    Most noteworthy is how they could have just chosen the song "Dancing Queen", but instead realized the entire "Arrival" album is a masterpiece and one of the best albums ever created by anyone.

      Agreed. While DQ is an amazing song, ARRIVAL represents the moment when the ABBA sound solidified. It is pretty much pop perfection from start to finish - lyrics to DDD notwithstanding. 😉

The love and adoration we ALL hold in our hearts and minds for them are self evident throughout the world and even the USA has lately felt the waves of emotion and cannot resist the tsunami of ABBA.

As someone who was a young kid in 1975 when I got hooked on ABBA after hearing SOS, I only wish it would have happened at the time they were exploding throughout the rest of the world, 70s and 80s. Greetings BB! Coming from one of the American ABBA "slumberers" it is really a great honor to have the four members of the group ABBA in our Hall of Fames. They certainly tried to capture the American audience, but a lot of European music has missed American radio and concert halls. Considering so many of us who live here are of European descent, it is sort of sad that this music hasn't been embraced tighter.

      ABBA always did well in the United States, they just were not a phenomenon like elsewhere. They were the first country in the world to chart an ABBA song with people need love in 1972 went to number six on billboard with Waterloo and we don’t know or even care about Eurovision, ABBA has always been hampered by the fact that Americans appreciate artist who tour and you could see on stage and ABBA did not do any tours until 1979 which hampered a lot of their success

      @@michaelrochester48 Plus the US rock media's weren't always really that friendly and refered to Abba's music ironically as oompah sounds/Euro pap/muzak for elevators etc nothing serious really to their estimation.Mainly different culture to the Europeans Aussies and the rest.They also had their own continental music acts.As they finally said (Bennny must have said that i think) no matter if they didn't make it that big there they were mega stars and solid sellers almost in the rest of the world.

That album cover was the very first time I ever set eyes on what ABBA looked like. Arrival has a very lighthearted pop kind of sound which is the style I love ABBA the most with. I am reading some of the comments here, and I have to say as an American many of the international crowd do not understand at all about ABBA and the United States. The USA was the first place where an ABBA song even charted, in 1972 with “people need love.” “Waterloo” went top 10 in the United States in 1974 without Eurovision…most Americans don’t even know what Eurovision is and it got into the top 10 simply because it was a great song. They went top 20 with “i do I do I do I do,” “SOS”, “knowing me, knowing you”, “the name of the game”, and “does your mother know;” they went top five with “take a chance on me” and “the winner takes it all”. Top 30 with “Mama Mia” and “Chiquitita.”So they did quite well, but they would’ve been the phenomenon they were everywhere else if they just did a couple of tours here to get the audience excited. Americans appreciate touring bands and not touring hurt them in the United States.

      @@meropale It also sounds quite Euro-Schlager to me.But it does also have a retro '50s flavour.Still it was great that made it there in the 'modern" 1975 US Bilboard charts that was mainly a rock n soul oriented field.

      @christianoazzuro6711 Місяць тому +3

      Song was mainly inspired by the '50s European schlager music but yes also the saxophone sounds of '50s Bil Vaughn that fronted American orchestras.But It strongly strikes more European to my ears since i grew up here plus it's retro too.My uncle had plenty of Schlager old vynils he had bought in W.Germany where he travelled a lot and he played them for us.For Abba it seemed ,pretty unusual for a 'new" pop-glam rock music band to try this at the time.Abba payed a homage to that kind of influences and expiremented a lot they were pretty diverse and daring esp in the early '70s still fine in what they did.

    There are 3 0r 4 times when I can remember where I was when I first heard a song played. Dancing Queen was one of them. I was in a parking lo,t late for a very important business meeting. That song came on and made me even later. I could not get out of the car until it was over. Most Americans loved the song,, knew ABBA sang it, but that was it. Over the years we and certainly I didn't hear much from ABBA. Then the Pandemic came and I rediscovered them, along with one hundred plus other ABBA songs that I love. They are by far the greatest band I have ever heard and I almost missed out on the rest of their work.

    ** Single. Incorporated into 'Arrival' era and promo. ABBA's longest hold on #1 on a major chart -- 14 consecutive weeks in Australia. This song is also technically a cover of the original 'Fernando' Swedish version from 1975's multiple platinum 'Frida Ensam' (Frida Alone) album..A huge #1

As for Arrival, I also wonder how much this has to do with all things Mamma Mia, with six of the albums original songs being prominantly featured in the musical and both films. I'm very pleased to four ABBA members are still around to witness the entire world finally accepting what they created has been monumental to so many peoples lives all over the world. I have made a lengthy post where I said that Abba had actually several top 40 hits many of which made the top 20 and top 10. They had appreciation, but the lack of touring of the group in the United States because we value touring and seeing a group live than other countries do.

    America will never choose Abba as a winner. They didn’t at the Grammy’s and will not do so now.

      There’s factually no winner or loser here. ABBA is inducted onto the list like everyone else, and stays there.
