Hydrogen or BEV BMW?
I have never seen nor heard of a hydrogen powered car before. This is interesting.
@@BabyDontHearnMeNoMore It's actually still an electric car. But instead of a battery pack, it uses hydrogen to power the electric motor
@@bmwblog How is it electric if it requires hydrogen?
@@thezopelo the hydrogen powers the electric motor
Hydrogen
Dude is so rich he uses hydrogen pumps just to check if he still has hydrogen
Who is rich?
@@bmwbloghe's talking about you
@@TylerTMG Then I guess the comment didn't make much sense, but all good
Top comment does NOT disappoint, I hear you Mr. G. 😅
the price is insane
They want it to be 1$/kg eventually in Texas, hope the same for California as that's 36/kg atm
This is the future. Not battery vehicles.
🤮
This may be the future for trucks and planes. This costs 10 times as much as an electric vehicle to travel the same distance plus you have a fuel cell a battery and 2 tanks under immense pressure taking up load space. A modern EV with a skateboard battery has loads more internal space and you can charge at home for a fraction of the price. Couple all that with the fact battery tech keeps getting better and better and multiple companies have announced they are starting to produce solid state batteries means my my money is on EVs for the future of cars.
@terrancedactielle5460 just like with new tvs , it has to get to the rich, then middle class then mass produce so that all levels of wealth can make this fuel less expensive.
I do think hydrogen powered vehicles are easier to implement because the infrastructure is already there. Many gas stations can replace a gas pump with an H² pump easier than you can build EV chargers all across the United States for example. But, this is still pretty expensive including how the hydrogen is acquired. EVs on the other hand, do charge slower but they cost less to fill up than both gas and hydrogen.
The issue comes in with both the prevalence of battery-electric vehicles and how the hydrogen is made. BEVs are already what many automakers have bet on as becoming the replacement for gas powered vehicles, despite their many caveats such as: generally having lower ranges (this is getting better) than their gas/hybrid counterparts, relying on expensive lithium-ion technology (sodium-ion is said to enter the market), and their high prices compared to gas cars or even hybrids. Hydrogen fuel cells are great with range and initially had some subsidizing to make the fuel cheaper. But the stigma around the instability of hydrogen and the high electrical cost of splitting water molecules into elemental hydrogen, unfortunately, made the deal a lot less savory for automakers.
With that said, it would be nice to see a better split of hybrids, BEV, and hydrogen cars out on the road. And out of all of these, hydrogen power being the cleanest to run would definitely be a major positive. These cars may be slower and less enjoyable to drive than a BEV, but the technology and the potential convenience it offers similar to a gas car could rope in buyers if the costs were much lower.
So you are saying you rather have a 3000 lb battery thats needs to be replaced every 100,000 miles over a 100 lb hydrogen tank that can be replaced and refueled in minutes .
700 bars is scary.. Any loose flange and the whiplash alone would kill everyone.. Leaks are a different disaster. Also, how safe are the car tanks for summers? And for warmer climate countries in ME, Asia and Africa?
There’s something wrong with the left flange!
No different than filling up with LPG
how it smells?
And the pressure ☠️ also this shit gas lpg boily liquid
@@clumsie3848 LG is natural gas
If you have a gas stove in your house, that’s how it smells like

700 bar!!!!!!!!!
Jesus that level of pressure is scary.
Most people dont realise just how insane that is
700 bar absolutely crazy....... Catastrophic is something goes wrong
Yes. Not sitting on that.
Thats like venus pressure..
700 bar is like being under 7km deep water (not quite considering water density). Or imagining that tank of gas explodes, in theory can travel 7km from that station provided it doesn’t hit anythinf
Over 10000 PSI
Good Luck finding a working hydrogen station. 😂
There wasn’t a lot of gas stations when gas cars came out either
They're everywhere in the NL already! :)
@@LostClawsure, but gas stations were built out very quickly by the hundreds in the first decade of the mass-market automobile. On the other hand, it’s been over a decade since automakers began investing heavily in hydrogen and there are only a few dozen H2 stations across the entire USA. And hydrogen is still expensive as f***.
I so hope this tech takes off 🙏🏼
The most important thing is the last line of the sticker on the tank lid which can be translated to „Date of total loss 12/2033“ Or how much will the replacement of the hydrogen system cost the owner?
Shucks next to nothing 😅
200 bars🤯

