Think I will change my name to Dave for next years comp. We all your subscribers appreciate your time and effort put in to the competition and channels quality uploads this year. Have a great Christmas Dave. Best part of the video was Steven’s humour at the end of the video!
Yes, I too have the set; you state the case very well. This set of coaches is superb, the observation coach (Fantail) is the icing on the set of coaches. The lighting is a game chainger. A first for Hornby with stay- alives in each coach. The piant and lining finish is some of the best I have ever seen, plus the magnetic couplings. I run LNER in this era so for me it is simply amazing to have this unique set of coaches running on the layout. I am aware the cost seems high, BUT most new coaches cost around the same these days, be it pullmans teak finish or Evan standard Blood & Custard, regardless of the manufacturer. Hornby has taken a lot of harsh bad publicity lately So Well Done *HORNBY *
Finally, after all these years , I subscribed today. Thank you for another year of videos from Dean Park. Happy Christmas from Bill and Janet from California.
Hi Bill. Thank you so much for joining my channel. It’s great to hear from you. I hope you and Janet enjoy watching my videos and look forward to any feedback you have. Have a great Christmas. 🎄 Dave
Such a lovely looking set (Coronation Set) for sure. If I could I would be having a full set. Hopefully someone will be showing them off at some events Next year near me, so want to see in person
The Class 20 just fits right in, short mucky loco, short mucky train. As for those Coronation carriages, if I had the layout to fit the whole lot and were a richer man, I'd love to see a set running up close. Merry Christmas everyone! The ending got me good by the way!
Wow! Can’t believe I’ve just won the 37 😃 had to rewind it to make sure I wasn’t imagining it 😊 thank you so much David for putting together another fantastic competition and to all the kind suppliers of the prizes, well done to all the winners and wishing you a very merry Christmas and a very happy new year, cheers Darrell 😃👍
Yes you won!!! Haha. As soon as it came out of the wheel i knew who you were. You’ve followed me for years so I’m so glad you’ve been rewarded for enduring my videos over the years 😂 I’ll email you and get your address. I’ll test the loco and get it off to you after the Christmas rush is over! Cheers. Dave
Hi David! Personally the West hill Wagon Works voucher is the one I wanted to win the most so thank you for running the competition 😊 Loved the entire video too ❤
😂 how many Davids entered? I want to know now, that was funny watching, and the "Im going home" I can't believe I won and was the First name out! Congratulations to everyone
Thanks for sharing. Congratulations to all the winners. Merry Xmas to you and yours. Hope the present pile is a high one. See you in the new year. Stay safe.
i got told about this in my live stream this evening, haha, really made my evening i never win anything. massive thanks and congrats to everyone that is a winner
Wishing you and yours a very Merry Christmas and all best wishes for 2025 🎄🎅☃️🎉🥂🍾 Many thanks to you Dave for all the time, effort and hard work you put into producing such quality videos for your channel. 👏
I think the a4 is an exquisite model, especially in Dublo die cast form. The only thing missing from the current a4 model is a front coupler to allow the loco to haul tender first, but being a streamline express passenger loco I suppose it would rarely do that.
the LNER Coronation is not my era or primary scale (I'm an N-gauge modeller), however they do look good. However can stay alives be used on DC without issue?
That LNER set is exceptional. Too expensive for me, unfortunately, but stunning nevertheless. The 20 looks amazing. I struggle to add pipes to the front of Bachmann locos when ploughs are fitted. How did you manage it? Wishing you a Merry Christmas & a Happy New Year.
Hi, Some of the new Bachmann locos are a lot easier. On the 20 the ploughs aren’t mounted to the bogies so don’t swing when the train going around a curve. Sadly the class 37 and 47 still have bogies mounted ploughs and therefore you can’t fit the pipes and plough, it’s either one thing or the other. Which is rubbish!
@DeanPark Yes it is, because the cables add so much to the realism. Oddly, I recently acquired an early (8 pin) Bachmann 37, which had the 3-part plough, and it was possible to add the right hand jumper cable. Oh well....
That’s a brilliant weathering job. I’ll be checking out TRSW for my Accurascale 31s, I think, and maybe a few more! Could I ask what camera you use for your filming, Dave? I have to get in close between my loft beams and I struggle with focus 😕 Cheers Rich
@@WaltononTrentthe cameras on phones these days are so good you don’t need anything fancy. Plus, why spend £100’s on a camera when you can pens that money on trains instead lol😂 Plus the camera/phone is small and allows you got get close in.
Didn’t expect to see the LNER Coronation rake on your layout Dave, I know you do model other eras from time to time but honestly I didn’t expect the to see the LNER Coronation, it was great to see it though, I have the full set myself and currently they are the best coaches hornby have made, I mainly use mine with my model of A4 Dominion of Canada which my one is an old Bachmann one, other locos I have used are my rebuilt W1 and obviously Mallard with a dynamometer car, the observation car is very nice piece, very pleased I got one as I only placed my order for one a couple of weeks before they arrived, one thing that has got me thinking though is why is it called a beaver tail, if it’s just because it looks like a beavers tail I’m afraid I don’t see it, if you do know please tell me because I can’t find any reason online, I need to look at some class 20s for my fleet at some point, preferably I would like two so I can run them back to back like they were pretty much always ran from pictures I have seen of them great update overall, have a very merry Christmas and if you don’t get a video out before the new year have a great new year as well.
The model railway industry is REALLY taking advantage of the Modern Price Hiking trend aren't they? £140 for just TWO of the coaches!! That's £560 for the train!!! And that doesn't include a Loco either. I can buy a complete Eight Coach Train of the American Big boy passenger set from Kato (A top brand in N gauge USA Railroad rolling stock) for £180, And the Big Boy loco for £330. That's a total of £510. Hornby are really pushing it!
Bachmann change £70+ for a coach with no lights, accurascale are £70 for one with lights. It’s not Hornby pushing it, it’s market prices and matching that of the competitors.
Nice review on-the hornby coaches .but sorry Dave you may think it’s good value, but at 140 pound for two coaches.i think is a bit excessive.regardless of it been new tooling..personally I would sooner buy my coaches from accurascale .better quality and cheaper.but that’s just my opinion.
They aren’t cheaper from Accurascale! They are around £70 with wand controllable lighting! Bachmann mk2F is over £70 for one with no lights. Hornby are no more expensive than accurascale. Better quality?, Have you actually held these Hornby coronation coaches in your hand and looked closely at them? Even guys at accurascale are impressed. Don’t do what so many people now do, which is to write Hornby off just because they aren’t accurascale. As this coach is immaculately presented and one of thee best coaches ever released, bar none. Honestly, if you actually get the chance, look at these coaches. The raised lettering is separately fitted on the sides. It’s not printed.
@@DeanParknothing to do with trains running. On your title image it’s very clear. Track 3 (counting from the left) has a LH point. Where the diverging route joins the connecting piece of track to track 2, there’s a definite kink to the left before the connecting piece bends right to join track 2. Because of the distance between tracks 2 and 3, you needed a bigger distance top to bottom of picture to make the crossover smooth.

The Coronation coaches - which look excellent - incline me to think Hornby could do with updating/improving their A4.
