1992 Dodge Cummins Training presentation video

- I acquired an old Laserdisc video from the Chrysler Corp.
It's a salesman's presentation on the Dodge Cummins Turbo Diesel vs GM and Ford for the 1992 sales year. I hade to convert the laserdisc to digital download using a simple plug and play converter I bought on Ebay, and OBS software. (note there is some echoing and some I believe was on purpose as I watched the video thru my TV first. However this is History.) Please enjoy, and Thanks for watching.

Do whatever you can to keep the rust away, and spend whatever it tale to keep the paint and interior looking good. We are coming into an era where the "forever vehicles" must me cared for. I will be selling my 6.7 (with DPF) truck, and paying MORE for a similar condition 5.9 - perhaps with P7100.

This engine saved the truck division, as Chrysler was thinking about axing it due to low sales, and money needed to redesign them!

What a great video. Surprised they put this much effort into it knowing the new Ram was just on the horizon.
Some interesting takeaways: Average buyer made $39k. That's $85k today. Tough to buy a new diesel pickup on that salary today. Only 11,900 pounds of towing! There are half tons at that level now. 400lbs of torque...isn't the current Cummins Ram around 1100? How times change.
This is when the diesel wars began. Dodge opened up a can of whip ass.

The takeaway honest truth is that anyone who buys the Dodge truck with the Cummins, especially those wise enough to go with the manual transmission, were destined to be very happy for a very long time. Those older trucks with their lower horsepower are in fact as good or better for actual hard work (even if not winning drag races).
Have had my 93 since 94 going on 30 years now. wouldn't trade it for any 2-5th gen. But I also have a 2nd gen 12 valve (95) it has cracked head, put some blue devil in it, and it's been holding up for over a year now, I have a new head, just need to time to repair. Thanks for watching.

It seems like the older trucks were so much tougher, because after all, they were trucks not fancy cars with a bed and a 500lb payload

Usually these individuals marketing products like such tend to sprinkle lies on the truth and use fancy terms like "heavy duty" and such. This guy does that, but only with the transmission options
I have had my 93 model since 94 bought with 23 thousand miles on it. My Getrag lasted over 25 years with 2 clutch changes. It's when you start giving them more power than they can handle, is when they start breaking down, my 5th gear is whining, but still there, I lost my 4th synchro due to over loading my 25ft goose neck with about 10 tons hauling it up and down hills in UT, and WY. Not the truck or trans fault, but mine. I plan on rebuilding my trans hopefully this summer. Thanks for watching.
