    A suggestion for your shallow rez kit: mechanical timer + ultrasonic mister. Anout $20 for both. plug the mister into the timer, set it for 15 mins on/off, pop the mister into the reservoir. Fogponics.

    I'm in the UK and live in a very hard water area. I use a Britax filter jug for the hydroponics. So far I haven't had any build up of limescale in my hydroponic units. For our tea and coffee, we have an Optima Aurora water dispenser - does chilled water too. I'm growing tomatoes in one of my units. It's a variety called Tiny Tim and are only supposed to grow to a maximum height of 18 inches. They're exceeding that but I don't want to prune them back as all four plants have buds on them, some are flowering now. I only sowed them on the 6th March. I also have four dwarf French Beans in the same unit. They are doing really well too. I have Parsley, Dill and Basil in my other unit and just sowed a Chili plant at the weekend. It's germinated already. I will be adding Romaine lettuce and Rocket around May just in time for summer salads.
    As for the mould you're getting. Wiping mould only spreads the spores (same goes for black mould you find in the bathroom). Perhaps try dipping a cotton bud (Q Tip) in white vinegar, drip it on the mould, leave it for 30 minutes then wipe the mould, which should now be dead off. Vinegar kills mould and shouldn't harm the plant.

      My system came with circular light-blocking stickers with a hole in the middle that you place over the tiny seedling. These stickers are for preventing mold growth . Opaque tape would also work.

      @@sallycampbell7709 I use tinfoil (aluminum/aluminium depending on where you live) - I'm in the UK. Both my units are temporarily out of commission at the moment as shortly going to be doing up my kitchen and hoping to create more space for them. I have a tiny kitchen and can't put the units anywhere else as one of my cats will eat the plants and could end up seriously ill or worse. He even chews plastic plants 🙄

    I like you're videos. I live in the desert of Arizona. We have Well water and it is Alkaline. When I had a vehicle and drove I would get water from machine which had run reverse osmosis. I quit driving and wasn't about to buy gallons of water so I checked Amazon and you can purchase a unit which distills a gallon of water at a time. I us that to eat drink and water my plants. It is close to being rainwater. They can be purchased for less than $200.00 last I checked. Think about this if you use any city water well water type source you are adding you nutrients to minerals and possibly chemicals. Distilled is the way to go!

    I ordered some narrow grow lights that are 1.4 feet long that could be strapped to the top of one of these to provide light for a plant that gets too tall. I also got a round one that has timers built in. I don`t think the others I have do. Gotta check. I sing so I may use a microphone stand for extra lights. You can get microphone stands pretty cheap usually.

    I have six of these now. I bought several types of nutrient to try both dry and liquid and I`m gonna try experiments with making baskets from my medicine bottles to hold a different grow medium besides the sponges because I don`t want to pay 20 to 50 cents per radish. I`ve ordered a block of rockwool, a pool noodle, and Canadian peat moss to try. I`m also planning to try slightly crushing some clay beads to use in the medicine bottles but I have to figure out how to modify them first. With the lids on they don`t have the depth of the baskets so I have to flip the tops of the bottles over to make them work and they will need to be hot glued and holes made. I can do it with a soldering iron. Still deciding on exactly how to go about it so I plan to wait awhile as I learn the growing part with the sponges that came with them.

      Hello Steve,
      Yes you are going to have the fan/ water button and the veg button on at the same time. Also yes you can just set the unit and let it go, it’s best if you simulate daylight hours for the plants ( having the lights running during the day and into the evening, then they will turn off by themselves at night). Plants need a rest period and it’s best to give them that rest period in the night like normal.

    How many seeds do you put in a pod for germination?

    • @EverCrest
      @EverCrest  Рік тому +1

      Hi David I usually put 2 to 3 seeds in each pod to ensure that something germinates in each pod. After the seedlings are up and growing you are going to want to thin the seedlings out to one plant per pod. I make an exception for basil and lettuce and let multiple plants in each pod, that doesn’t seem to bother them.

      @@EverCrest I put aluminum foil over my basket ends after I put the seed in then I made a small hole in the foil. I don`t know how well it works yet because I just did it when I planted last night. It`s supposed to help prevent algae.

      Yes I’ve done that before too. It seem to work well.

      @@EverCrest I have one exactly like the Idoo with the short baskets but it has some weird different name. It`s the same though. The turnips I planted in it aren`t doing well and it lost a lot of water to evaporation in 10 days. The top isn`t sealed right and seems to be warped. Looks like I`ll have to use duct tape to seal it. I`m gonna try the trick you used and get longer baskets.

    Are you monitoring pH and EC? The EC for tomatoes and basil aren't compatible. They can't both grow in the same water. They have a different diet. Should need to change the water much less often. I saw in another video you mentioned algae growth. It cannot grow with the same pH tomatoes and basil need. If there's algae, then the pH is way too high for most plants.

    Could you help me on what light setting I should have on please. I received a GOLUMUP hydroponics growing system for my birthday. I was amazed how fast the lettuce grew, but I would like to grow some more seeds. The problem is the light setting. There are four settings... Sprout, Seeding, Flowering and Ripening. If I already have lettuce growing and then later add some seeds, what setting do I put the lights at? Also what setting would I need to have if I have lettuce and plants about to bloom at?
    P.S. I use filtered water in my system.
    Thanks

    Does the IDOO with the fan above help to prevent mold or not? Can someone help me, please?

    Does this have a drain hole (or the 12 pod system) so when changing the water you don’t have to disturb the plants?

    What to do when you have multiple plants growing out of or sponge? Can you separate them?

      Hi 👋, no unfortunately not. Just cut the plants you don’t want off at the surface of the sponge.

    Can anybody share names of particular tomatoes or other vegetables besides herbs they’ve tried and done well with? I am gifting an IDOO 10 system and would like to order some seeds to go with it. Thanks!

    when you harvest from these systems how long can you get produce from it before needing to reseed? I am new to gardening but would like to learn and I got an Idoo for Christmas

    • @EverCrest
      @EverCrest  2 роки тому +1

      It really all depends on what your growing, and how you harvest it. If your growing things like herbs and lettuce, you can just snip off what you need and keep that plant growing for a month or so at least.

      Are you referring to after you have something growing in the soil sponge?
      If that's what you are referring to yes you can remove the plant from the system and plant it into soil with the soil sponge.
