Things to Do in El Medano

El Médano or the "The sand dune" is a town in the municipality of Granadilla de Abona, on the island of Tenerife, one of the Canary Islands. It is located about 11 kilometers from the town of Granadilla, reaching an average altitude of 75 meters above sea level.
The town is divided into five centers: El Médano, Arenas del Mar, El Cabezo, El Topo and Ensenada Pelada. A place of strong winds, it has been the site for various windsurfing competitions and championships. Therefore, El Médano is considered one of the world's best windsurfing/kitesurfing locations.
There is a large town square in front of the main beach, which holds many local fiestas, especially during the summer months and an annual public firework display across the bay. Around that square are many bars and restaurants.
El Médano is close to south Tenerife airport, so there is some aircraft noise. The flight path is about 1km north of the beachfront, but the airport is not too busy. The town is a traditional family resort, it is safe and friendly with families enjoying the beach and restaurants. Spanish families are often out on weekends.
Right outside of El Médano, is Montaña Roja or the Red Mountain in English, a cone volcano. Rising 171 meters above the sea it does not only pose as an impressive sight when viewed from the surrounding area but it also gives a great view from the top.
Montaña Roja is located right outside of El Médano and you can either walk there directly from the town or you drive closer and park at one of the parking lots within the nature reserve.

Hi I’m staying in the hotel roughly how long did it take to walk.

It’s about a mile from the town, they do shuttle services but I find walking to town and getting busses better, in the day a bus comes close to the hotel, but only in certain hours

We're staying at this hotel in April, was thinking about hiring a car as it's a little out of the way isn't it...

Realistically I think that no car is needed there. There's busses and local taxis in case you want to go in another part of the island 😁🏝️

Yes, bus stops in town which is about 1km from hotel (in certain hours it does come to the bus stop near the hotel, but not all the time

🚨🚨🚨 El Medano was a quiet place years ago, not any more, now is THE NOISIEST PLACE IN THE CANARY ISLANDS AND IN SPAIN AND THE REST OF EUROPE 🤕. Minimum about 75-80 days+nights per year with live music in the center of town in front of the beach at incredible volume 🤯 until very late in the night 😵. If you are looking for a quiet place for relax, it is better to choose somewhere several kilometers away from the mega-noisy El Medano 🤢.

Thanks for the tips and of course for the positive feedback. Looks like El Medano is over-visited by tourists in summers, probably this is why is so noisy then..
