We did a major overhaul of our meal plan a couple months ago. We cut it down to super simple meals. Monday is pasta night, Tuesday is Mexican, Wednesday is breakfast for dinner, Thursday is sandwiches and Friday is pizza. So we keep the same basic food items in the house and only buy what we need every week. So much easier and we save a lot more now.
We've added salad Saturdays too.
I love that approach. I call it a “capsule meal plan”.
That's actually a very interesting idea.. mind if I copy ??? 😊
@@sabrinamendez6223 not at all!
Same here we ended up saving between 60 to $100 a week by making this kind of plan every week. Easier and saves a lot of money. We stock up when there's a sale make sure every perishable item is used up or Frozen in time so that it never goes bad! We have saved money time and resources.
I love and use all of these tips.
I know for the most part, the world has switched to digital coupons, but when I have paper coupons, I’m not going to use, I try to go and stick them by the products in the store so someone else can benefit. About a week ago, my local Kroger store had sent me some coupons and one of the best ones, was going to expire within the week. It was a coupon for five dollars off a $15 purchase of meat. I wasn’t need or planning on buying any meat so I made a point to go to the meat department and look for shoppers that I could give it to. (I actually had two of these coupons.)
I found a mom who was looking at discounted meat and asked her if she was planning to buy at least $15 worth of meat. She responded by saying “my freezer is actually completely empty so I am trying to find the best deals to stock up. “
I ended up giving her both of my coupons, and she was more than thrilled!
Thank you for doing that!!! I buy pricey poise products for my mom and Kroger had a digital for it and some nice person had done just that and I got an extra $1 or so off for her. ❤❤❤❤❤
With the cost of everything, we all need any help we can get!
If everyone in the world had an attitude like you do we wouldn't be in these positions! You deserve a hug and a thank you
Would you mind doing a video on how to store perishable items. I was intrigued in you mentioning rinsing some with water and vinegar. I would love a whole video dedicated to that. Thanks! 😊
My girls love your pantry challenge videos because that is who mommy shops and they thought that was normal. They are amazed by their friends who dont like left overs and who only eat "store food". I cook mostly from scratch I just dont make my own bread (yet) or pasta - (the dog ate the first batch as it was drying)we spend only 10% of our $600/month grocery budget on "now" food (fresh but NOT produce, milk) 20% on dairy and bread and all the rest is for foods to go into our pantry "stores". I use videos like your's, she's in her apron and so many others to teach my girls great skills and to explain how and why I do the things I do.
I’m so glad I can help! I love Kimmy, too at SiHA…a sweet sweet soul and very helpful content.
I really appreciate you mentioning not everyone has the space to buy either lots of products on offer, or to bulk buy items. Just on Friday, I found myself choosing a 2LG bag of rice over a larger, better value one because there isn't a place to keep a larger bag, even if it's a better deal. The 2KG was still better than 1KG, so I picked the best item for our budget and space.
When I get your notification, I stop what I am watching and get on your newest video. Thank you for posting ❤
Lol, me too. Mindy is a blessing to watch.
Thank you so much! Actually that's a huge help with the algorithm. :)
Me too!
Me too! I watch new videos almost immediately
When my sister died last year I found myself cooking for one again. I am on a fixed income so meal planning is important. I went through pantry and freezer and put everything I had on a spreadsheet. I am also a list maker. I try to cook meals using what I have and only buying things to supplement a recipe or fresh items. I freeze a lot and I am going to try to do some pressure canning to save freezer space on some items. Since it is difficult to cook for just one person especially for things like casseroles so I have really gotten into freezer meals. I find that I can sometimes get away with only going to the store once per month or so. I will also use a credit card that give me dollars I can use to pay for other things like my cellphone bill. Note: I pay my credit card off fully every month. Even though I don't have a large family to buy for, I have been loving your videos.
We also use credit cards and pay them off every month. We have accrued quite a few rewards and vacations with this practice, so you won’t get any judgement from us! :)
There are silicone molds that are sold in 1 and 2 cup sizes, with measurements on the inside for smaller increments, to freeze portions of soup. They come with lids. I use them to freeze everything, soups, stock, vegan shepherd 's pie, casseroles, chili, pasta portions, pasta sauces, leftovers, mashed potatoes, squashes, egg bites, unused dairy products if they are close to expiration dates, anything really. Everything is portioned and consistently sized so it is very space saving and can be wrapped and easily labeled. They are a little pricey but have paid for themselves already by helping reduce food waste and helping save batch cooking and adding variety conveniently.
