Many of the things that you've talked about, I've heard of through my Kung Fu Sifu. Its awesome to see this on youtube, its super rare. I have lots of respect for you, best of luck!
Excellent tip! I was having a little bit of trouble with that, ive been training savate for a year now and your videos are really helpful. Thanks Sensei Ando !
ive done this with my students because they have a really bad habit of flaring the elbow out and trying to hit that way. i first came across this in a chun do kwan camp. i love it when styles and teachers who have never met still have the same ideas. one of the best parts of martial arts. if you really want to see this look at european martial arts and compare them to japanese throwing arts and Filipino weapons fighting
Yes! I think most styles have more in common that most people think. That's why training with everyone is a smart strategy for success. Thanks for the comment!
ando sir...i noticed i actually punch with less effort but having more powe rand i saw my legs and core move with punches as i hit them...also i feel more relaxed and stronger.
Very good tip, I Drive my arms down also so I lock keep my elbows close to my body, I do not use a belt but they are pinned and my arms are just a power transfer mechanism. Observer Mike Tyson's hook to the body or Sugar Ray Lenard (when not show boating) has the most perfect punching technique of all boxers.
+Josh Peacock Ha! I'm from Buffalo, so eating wings has been part of my training regimen since I was born. Nothing like hot sauce in a baby bottle! Anyway, welcome to the club, sir! :)
your not old till your dead by the way i just found your videos today and the first video i watched i subscribed because you not only make perfect sense but you know that your not the best in the world and that everyone makes mistakes. also do you have any advice for being able to help control my strength because i dont want to hurt somebody who is sparring with me if i did i would probably cry myself to sleep eating a tub of ice cream
+t matson Ha! Thanks for the pep talk and the kind words. As for controlling strength, here's a simple drill you can do on a bag, pillow, or piece of string... whatever. Move around and punch as usual, but aim for a TOUCH, not a hit. Still throw full power punches, but focus on controlling your distance. To me, this is better than "pulling" punches or just throwing slow punches. The only trick after that is to control your emotions when sparring. If you get angry and lose control, then you might end up eating that tub of ice cream in jail! Happy punching!
Hello Ando, I've been discovering lately the use of shoulders, I tend to have them 60-100% while sparring or shadowboxing. Have you some tips, drills or basic principles about using my shoulders defensively and/or offensively? Peace and cheers !
What can I say? Use them, of course! The Philly Shell is definitely effective on defense... and opening your shoulder to extending your punching range is important, too. I definitely include shoulder rolls, forward and backward, into my workouts. Also check out this video. ua-cam.com/video/hke1_4J50TA/v-deo.html Keep fighting, sir!
Cool tip, like Johnny ties Miguel's hands and pushes him into the pool to learn to kick with his legs (Cobra Kai season 1).. That's how I taught my son to kick better while swimming.
I didn’t tie his hands. He was 8 then (2018). I held him at a depth in the pool where my feet could touch the floor but not his. Then I told him to try staying afloat without using his hands, and depend on his legs only. I assured him that if he sinks, I will at once pull him up by his armpits. Annnd, that worked! His legs started kicking great, and he learned the use of his legs good while swimming, and not depend entirely on his hands. I’ll be honest, the idea was Johnny’s!!
Some people say that speed is important, how speed is important although I only touching my opponent and when I touch my opponent then the technique will not be effective so how power and speed get combined together?
Hi Walter! I think I would focus less on power and more on getting a hold of the bad guy with one hand, so you can strike with the other. Instead of looking for a knock out punch, overwhelm them with repeated strikes. Just a thought! Keep punching!
I haven't joined for any martial arts class or something for few reasons but I wanna grow up strong , can you help me out with what to do and what to not before I take the 7 day challenge and other things
uhh... i luv pancakes, i'm not feeling any confortable smashing them before make a good use of them.. my gf sez they taste funny and i don't wanna tell her why.. excellent tip aldo!
+Karakam Dragoborn You're not stupid! I'm the one who's stupid for not demonstrating more clearly. Okay-- once you pin your arms, just practice as you normally would. Use your regular stances. Imagine throwing your normal punches. Without your arms, you can focus on how you're using the rest of your body to set up your punches.
+Ando Mierzwa aaah i get the point. that is good think for using body. maybe it my shoulder never burn as you say so i dont get the point first. You are realy helpful indead. You are good teacher realy thank you (you are awesome) soo you saying people practice punch without using body? is that even posible hmmm
+Karakam Dragoborn Sometimes if you want to be really fast, you may shoot your arm out by itself. But it lacks power. You can also burn out your shoulders practicing movements from forms incorrectly. If it's not a problem for you, then you're doing great! Keep up the good work!

Kung Fu really does get a bad rap. Hang in there, sir!
Damn! This is a great tip!!! I'll try it next time at my boxing gym! Thanks Sensei Ando!!!

wow love exercises like this. Great for self policing. Some of my favorites are the holding a ball under your chin, line drills for stance, etc.
Awesome drills, yes! Thanks for the comment!

I ate chicken wings. I felt like it was ironic considering the point of the exercise ;)

Some people say that speed is important, how speed is important although I only touching my opponent and when I touch my opponent then the technique will not be effective so how power and speed get combined together?
Speed is just one factor... power, timing, and targeting all matter, too. Experience helps you pick the right tool at the right time.
Ando you are great
Back atcha, Mohamad!
I'm your first subscriber!!! XD
+MuaHaBoy1 I'm going to have a crown made for you!
how do you throw a hard puch sitting down. since im In a wheelchair

And to you!
You say you're old, but if you colored your hair I guarantee you could pass off as a guy in his mid 30's
Nice of you to say, sir. I went gray early, so I dyed my hair for years. And always felt old!
