- Part of the Shear Zone Channel. Turbidite sandstones commonly have gutter and flute casts on their bases that betray the directions of the flows that deposited them. But to use this information we need to correct measurements for any tectonic tilting that the beds may have experienced. And this correction is readily completed on a stereonet. Follow along to see how "untilting" can be performed. In a second video, the methods are developed to include the corrections needed for beds in plunging folds.
Simple, easy and best explaination of removing tilting and paleo-flow analysis. Thank you Prof. Rob Butler
Thanks - glad you found it useful...
It's a really easy to understand video. Thanks 👌🏻
thanks - glad the film was useful - there are others on stereonets etc on the Shear Zone Channel
Wonderful explanation Professor Bob Butler. I very thank you 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Amazing.
so so powerful, and absolutely amazing stuff... Loving it
Dear Rob butler, hi, thank you for sharing very nice and full of resources knowledge, just one request, use of 🎤 will help to improve volume.
yay, gonna watch it soon 😍😍😍😍
Great, 062-72 (SE) should means Strike-Dip-(Dip direction).
Yes indeed ... see basic video on measuring/recording a bedding reading in the geological field techniques playlist.
hi rob i need help, you showed here how to correct paleocurrent with a value under 180, but what if i have a value of 230, do i just count up my bedding plane 180, then back down by 50? hope that makes sense, cheers.
Hi - not quite sure what you're asking... I find it useful to make a physical model - just with a finger and the palm of your hand...
Would you show us how to Know if we have transpressive ou trastensive mouvement on stéréonet?
I wouldn't use a stereonet in the first instance - I'd look at the map pattern and the relationship between faults/folds and any major strike-slip fault zone The question you ask is fairly qualitative... and in the first instance I'd go for a qualitative answer - stereonet plotting of kinematics etc would come later, to add precision to the answer....
