@@57Weaver I always have the sound off and read the subtitles. That way it doesn’t suck. The video and the explanation it gives is first rate, and taught me a lot.
I think this is a great video, but there are some things that some weavers (different kind of weaving?) don’t do. For instance, Rio Grande weavers don’t “comb” the warp; we shake it in order not to weaken our warp. But then, we weave weft face with a very very tight warp on walking looms. And it is such a pain when a warp string breaks. Another difference is that, when I have to wind the warp by myself, I weave sticks or loose slats from blinds into that back warp area (tabby-wise) to ensure an evenly tensioned wind-on. But maybe on such a small loom that doesn’t matter as much. I would love to hear other thoughts on these methods. Overall, though, this will be my go-to video for dressing my table loom (which I just got and haven’t been able to use because I broke my arm).
Oh my goodness. I think this is the best tutorial I have seen yet for setting up warping and weaving a 4-harness. Just the information I was looking for. Thank you for your clear instructions.

Wonderful video! I was gifted a 4 shuttle loom 30 years ago and have decided it is time to learn how to use it. I’m sure I will be watching this over and over again as I get set up and learn.
Loved this video, and appreciate your teaching style! Pleasant voice, clear, concise, good explanations, and highlighted why the cross is so essential. I appreciate your taking the time to create this video, and sharing your skills!
Thank you for a nice clear explanation on warping. I am waiting for my table loom to be delivered and can’t wait to get started. The yarn you used looks lovely (must watch the beginning again to find out which one!)

Thank you, I finally found a comprehensive video. I have been weaving for about 4 years, rarely dress/warp the loom and this video is a great review as a refresher for starting my next piece with no need for other videos. It helps that Ms Clark teaches pretty much the method I learned, front to back starting with threading into the reed/dents and onto the heddles, except I use the lead sticks to maintain my cross, don't trust my hands... The ties in back and front are great, just the way I learned, again for myself, a great reminder--great video.
I have been struggling for several days trying to find instructions for front to back threading - actually the entire dressing the loom process. Thank goodness I found your series! I haven't done any weaving for many years and I never was confident with dressing the loom. Now I'm back and with your videos I feel I shall succeed and enjoy weaving! Many thanks!

Your generous and caring spirit is so apparent in this video. Thank you, so much, from the bottom of my heart!
This is a great and easy to follow/understand video which is PERFECT for the beginning weaver! So many times, the instructor assumes the viewer has some knowledge and so does not go through important steps or the steps are hard to follow. You have done an AWESOME job in this step by step video. There are not many videos of front to back warping of a table loom. Thank you so much!
Thank you! Watching several videos on the same subject is always valuable because everyone has some subtle point that nobody else mentioned. I particularly liked your attention to the weavers' angle, winding the stick shuttle, and knots to use to tie warp ends to the back and front bars.
BIG thank you Sandraclark! This video has opened my eyes to finally understand this my 4harness loom. I was totally overwhelmed and stuck. I’m going to warp my loom this weekend using this video as my guide! Thank you so much:-)
Thank you! You've solved the mystery I've been trying to figure out, IE: How the heck to get my yarn on my loom! Most videos are done by folks that seem to assume the viewer knows the middle steps and so they skip over them. Those are the steps I've been trying to figure out! Thank you for this video.
Thank you. I enjoyed watching this, although your hand his things at times. Just wondering if you also have instruction on threading from back to front on a table loom.
THANK YOU!! Very nicely explained. I've had a second hand 15" Dorothy for 2 years and got bogged down, never warping it. You have ENCOURAGED me greatly! 😆 Other videos that people have done, were not nearly so clear for a very first timer.
Thank you so much for an expertly produced guide for beginners. I am a total weaving newbie so this was very useful, with just enough detail to not make me feel overwhelmed.
You are so amazing for this tutorial! Thank you!!! I followed along with each step as I set up my X Frame Gilmore Loom 48" weaving width, so , so, so HELPFUL!!!! Thank you!!
Exceptionally clear and helpful instructions. You justify and explain your every step, and include useful tips for beginners like me. Thank you so much. You are an excellent teacher.
Thank you for making a video with such detailed instructions. Many years ago I wove on a Jack floor loom but I wound the warp onto it using a sectional warping beam. I have since downgraded to a table loom with a warping board and it has scared the bejabbers out of me as to how to wind the warp and then attach it to the loom. I think you have just given me the confidence to try it! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for sharing this video with your fans. I have a loom identical to your and it was helpful for to to follow how to dress a table loom. Thank you again.
