I'm a singer and have listened to Roberta Flack's original version many times over. The temptation could be to turn up the pace. Instead, by turning it down and bringing all his sensitivity and emotion into this song, George Michael has created a sublime version of it, which I've not heard bettered until now. It's subtle, exquisite, refined, controlled and yet brings all the emotions of the lyrics fully into play. This version, to me, tops them all.

Wow... Instantly reduced to an inconsolable puddle of tears and this is my first time hearing this! Sounds like he's singing to Anselmo. As soon as he sang the first 3 words, you are instantly gripped.... You just stop what you're doing and give your full attention listening. Pure silk on the ears and tugs at your heart strings... Ha ha, not quite. This was back when he was in Wham!. I absolutely idolised him and thought he was the coolest dude on the planet.
This is the perfect song to listen after having a complicated day.

I’m 100% straight, and believe that George was undisputedly the best vocalist to ever walk the planet. He mastered every genre of music, ballads, rock, pop, R & B, and he did it beautifully. What a loss for the music world!!!!