Hopefully we get to see more of this
IF YOU HAVE MONEY FOR EVERYTHING OF A CAR AND CHARGE IN MINUTES, THAN YOU ARE THE RIGHT PERSON FOR WATCHING THIS VIDEO...
Nice
What's the range on it
Australian log cars have done similar for decades
Put Electricity straight into
Battery cells instead of using to produce Hydrogen and transport it to a station where people will put it in their cars.
Huuuge waste of energy compared to EV’s
That’s cool
They should have shown off when the pump gets stuck after it freezes on. Ha I love hydrogen but man it can be a pain! So excited that bmw is jumping into the ring. We love our Toyota Mirai hydrogen. We’re also bmw fans, so we have the i3 which we also love.
Does it get stuck when it’s cold?
@@bmwblog The hose itself gets really cold, because the hydrogen is held at like -400 degrees F. If the weather is a little cold, I'm talking like 70s, it'll get stuck and you need to wait for it to thaw off. I think if it's too hot it'll freeze too? I don't remember. And the pumps are down a lot. You'll see abandoned cars at stations sometimes. Assuming because they are too low on fuel to get to another station, and the one they made it to went down as they were trying to refuel. Happens quite a bit. I imagine with more money thrown at the infrastructure, it won't be as big an issue. Wife and I love the idea, and it's great when it works, just frustrating when it doesn't. A great in blend of gas and EV vehicles!
Infrastructure is key. Hopefully it gets better
@@grandmaster1004 on a 700bar high pressure station the hydrogen is stored at minus 40F/C
700 bars? hell nah im not going a mile near that shit
“Guys, I have to stop at a gas station”

You could always run a lower pressure for safety with mire pit stops
This has to be the future ,the technology leaves electric charging for dust
This is the way to go.
It cost HOW MUCH???!!
Is it not possible to derive Hydrogen & Oxygen from water and use the same in combustion engine?
It takes me 4 seconds to recharge my Tesla, just the time to plug at home.

IS There a way to get hydrogen from air ? like near beach areas there are water particle in the air and if you process to refill your filling stations directly from air to water particle and then hydrogen from water?

So when are we simpletons are getting to use this. This EV charging nonsense is going nowhere fast.
1. It takes about 10 minutes to fill up an hydrogen vehicle.
2. Hydrogen never be a viable fuel source and you would have had to have failed elementary School science to believe in hydrogen vehicles will succeed.
What’s your credentials as far as education?
@@vinnythep4216 Way more than elementary school, what is your education since you don't understand basic science.
Hydrogen stations are 10 times more expensive, and you have to distribute liquid hydrogen with trucks all over the country, and how you produce hydrogen is another problem as you loose 60 percent of its energy until it runs your car, hydrogen is not a fuel it is a way to store energy😮 and it is not efficient so who will bet on hydrogen over BEV
I mean it's a pretty small country so it's not that difficult.
And it only cost $2700 dollars a tank 😂
Price?
Yes
I want an on board generator not a fucking tank that I still have to buy gas for.
Needs huge tanks for storage, explosive and difficult to transport.
Where are there hydrogen cats?? & pumps?
This is the future not the evs
No money for lithiun bmw?

As much as i hate ev's, i dont think h2 will work... Ice engines for win, forever!

3-5 minutes.
I imagine it’s like the Toyota Mirai. Not much different from gasoline. But the pumps can be very finicky

That’s over 10000 psi.
If only hydrogen is everywhare it will be cheaper and i will use it rather than ev
What happens when the car gets in an accident?
This is an eco Suv... eletric is not eco!
Making hydrogen isn’t exactly eco either.
So like Battery cars Hydrogen will be a huge problem in winter maybe worse due to the nozzle getting cold & maybe freezing while filling
Nozzle heaters are being explored. Which requires significantly less energy than heating an entire battery.
Got to be better than electric
Way more expensive. And you have to go to a filling station.
So inefficient

What the hydrogen for?
Fuel
everyone has to realize hydrogen is the way we are headed EV’s was a stepping stone here. I’ll break it down for you. I’m a truck driver so in diesel trucks we have a weight limit 80,000 pounds if I have an electric tractor trailer truck. that’s going to reduce how much I can bring to you the consumer because of the weight limits and rules and regulations of federal and state laws hydrogen is a great idea and multiple ways clean energy green energy equals more for you the consumer this is still has to be built to scale, but once it is, this will be taking over all gas stations truck stops refilling stations. Thanks for your time.
Hydrogen will NEVER WORK. You would have to not understand basic elementary school science to believe in hydrogen.
The Tesla electric truck is already way better than the best hydrogen truck oh wait, there aren't any hydrogen trucks....
Shell abandoned their plans to open 40 + hydrogen stations and announced they are closing all of their existing stations and that’s even with millions of dollars in subsidies. They said they will focus on commercial hydrogen and EV charging for passenger. There are fewer stations in the US than before. The cost of refueling for Mirai owners has only increased as more have been sold. There’s no signs of growth, only contraction, for passenger use of Hydrogen. EVs have passed the point of no return in China and Norway so investment in EV technology will continue to far exceed Hydrogen.
I guess you have not seen the Tesla semi?

Would rather have this than electric. I understand electric cars have a easy way to be implemented. But look at Chicago and CA . They all shut down. I think electric should be used for planes , trains , busses , and things like that, hydrogen should be the way to phase out gas.
"they all shut down"
Literally what are you talking about?
@@logitech4873 He’s talking about literally one day when a few chargers weren’t working at one location and blowing it way out of proportion. It’s so silly because at least you can charge at home. I think I supercharged 4 times last year and the rest were overnight while I was sleeping. If the H2 station runs out of hydrogen (and this is a real complaint from Mirai owners) you can’t go home and fill it up.