Hi Sandra! I just found this video and wanted to thank you for a very clear explanation of how to get the warp from the warping board onto the loom. I have done a few warp chains after watching your video on the use of the warping board last year. I had a lot of angst when dressing my RHL as the individual warp threads in the chain always appeared to tangle behind the reed. After watching this video I finally realized that it is not a real problem at all if you cut the warp chain at both ends and then finger comb as you roll the warp onto the back beam. After spending some time with my RHL I am now the proud owner of a "new to me" LeClerc 4-shaft Medico Table Loom with a 6-treadle stand. The Medico is very close to your Dorothy but the levers are on the front of the castle instead of the side. Over the past 5 months I have cleaned and restored the loom and stand. Not quite ready for weaving as I need to add the canvas aprons and maybe need to replace the tie-ups. One thing I am hoping you can explain and that is how to tie my warp onto the metal rods when they are first inserted into the canvas aprons. I notice that you are not using them in your video. Also, if you are planning additional videos (and I hope you will do so) I would appreciate one on lashing on instead of tying on using your LeClerc Dorothy. Thanks!!
Thank you so much! I am very excited for your "new" loom. I actually just finished taking video on refurbishing a loom. Sadly it is sitting in limbo since my computer does not have enough available drive space to hold and process it🙄 Working on the best way to resolve this. As soon as I figure that out I'd be happy to do a lashing video. Thanks for the request!
I just watched your video. I love the dedication to your dad. I hope he is now an avid weaver! I wish I had someone to teach me how to use my loom. It is a big floor 2 treadle loom. I Finally got it set up. And don’t have a clue what to do with it.
I just wanted to say I enjoyed your video so much! It is the first video to explain why you put the cross in the warp. I loved the detail you went into when explaining what you were doing! Best video for weaving I have watched yet.
Excellent video!!! Very detailed in your explanations and informative. As a New weaver this is greatly appreciated. I will be getting a well loved loom in a couple of days so this will help a ton. Thank you. 😃
Excellent! Thank you for the great explaination and demonstration. I am a new weaver, I needed the step by step and clear, concise instructions. I will have to watch this a couple more times while working on my loom.
Oh my. A friend gave me a loom he built with this design. I've never done any weaving, but had watched videos of warping ridgid heddle looms. This looks way more difficult! I'm very intimidated by all that goes into warping this. Really appreciate your time putting this together. I didn't even know what to search for with this type of loom.
What a blessing to have a hand crafted loom ❤️. Threading can be intimidating at first, but just take baby steps and you'll find it is not difficult. Start with a narrow warp. My first was only 2 inches wide, just 24 threads. Feel free to reach out if you have questions😊
@@sandraclarkfineart6903 sound advice! Everyone emphasizes the need to keep crossover intact, but I have not been able to see what the purpose of the crossover is, why it is needed. Maybe it will be apparent when I try to warp.
Thanks so much - I just got an older Leclerc loom and you've explained the warping process so well I feel ready to give it a go. Excellent narrative and camera angles make it very clear
Thank you so so so much for this video!!!!! So helpful and informative! I am a beginner and had absolutely no idea how to work my loom, and now I know so much and feel very confident. Thanks!!
Great video! Nice and clear and so helpful to this brand new weaver! I always find music in the background of tutorials really distracting, but that's a minor nitpick, for sure. Thank you for sharing your expertise!
Great video! Definitely agree with the positive comments. You are a an excellent online teacher. I realize there is a lot of time involoved in producing the videos, but I do hope you consider doing other weaving videos.
This is the best video! I am picking up a vintage Nilus Leclerc 4 harness loom tomorrow and there is no manual with it. I have used a rigid heddle loom but NEVER this type. Your video made me confident I will master this new venture! I also know I will be referring to your video many times to help me warp the loom. Thank you again so much. It was so well done. And yes you should do videos on Craftsy.
Thank you for your video. I have picked up a loom that looks like yours from a flea market with a project still on it. It was kept in a shed and was not well stored. Some of the heddles are rusted but intact. The loom was dirty and the heddle lifts are stiff like they where stuck with grime. I bought it and tried to clean it up the best i could. From what i understand it was used in some weaving classes given at Sundance in Utah. I was excited to finally see what my loom could do with this video and how to raise the heddles they are still very stiff but they are movable. I threw the old project away as it was filthy and buggy and it didn't look like an even weave. I was afraid to try another project because i didn't know how to start but your video helped. I hope i can start one soon. I cant find a brand name for the loom but it still has a partial sticker on it. So thanks again for your video. Jackie
Since I am an architect by trade, the building paper seems to be a product that might leave a residue on the warp. I am sure your process doesn't do that, but I want to caution everyone - be careful about the choice of paper, because experience tells me that the asphalt might bleed onto the warp threads under certain conditions. Love the video, because you have shown the reasons some of the mistakes I am learning to work thru happen. Now I am off to warp through the front instead of the back. It looks like it is much easier!
