This is the most beautiful hi-lo ive ever heard from a whelen! I wish there were more of these whelens around that have hi-lo sounding just like this one. I really miss this whelen...
It has been almost 12 years since this was uploaded and this siren was removed. I love the Hi-Low tone on this particular Whelen, and I really think they should offer this version of the Hi-Low tone again for their current sirens. That would be amazing.
@@MasenMonster Yeah. But sadly Whelen discontinued the 864. The hi lo on the new 2030 sounds very different. I don't mind it, but it's not as good as this version is.
This is actually an 8/10 port high low and it sounds nice, but the newer ones are slowed down for a reason. Because of reverberation, it can be hard to tell from a far distance that these are doing high low cause they alternate too fast.
Hey Mike this is not a 2740. Its actually a 2750. Look at how many of the driver cells it has. It has 5 so that means its a 2750. Not a 2740. Not trying to be offensive just correcting. I am going to miss this good old siren after it gets taken down.
@hotdogstockimage Those models of Whelens came out right around that time, and I've lived in Dearborn my whole life and the famous "Dearborn Whoop" tone started being heard in the late 80s. 1988 to 89 is correct.
I'll never understand why they went ahead and replaced them instead of installing UltraVoice panels on their sirens. They could have continued to use whoop and hilo and still would have had the 360 coverage from these omni sirens. If they needed more coverage they could have just added some Modulators or Eclipse 8s at that point. Better yet they could have gone with Whelen and added some 2900s in and upgrade the existing sirens and replace blown drivers; WPS-2760s are just as good as 2906s with new drivers and a new panel... They ended up adding Mod IIs into their system earlier...
What pisses me off is the fact that this lovely sounding siren was replaced with an FS 2001 (the siren that I hate because of its extremely loud high pitched eardrum killing sound)
He was actually meaning in the description that on Dec 31st, 2007, this siren including all the others in Dearborn were sounding off at 8PM to warn people that a snow emergency is in effect. This video was taken January 1st, 2008 at 8AM which of course is gonna have some bit of lighting outside. When Dearborn uses their sirens to sound off for snow emergencies, they usually sound it off more then once.
is it painted white? if so, interesting. i forgot to favorite this b4 and i'm glad i found it. the siren freaks me out with the look of the place. and for some reason i like that.
Dearborn activates thier warning sirens in a Hi Lo tone when 3+ inches of snow is about to or has fallen. It tells people to get thier cars off the streets so the snow blows can do thier jobs properly. If not, you get ticketed or towed.
It was. I lived in Dearborn my whole life. A lot of snow storms take place late at night. Remember hearing them going off while I was in bed many times. Dearborn had quite a lot of them too. So all of them doing hi lo all around you sounded like an alien invasion. I miss it terribly.
what if that's the only place they can put there cars? well, i guess it's better than having them completely snowed in. i hate that. but neighborhood streets are always the last to get plowed here, so.
It's not so much about getting snowed in. Its about moving your car so the plows can do thier jobs properly. And if you have no other place to park then your SOL.
This IS a old siren, Most whelens dont sound like this This thing is completely analog, There are very little of these things around. but their tone's sound way better than todays, Today's hi lo is, Well... Terrible!

They still do technically. The hi lo on the ESC-864 controller sounds a lot like this. I’m pretty sure that it is actually using the same controller.
