my 24/7 Pihole/home assistant server.
Another feature DeskPi has over the RPi P400 is, it has a standard stereo headphone jack. The only way to output sound from P400 is via Bluetooth. That means you must already owned BT headphone, BT speakers ready to watch UA-cam… Don’t understand why P400 opted out headphone jack. In my opinion, P400 is a terrible design and I regretted buying it.
HDMI is also a sound output. But yes, no analog out is not the best part of that design. Also the two mini HDMI. I'd prefered a full sice HDMI and analog Stereo out.
I use a little Yamaha amp that has a USB interface. Works out of the box . So that along with HDMI and Bluetooth there's 3 options. The other is an audio card attached to the gpio (i2c hat)I know people moan about the lack of audio jack and I agree it's inconvenient but yeah there are a bunch of ways to get sound. (Just remember alsamixer in terminal then f6 to select your audio device.) But yeah the nature of RPI, even the 400 a bit of a tinkerers device.
I bought 1 & immediately returned it, didn't even take it out of the box... no audio jack was my main reason..! I didn't notice the issue till after I had ordered it.
If they hadn't included the raspberry pi box, you know something 5 people would have complained and been all butt-hurt, so what the hell it weighs nothing send it.
I am not an expert, can somebody tell me the code or reference for the 2pin-connector on the fan?? Overall it is a fantastic product. The fan in mine gives a rattleing noise on 25%-50% and 75% percent, on 100% worked fine. So i ended up buying a 40x7mm fan with 2pin connector for 4£. Only when i installed i realised the connector on the new fan is smaller than on the original one, cut the wires and used the soldering machine. Nice review! Thank you!
I’m using my Pi as an emulation station. Later it might become a home automation box. The problem with using the Raspberry Pi as a desktop is the Raspberry Pi. Even 4 with 8GB of Ram (what I have), it’s still too weak to run much….UA-cam is slow compared even to a 6 year old laptop, which I would rather have. It’s getting there but not there yet.
rPi platform for desktop use is very laggy. I have almost all rPi 2/3/4 model but even the latest is very frustrating to use. As a server platform rPi is very good but i gave up on it for desktop.
I love the raspberry pi, and it's cool that some are able to make the desktop side of it work for them, but i think some of these cases just start to make the value for money for the pi concept a bit much (even with a ssd boot drive). I look forward to seeing the 64-bit operating system, and see if things improve for desktop use, but for me, the raspberry pi is better suited for awesome server projects.
@AstroCat From what i have read, video decoding has been an issue with 64-bit. I know with 32-bit raspberry pi OS, youtube 1080p 30fps can be manageable, but as soon as that lifts to 60fps, things fall apart. There are bugs in other online video streaming services i've tried as well. I know there are work arounds to this, but it's always been a reason i stop using a desktop version for the pi. Chromium has issues with google accounts as well now which is disappointing, but i know it's through no fault of the developers... i read this is on google distancing themselves from chromium. I will check out ubuntu 64-bit. Technology moves faster than i can keep up... pretty sure there were several reasons i avoided 64-bit ubuntu on the pi, but i cant remember what they all were. :)
Great video as usual. Looks like a solid case. I would like to see the company create a version that does not use USB to connect the Pi to the case. I'd also like them to offer more SSD connection types: SATA, NVMe, and M.2. Then I could use it as a desktop or mini server.
I actually ordered one months ago after watching ETA Prime's video. I was unaware that they now offer pre-built DeskPi's. I purchased one and also a SSD at a local store. I want to learn more Linux...CLI to just being "familiar" with the OS. Then.... Speaking of OS; I want to distro hop for awhile.
Have you tried single short press on the power button for safe shutdown (similar to a PC)? As the long press would usually be a force shutdown on a PC and seem to be the case for the desk pi.
Well, I still prefer the R-Pi 400. The 4GB only in the rpi400 definitely is a downside. However, you also can just connect an external ssd to the rpi400 via usb, just like the deskpi does inside the case. For me the actual „downside“ of the deskpi is the cooling system. It seems far too much. I use an rpi400 overclocked to 2GHz and the cooling is no issue whatsoever for usual desktop use. And then you can maximally overclock to 2.1 GHz anyways, independent of the cooling. So why would I pay for an expensive cooling system, that is unnecessary? However, i guess the DeskPi looks nicer on your desk than a pink R-Pi 400, especially if you have added a decent looking mouse and keyboard :)
Do you still have access to the Pi GPIO pins or are thesed used by the case? I need a case which I can modify to include a mini led display but I need the first 6 pins of the GPIO. Usually these are used on these cases for the power button and other functions.
What a useless case. Why didn't they even add sata or msata support? Heck anything for proper mass media. Naming convention in this one should be illegal. *edit* OK it is indeed seems to have support for m2.
@AstroCat Honestly, looking long winded video isn't my thing. I watched about 3/4 of this and missed m2 option. Happy now? Still not very impressed about this. Plain sheet metal casing just doesn't convince me. I'd much rather get argon.

The Argon M2 has one major liability, the fact that the case makes the SD slot inaccessible without disassembly. This one avoid that.

Did you find suitable script/add on for Home Assistant OS to control the ICE Tower Cooler? Or do you run HAOS in a docker?

My original canakit psu for my rpi4 is now giving me low voltage ⚡ with deskpi v2. Time to get OE psu. Love the case.

From what I see in the video, the DeskPi Pro v2 package looks awesome. The heat sink is amazing. Why are the USB slots in the back so close together?

@AstroCat I thought that would be the case, from memory and some time ago now when i used a pi with kodi, it seemed to work quite well :)
The Deskpi Pro v3 needs 20+ pcie lanes and room for a power supply capable of handling a nice GPU
Has anyone measured power numbers with an SSD installed? Probably idles a watt or so over just the RPi???

Isn't a short push a safe turn off? And if you hold it for 4 seconds, it just turn itself of? Just like most PC cases.
i dont like the easy access of sd cards on raspberry pi cases, its just way to easy to disable it by removal, comment before the ssd part...

safe shutdown button? you just shutdown the system, it will send signal to deskpi and cut off the power.

The GPIO pins are exposed on the back. I didn't have a use-case to test that with, but my understanding is that it should work.