Thanks for your comment. I agree on the tar paper. I only use that for very short projects that won't remain on the loom long for the very reason you site. On a floor loom I learned using corrugated cardboard. However that takes so much space that could be used for warp. On a table loom there just isn't that much real estate for your wound up warp. Now my go-to is a firm buckram fabric. But it is difficult to find. If you have any other suggestions, I'm all ears. I'm always looking for ways to improve processes!
Excellent! Thank you so much. I just got a new to me 4 shaft Kessenich table loom and this video will be very helpful as I get going. It was made in the '60's and needs a little care. But I'm using fine steel wool and bees wax and the red oak is gleaming. Can't wait to put the warp on.
Sandra, thanks for the great video! Nice and slow so I didn't have to back up every few seconds. I weave mostly back to front so this was a great refresher for me. Keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for this video. I have enjoyed looking at your videos again. I have moved and my Harrisville Floor Loom is still in storage. How I miss working on it. I think that you are on the right track in bringing education to the masses as you travel. I would like to see a video where there are different colours of warp thread. Another project perhaps. I appreciate the time you put into your videos. I live in a remote area on a homestead and do not have easy access to teachers. So again thank you. Sincerely, Paula
When winding weft onto the stick shuttle, keeping all the yarn on one side leaves a smooth side that won’t stick on the warp as you slide it through the shed. It also fits better through the triangular shaped shed if you angle the empty side to the bottom and toward you and the full side up and away from you. This also helps to avoid catching warp threads with the tip of the shuttle because the tips curve away from the threads of the shed. This doesn’t decrease the amount of yarn you can get on the shuttle.
❤ I am so happy to have stumbled upon this video. You’ve explained better than any weaving to that I’ve watched, even better than some of the famous ones in my paid online courses! I like how you sideways patted your warp threads in front of reed to check for tension issues. I also like the way you use larks head knots when you tie your warp onto the back beam. In addition, I’ve been longing for someone to address the ways your weaving shows you that you advanced your warp threads too far and the fell-line became too close to the front beam. Thank you over and over! I’d like to hear more tips like those. Please keep producing videos.😊 There’s just thing I think could have been improved upon is that I found the music in the background too distracting. I have a hearing disability. I even wear hearing aids. Even with them, I could not hear well. I found your warping board video much easier to follow. God bless
Thank you so much for your kind words! Totally get it on the music thing. I am hoping to find a way to edit that out without having to redo the entire video. I didn't even register that there was music playing in the background in the area I was filming. Live and learn😊

The BEST ever video! But I am hearing impaired. The music in the background made it hard for me to understand what you are saying, 2nd option is to caption your speaking voice. Thank you.
You are the BEST teacher! Slow and articulate, unlike so many teaching videos. Other than the very distracting music (which I see you are removing), I wonder if this video assumes some prior knowledge or if you have another video that explains some of the procedures like 4-3-2-1 (why?) and why did you start with the left side yarn (you said right but it looked left to me!) and not the right side. There are some explanations that I think assume we know something! Not always -- LOL. Anyway, thank you for this fabulous warping video. I hope I happen upon more from you.

Exceptionally clear and helpful instructions. You justify and explain your every step, and include useful tips for beginners like me. Thank you so much. You are an excellent teacher.
I'm so glad you found it helpful. Thank you🙏
Thank you so much for this. Wonderfully clear and well paced for us beginners.
I am so glad! Good luck to you😊
Thank you so much for sharing this video with your fans. I have a loom identical to your and it was helpful for to to follow how to dress a table loom. Thank you again.
Thank you! If I watch this a couple more times, I will have the courage to try it. Great instructions and explanations.
You got this! Remember, you can't break anything by trying 😊
I used this video to guide me as I warped my new Ashford table loom for the first time! Thanks to you it was stress free. Great instruction tool!
I just watched your video. I love the dedication to your dad. I hope he is now an avid weaver! I wish I had someone to teach me how to use my loom. It is a big floor 2 treadle loom. I Finally got it set up. And don’t have a clue what to do with it.
Love your lark’s head knot onto the back beam. Clever, thanks for the video
I just wanted to say I enjoyed your video so much! It is the first video to explain why you put the cross in the warp. I loved the detail you went into when explaining what you were doing! Best video for weaving I have watched yet.
Thank you so much. This was the best video I could find with clear explanation.
I'm so glad you found it helpful! Good luck😊
I’m very new to weaving. It has been hard to find this depth of instruction and This is an excellent tutorial! Thank you for sharing your talent.
I'm so glad you found it helpful. Wishing you loads of fun with your weaving😊
Hello , how are you doing today ?
Could not have managed without this video. Concise. Easy to understand.
Thanks Sandra and Marlene, so glad that I found your clear demonstration. I never would have understood from my book.
Thank you so much. Very informative. Was just gifted a loom and so excited, much to learn before I start.
