    Just a word of caution, please be careful you do not pick up arsenic on the south coast of uk. Just google the beach and it will tell you tge geology of the area.

      Thank you Tim for letting me know. I googled it and was definitely a bit scared by that info. It seems that the area I was in, is not affected. This is an important reminder though to be cautious and wear a dust mask when working with earth pigments.

    Hi , I love how you use nature to create even more beautiful art. I do have a question though..Do you mix your pigments with any medium?? Also, how are you”sealing” the finished piece? Thank you. I just subscribed to your wonderful channel..

    • @nicoleschyns

      Thank you Christine for your compliments and subscribing 🙏🏼❤️! I mix my pigments with a bit of water and a binder/medium. That is necessary to make the pigments stick to the painting surface. I decided not to seal my paintings with a varnish. Mineral (earth) pigments are light fast and I try to make my paintings as natural as possible.

      @@nicoleschyns thank you, I thought I would have to do that also. I guess I didn’t realize they were light fast. I live in North Carolina USA.

    Hi! Have you tried to use "regular" brown soil? Would this work?:)

    • @suhelavaneerten419
      @suhelavaneerten419 Рік тому

      Hi Henriette, yes that can work. Soil is made of a lot of things, so also a lot of things that is less usefull in paint. I tried to find a more clay-like bit from a dirtroad an also from some agricultural land. I am not sure how clay differs from earth, but it is quite different. I think the kind of soft rocks in this video are a kind of dried clay? And a lump of dried soil would usually not be usefull to colour with? Like Nicole showed with rubing it on a rock i mean.
      I mixed it very well with a lot of water, let the dirt settle and then poured the water through a fine sieve to get the dirt out. Then poured it through a coffeefilter to get the water out and let the filter dry. Then scraped the pigment out of the filter. I made watercolorpaint with it and it was a pretty palish brown

    Hi Nicole, Have you ever located any blue pigment or green? Its so hard here in the US especially in the southeast where Iive.I’m actually thinking of ordering online hopefully from a reputable company. Any input will be greatly appreciated.

      Hi Christine, blue pigment is indeed very rare and hard to find yourself. Because it is so rare, it is also quite expensive to buy. Green pigment is much more common. I love green umber for example 😊.