I love your channel and the community in the comments! There is no complaining or blaming anyone else just people doing their best and making the most of every day and every situation. Your videos are liberating they are full of great ideas and your community is supportive and a bunch of go-getters who don't complain they just keep going and making meals with the resources that they have! Beating their family great meals and good memories!

Love the rack in your refrigerator for the eggs.
I know you don’t know me but I just think you are so inspirational. I love how you mix homemade food with some convenience. I use to make EVERYTHING from scratch but it is just not practical for me right now and I am learning to let go of some of that pressure I have put on myself. We are a busy family and I am learning how to be a Mom of two. You are wonderful and I appreciate you!
Thank you so much for those kind words, I really appreciate the encouragement. It’s always good to here my message is hitting the mark, because what you described is my mission with this channel: helpful but realistic! :)
Love all of your videos. Great helpful tips and strategies! As my papa always said, “It’s not a sale unless you need it.” That seems to sum up part of what you’re addressing in today’s video. Thank you for all the time and effort that goes into making these very informative videos! And thank you for always being so real. That makes it seem like we’re friends❣️
Love these videos! Regarding the brand name vs. store brand, most of the time, it’s all in the head. For example, my husband and kids love Life cereal, so one grocery shopping trip I bought 2 knock off boxes (which cost less than one box brand of the same size), quietly filled up our plastic cereal containers, and tossed the tell-tale boxes in the trash. No one noticed the difference. Not one comment from my husband, who is usually pretty good at detecting these differences. 😊
That was a large quantity and an exceptional variety of food for $210! Mindy, your videos are so valuable and “must see” UA-cam viewing!
My husband and I will soon be empty nesters and we are going through the same kind of thing. We also use a credit card we actually use the prime card from Amazon do you put all of our groceries and gas on plus my medications because I'm quite chronically ill and once in awhile I get a free little gift from Amazon with the points plus I saved them for birthdays and Christmas. I pray your life is full of peace and love from those around you!
This week I found out Albertsons has senior discount days. Here it is 10% off the entire purchase on the first Wednesday of the month. This nice woman told me she figures out her meat for the month and shops that way. She said it has saved her over $1,000 in the first year. Wow!
Our local Kroger (called Fry’s) also as senior discount days. My mom capitalizes and does her big trip then.
Oh wow! That’s a really great tip, thanks for sharing!
Our Safeway, which is owned by Albertsons, has the Senior Discount Day and a Veterans Discount Day on the 15th of every month - 10% as well. My husband and I buy the majority of our groceries on those dates. The last Senior Day we saved 43% on our bill. Safeway is expensive, but we shop locally because we choose to support the store that’s in our housing development and not have to drive 11 miles to get to another supermarket. Our store is just two miles from our home and we are grateful that they are here.
thank u! i had no idea👏👏👏
I'm very fortunate. I have a Publix, Aldi, and a Walmart all on my street.
Good afternoon Mandy and Family and Friends. We always look forward to seeing your new vlogs and saving money on groceries. The grocery stores prices are climbing up every day. Hope that everyone is doing well. It's a blessing to listen and learn from our friends here and family's. My family and I also one of our friends Julie said hello 👋. We send our Love and Prayers to our family's and friends. Lots of hugs to our sweet friends. It's been raining here since last night and thunderstorms later today. You always bring us so much good energy and good friendships here Mandy. How's your weather where you live? Blessings to you all. The food looks so delicious 😋. I just made some hard boiled eggs for brunch today. Using what we have in the refrigerator and freezer and cupboards. 😇🥰😇🥰😇🥰😇🥰😇🥰😇🥰😇💙❤💙❤💙❤💙❤💙❤💙❤💙❤💙❤💙❤💙❤💙❤🕊🦋🕊🦋🕊🦋🕊🦋🕊🦋🕊💐🌼🌻🌹🌺🌻🌼💐🌹🌺🌼🌻✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️✝️
I recently had to save a bit of money just untill the paychecks come in and challenged myself to only cook from freezer and cupboard for as long as I am able to. I managed to make it another 4 days with my partner without shopping and it really saved us at this time, I was surprised how many good ideas I was able to come up with when I had limited options. It can be liberating in a sense but also makes me super thankful that I had these items in my cupboards and freezer to begin with.
I love the tip to check the pantry first. I like to look through and see what I can make with what I have and then if I only need one ingredient to make that meal, I just grab that one item. I had everything for a chef salad except for lettuce so picked that up today and now I can enjoy chef salads for a few days! Thanks tor your video ❤
So true, that's a good point! Thanks for watching!
That's what I'm doing now. Making meal list to use what I have before grocery shopping!