Thank You for taking the time to make this video. I found it extremely helpful. 💜
I agree. The video is very good, but the background music is distracting.
Excellent video! I'm just assembling my new four-harness loom and this video helped it all to make sense. Thank you.
this lesson was wonderful, made so much sense for me a total beginner
These instructions were fantastic. Thank you.
Thank you.
.
Very well done. Thanks for the knotting tips and the shuttle wrapping tip.
Glad to be helpful😁
Great video! Definitely agree with the positive comments. You are a an excellent online teacher. I realize there is a lot of time involoved in producing the videos, but I do hope you consider doing other weaving videos.
Fantastic video, I learned so much! You have a terrific, calm teaching style. Many Thanks!
Jackie
You are an excellent teacher!
You are an amazing teacher, thank you
Thank you so much🙏
Hello there ! how are you doing today ?
Thank you so much for this video. I have enjoyed looking at your videos again. I have moved and my Harrisville Floor Loom is still in storage. How I miss working on it. I think that you are on the right track in bringing education to the masses as you travel. I would like to see a video where there are different colours of warp thread. Another project perhaps. I appreciate the time you put into your videos. I live in a remote area on a homestead and do not have easy access to teachers. So again thank you. Sincerely, Paula
great video this has helped me.. i'll be able to get my floor loom dressed now.. thanks!
just finished my blanket today.. on to another project
Hello, how are you doing today ?
Thank you for this video ! Is exactly what I was looking for and you are showing it perfectly !
Thank you. This is the best tutorial I've seen !!. I'm a beginner and you showed me everything I needed, in a very understandable format. And...your nail varnish helped me focus, how weird is that ☺
Thank you! This was super helpful! You're a wonderful teacher.
I will stick with you!!! :D I can actually understand what you are teaching, thank you!!!! as I just inherited my mom in-laws floor loom, I know nothing but, I do have 4 screens like yours
Very helpful video. I purchased the same loom and it came disassembled, and the old manuals available online are of little help. So In addition to your excellent warping instructions, I am studying your loom to figure out how the pawl and dogs work.
That's awesome! Let me know if you need any close up photos.
@@sandraclarkfineart6903 Thank you. Still waiting on an order for some missing loom pieces. May need to take you up on your offer. Also pleased to see you live in the same part of the world. Love the snow we got.
@@cemam1950 the snow was nice. Are you in the metro area? If you're close to me is be happy to help you put it together. Shoot me an email at info@sandraclarkfineart.com.
Thank you, this is very clear instructions, I have sent the link to my brother who has just bought a loom after seeing mine, he is a complete beginner, I am now looking for a video on how to make a warp to send to him. We live 300 miles apart, so I can't just pop round.
Thanks so much! I just bought this identical loom. Your video has been very helpful
I really enjoyed your video and learned a lot! Thank you.
This was such a great video, thank you so much! I’m a rigid heddle loom weaver and want to try using a table loom, but I’m disabled and other videos I’ve seen on UA-cam have made it look like my arms wouldn’t cope with dressing the loom, but your video of dressing it from front to back makes it look much more do-able for me. I’ve subscribed and am looking forward to watching your other videos 😊
Jacky, I'm so excited that this helped! I'm not sure what your particular disability is, but if you run into any problems please reach out. Problem solving is my jam and there is always a way😁
@@sandraclarkfineart6903 thank you so much, that is so kind of you 😊🌸
Wow that is a nice tutorial Thanks a lot Sandra
Thank you!!
This was a wonderful demonstration! Thank you
You are very welcome. Thank you for your lovely comment😁
Thank you so much for this video I’m being gifted my first loom today and I’m so excited. Your video had given me the confidence to get started right away ❤️
Sandra Clark thank you so much! I’ve literally got it in the back of my trailer on the way home with no idea how I’m going to get it into the house so it could be interesting!!! I’m looking forward to your next video looks like it’s going to be very helpful to me.
Sandra Clark thank you so much !!! I will do that . I think you just saved my ass
Great video this really helped! i've watched alot of them but this is what i needed!
Great video!! New way to tie to front rod
Best dresiing video I have seen. Thanks.
That's an awesome video opener!
it is nice to watch how the other side of the world do weaving loom. i do weaving long time ago. i start weaving again for almost 4 mos. now.
This is an awesome instruction. Thank you.
Thank you!
The roadblock seems to be removed! Darn good instruction, which I played at 3/4 speed - I seem to listen or hear slowly. Thanks for your good work, AND for using the loom that is in front of me!
Oh, I am so happy it helped you! May you weave wonderful things. And feel free to reach out if you have a question.
Briliant tutorial, thank you so much!
PS: You should do a table loom class on Craftsy!
is his the same for a floor loom , great instructions thank you viky
thank you very much this tutorial is very informative thank you again 😍
