I love my city, but the fact of the matter is, the market is way too small to spend the ways you suggest. That's why so many people outside of the city say move to Nashville. The Grizzles organization knows Memphis loves them, and they love the city back! That's why they are focused on building from the inside, through culture and player development. Signing high priced free agents just isn't feasible. All of the contracts have come from trades, resigns and the draft. If Vince or GG were to start, we'd have a contender level starting five built through the draft. I think the entire organization has done a great job, from top to bottom.
No one is asking them to spend carelessly on free agents. This team, and org for that matter has always lacked experience. There were vet free agents available for this team to acquire. Trades they could have pursued, but they choose to hang onto inconsistent rotational players. They could've solidified the rotation, especially for the playoffs. Kleiman stated last yr it was a mistake to double down on youth, then proceeded to triple down on it this off-season. Kleiman said they would go for it and view themselves as contenders, but didn't make any contending type moves. But every top team in the WC did by adding vets. With Kleiman so far, it's a bunch of talk without action. To win a title in the NBA, you have to have a mostly vet led rotation and go into the tax. That's been proven time and time again. Every team in the conference finals last yr had a vet heavy rotation, not a bunch of 2nd & 3rd year players.
You're right, the Grizzlies have done a great job building from within, and the focus on culture and player development is important. Though defensive schemes and knowing how to stay healthy are key! However, they haven't had the chance to get fully acclimated with a full and healthy roster. We need to give the Grizzlies a chance to play with the roster, see who fits best where, and how they can complement each other. A healthy team could really show the Grizzlies their true potential. #GrizzNation
Slight correction, I think you meant Daniel Gafford, not Holmes. Gafford and PJ were players I wanted the Grizz to trade for. Everything you've said makes logical sense, especially with the regional TV contract in flux. But it just feels like every off-season this franchise makes an excuse not to maximize the roster and put together the best talent possible to compete in the playoffs. Feels like they'd prefer to moneyball it than spend into the tax and strengthen the playoff rotation.
Give the local media affiliates a chance to bid for portions of the season to broadcast. Regardless of your provider you will most likely still get your local channels. Or NBA tv can broadcast without the blackout restrictions all these games wherever they are located. In dumb man's term, whatever makes watching these games easier to access!
I think the Grizzlies got it right with their recent moves, though I'm still unsure about how the new players will perform (except Edey). However, I trust the team's ability to make solid roster decisions. If they continue to excel in their defensive play, I believe I'll be pleased with the overall direction they've taken. #GrizzNation #NBA
Can you give your subscribers an official or unofficial roster of the Grizzlies as it currently stands as of the 1st week of August, 2024? Again , regarding the salary cap. If you're worried about the 1st apron (or whatever they call it) or even the second one, you do not evough money to own an NBA team. I keep hearing our owner is one of the richest in the league but he acts like he's poor.
2022 Forbes wealth estimate is 17.9 billion making him 3rd richest NBA owner ahead of the Nuggets. He didn't drop to 7 Billion from 17 in 2 years. Inaccurate article.
Luke Kennard‘s new one-year contract with the Grizzlies, originally reported to be worth $11MM, actually has a base salary of just $9.25MM, Hoops Rumors has learned. Kennard can also earn an additional $1,387,500 in unlikely incentives, so his deal can max out at $10,637,500. That disparity between the reported terms and the actual terms is important, given Memphis’ proximity to the luxury tax line. An $11MM cap hit would have put the Grizzlies over the luxury tax line by about $1MM, but because Kennard counts for just $9.25MM against the cap, the team’s salary is hovering right around $170MM, a little below the tax line ($170,814,000).

You have 7 vets on the team now! How many do you need! I'll take our 10 man rotation over any in the league right now!
@@na_k so tell me, what would you have done?
Also free agents don’t like the idea of having to live in Memphis

i think the lack of doing anything this offseason is why Bally Sports dropped Memphis.

Maybe it can happen in baseball or football, but a franchise can't moneyball its way to a deep playoff run, and especially not a title in the NBA.
“I’m not a person who understands business” - this is obvious

He’s worth 8.8b today (most of his net worth is in ubiquiti stock so it fluctuates a lot)
Ballys was AWFUL