Yay! I love to hear that! :)
I am so sad the discount bakeries we knew closed.
We use Upside for gas. We live in small town western Kansas. You’ll be amazed where you can use Upside.
Thank you!
I find your videos so helpful and comforting as a young working mom. It’s like a window into what life could be like when my kids are a bit older. And I love watching someone else throw together a random pantry meal they could never recreate if they wanted to 😂.
When we make our meal plan we also check the calendar- knowing which days we’re out for activities or only having part of the family home for dinner has a huge impact on what I buy.
That is so true, and I do the same thing! I also look at the weather (rainy/cold = soups, vs warmer = sandwiches, etc)
Love the red tages in aldi and walmart after 10
You are my favorite UA-camr. I love your topics and you don't seem over the top like some UA-camrs. That is a plus for me.
Wow, thank you! I appreciate that!
💯!!!!!!! I agree wholeheartedly.
As always, thanks for the video!
My pleasure! Thanks for watching!
Great strategies! I like to look where digital coupons or ibotta coupons overlap with that store's sales or red stickered items. It feels so good to see all those discounts/rewards pile up on the receipt!
Good job.
Thank you! Cheers!
I may have commented this before but with regard to name brands and store brands, they are often manufactured, canned, processed at the same place. My husband works for a local to our area big name dairy. They produce and package their own milk, ice cream and cottage cheese but also produce and package those same products for store brands. They use the same ingredients just put them in a different package. The name brand might have a little more fat content for flavor or “mouth feel” but the basic ingredients are the same.
I have heard that from several sources, it’s good information to know! Thank you!
I did notice that with a pantry check & meal planning l realized that l needed the add on (spring & summer relishes, olives, sauces, & soups before all the prices go up again.
It’s so nice to get home from work and see a new Mindy video!
Thank you so much!
Such an awesome video,thanks lady🎉
Thank you, Mindy! You’re always an inspiration!
Thank you so much!
Thank you, Mindy.
My pleasure!
Thanks for always giving wonderful tips on how to make our budgets work!
Happy to help!
Great tips! Apparently I am doing something right. 😊
Thank you
I'm in Louisiana and we have Brookshire's. It's a good store. Different sales every week.
Yes they are!
Hi Mindy. Thanks for video, learned a new “hack” thanks to you, the yogurt hack putting them in refrigerator in I think is a drawer slot, awesome. Hope things well with you and all of yours😊❤
thank you! yes, that little yogurt rack was a good purchase! Someone else asked so I linked it in the description box. :)
@@SeeMindyMom Thank You Mindy
Do you have an Amazon storefront?
I’m loving your fridge organization… the yogurt and egg organizer specifically
The egg basket came with the fridge, I'm afraid. I'll put a link in the description box for the yogurt racks.
what was the rails that you put the yogurt?
So glad you included #6. I shop Saturday morning because they clear the clearance rack in produce Fridays and label reduction on meats Friday night. So I get “fresh” clearance produce and a good selection of marked down meat.
Wow, that is fantastic! I wish I had the inside scoop on my stores! :)
Lol. Free tacos! My son is a manager for our local Taco Bell! 😉 In our metropolitan area Reasors would be called Price Chopper. Best choice and Always Save are exclusive to Price Chopper here & come from a local plant called Associated Wholesale Grocers. Love the video as usual. God bless!
Best choice is the store brand of several supermarkets I've shopped at throughout my life. I like the brand.
Where did you get the thing you store your eggs in your fridge? That is awesome!
I'm lucky to live in an area in Prlando with a large Hospanic Population. We get Hispanic grocery and that means a full Butcher. We get bulk meat costs at most of these stores. $1.98lb for Chocken Breasts and some lower prices on other select cuts. However Publix will do a bogo and that is 2.50 a lb for blsl.
Our Kroger started giving us Best Customer coupons, which are additional coupons that can be used for produce/meat/frequently bought house brand items. It’s good to use those once a month on top of those sale price items.
I love watching you.i wish we had a lot of grocery stores.how to you get your salad to last long.
Personally, I find romaine hearts last the longest. I wait to prep them until the day I'm using them.
@@SeeMindyMom Thank you
@@janetdwyer1867I use romaine too and I wash it in apple cider vinegar just like she showed using vinegar on her grapes. Works great! Spin the salad if you have a spinner or we just drain the water and add some paper towels. It stays fresh quite awhile. We eat salad almost every day😅 green leaf lettuce works well too.
@@dianasimplifies thank you I will try that
The USA does seem to have lovely bargains! There are many advantages to living here in Australia, but bargain shopping is less likely to be one of them. LOL! Thank you for the video! Have a fabulous weekend!
