I saw Guy Clark perform this song many times. I even got to tell him that this song is the reason I know the word "desperado" after a show in Saratoga, California. I used to listen to this song with my dad in his truck when I was a kid in the 80s. "Dad, what's a desperado?" Good times. Sadly, I never got to see The Highwaymen in concert.
I have no idea what happened, i have listened this song countless times, and now when i watched this video, suddenly a tear came running down from my eye. These man truly are the best of the best
I know everybody's entitled to their own opinion. but I literally feel bad for those people put the thumbs down to any of The Highwaymen. may your life have better days. sorry these men are literally Legends and amazing! the world doesn't even have anything like that anymore and for that I'm sad . for those that don't like this I'm even sadder!
I cant even imagine how great it would be to be in front of that stage watching these, the greatest Country Musicians of all time.I wonder,do those people realize how special they are for having gotten that chance?
Johnny is gone. Sad. But this still lives. Guy Clark is witthout a doubt, one of the best I have ever heard. Willie, understands the inflection required. Johnny did too. Aww crap, all four of these guys are amazing at the craft.
Love this. Have a family full of men who have passed away that I could make a memorial video n I'd put this music to. They were my idols, uncle Danny, uncle Ed, papa, Fred, I love you all!
This is one of the best videos I've seen on UA-cam !! We were so blessed to have these fellas... God bless you Willie & Kris RIP Johnny & Waylon Luv you all, Tom
Thank you everyone that put these up!!! Sure helping this gal thru some ruff times, again Thank you Daddy for putting this into my life, i know now why I always choose old outlaw men to love, been seeing them since I could understand what music was..RIP Daddy, sure wish I could share this Tech. with ya!!!
Great rendition. The most famous version of this song is by Jerry Jeff. There is also a video of it on Letterman that includes Guy Clark. Who knows what "playing moon and 42 mean"? They are popular domino games invented in Texas and mostly did not spread past the borders. They are played all over including in beer joints and family gatherings. There is even a state tournament. I don't remember learning, must have started playing at an early age.
8-30-2019- was my first time hearing this song. And I like the hell out of thos song. I dont know why but I feel so sad when listening to this song but I cant stop listening to it. 4 of country music Super Heavyweights, you know this guys were partying from sun up to sun down. Great song
I've seen many great concerts, but The Highway men was definitely my favorite. At the time I was more into classic and southern rock. They had nothing on these legends. The 4 of them had a great time doing it too.
I was at that show in Central Park. I think it was around the time that "The Road Goes On Forever" came out. It was on a Sunday in May. One good thing about the Highwaymen live is that they do the whole song--all the verses. It's the only way for them to all get their lines in! Waylon was the best--he addressed the crowd more than the others did and kept it funny the whole time.
I'm 19 and love listening to these guys aswell. People on my age are looking weird at me, when they see my play list. First of all - The Highwaymen, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Beach Boys, Dire Straits, and some other Raggae stuff, and a bit old school hip hop, and atleast classic music. They are just listening to the newest pop music, techno, and wilder techno, heavy metal death rock, and so on. I don't give a damn fuck about the music now a day. This is the real stuff.
@bridgetlaher it's an interesting question i hope someone came tell us. i don't think it was 2000 from what i remember Johhny stopped touring 1997/8 due to health problems?

Learn how to use punctuation, you idiot!
Love you, Waylon. You cannot be replaced with that voice.
The greatest country super groups cover of this Guy Clark classic, is fantastic. Best cover version of this song. RIP Guy Clark. Peace.
Personally I thin Ray Wylie did it best with Jerry Jeff on a close 2nd. Unfortunately they cut half the song on Viva Terlingua!....

What a tune...Guy clarke...the GOAT x
This was my FAVORITE SONG from the album.
To all of you wondering about the date of this concert, it was 23-05-1993.
Europeans often put the day of the month prior to the month when giving date in its' abbreviated form.
I wonder where now that I know when.
The best time!
Lord knows I!!! I miss this but thank you all x
Have always loved these four, as individual artists as well as a group. They made beautiful music together!
Oh how I would have loved to see this live!
Always regret not seeing these guys when they played at the Toronto sky dome!