I know Australia is big, but I do follow someone who does her shopping in Brisbane and does do quite well with feeding her family on a low budget per person per day. She only shops every six weeks and has a few kids and that does add up, but she does get good deals. Her channel is called 'Our Small Footprint'.
Thx Mindy for letting others know our secrets! I’m single and have been shopping for years. I always buy generic store brand products because they usually come from the same company as brands. And I always meal plan around what is on sale. I only have a few grocery stores where I live and it works out fine. I have no use to join a big box store especially because they are no where near I live. And I eat nutritious foods. Never eat fast foods. You are such a good steward! I love when you say that! ❣️
Thank you so much for watching! I’m with you on the big box store. I actually think if I didn’t have a channel around food prep/shopping, I would let my Sam’s club membership go.
@@SeeMindyMomooohhhh noooooo we love sams! They ship free to us! LOL! I refused to do plus for years then decided to try it one year and I'm sold! 😂😂😂😂 every month I look on the app to see which products we buy are on sale. I try to only shop the sales. 😅
Great video! I encourage people living near ‘ethnic markets’ targeted to people from a certain country to give them a try. Many times I find excellent prices on produce.
I agree!
Your tips are absolutely amazing!!! I am lucky there are four great stores within two miles of me...prices are high as I live in a suburb of Philadelphia. So I budget carefully..honestly, shopping online has been a super experience as I can remove foods etc to make my budget work...and I am recovering still, from eye surgery and delivery has been a wonderful thing for me. But I will soon be back in the stores..thank you for your encouraging all of us and inspiring me to do better with MT budget!
My budget!
Happy I can help! Glad you are on the mend!
Nothing wrong with that! I don't drive either and found it easier to budget getting my groceries delivered instead of just tossing things in my cart, and I can stand in my kitchen and plan my meals and shopping around what I already have. Sure I pay a delivery fee but it's cheaper than an uber I'd have to get otherwise and I can see immediately how my cart is adding up and change it over and over without hiking back and forth around the store. I'll still go to the store occasionally but it's always cheaper when I get things delivered, even shopping clearance in person, because it's just easier to plan things out. Also helps with not forgetting things because I can start my list days before I place the order so I'm sure it's set by the time I put it through. I have a constant running grocery list and even the day after I get them I'll start the next one with things I know I'm going to rebuy.
Albertson's has great coupons 25 Ramen noodles 5 dollars ice drinks 32 cents limit 24 for 7.84
Another tip. Never buy marked down chicken from Food Lion if that's your local store. Every single time I have done so in the past it has been rancid. I was there this evening again and they had marked down chicken and it stank... obviously already expired. Haven't had this problem with any of our other local chains like IGA or Walmart. Instead at Food Lion purchase their chicken thighs, wings, legs etc when they go to 99c a pound and stock up then like Mindy says! 99c a pound for thighs this week and I grabbed a few to stock up. Those are great in the instant pot for making chicken tacos, plus you can run the leftover skin and bones again to make chicken stock and get the most out of that instant pot juice! ☺ Thank you for helping us all keep on track Mindy, that price on bread you showed us was great!
I just made chicken tacos with chicken thighs this past week in the slow cooker. So good!
I don’t buy soda that often because it’s so expensive only if I want it on Tuesday I got some 7up zero sugar kind because I was not feeling well
Good video and it did prompt me to check out the sales at Kroger even though I am a devoted Aldi shopper. That said, the Aldi Oreos are so much better then the name brand! Have a great wk.
I need to try those, people keep mentioning the Aldi Oreos
@@SeeMindyMomyep my hubby is brand loyal but he will eat Aldi double stuffed Oreos 😅
I had a great handle on our food budget- and then my son turned 13. He’s now 14, 6’3” and growing, and he and his older sister (also over 6 feet) are both athletes. Any tips on how to feed kids with hollow legs? Who eat again at 10pm because they are starving after a substantial dinner? We go through a gallon of organic milk a day. I’d love ideas for fun, substantial snacks that will satiate my absurdly tall family of 5!
Are there HEB stores in Tulsa?
No, but I wish! :) I got to visit one last year while we were in TX for spring break. If I'm ever in the area where HEB is, I try to get by there!
I started using tip 1 more strategically, e have no eggs, good let's make some kind of porridge for breakfast, no ground meat, let's make meatless pasta, no bread, let's try a new recipe (learned how to make English muffins) and it really helps not only to stretch your money but also not to let anything go to waste.
I love that mindset! Great job!
Holy Cow! the weekly moderate for my family is $509.40!!! No Way can we pay that. $410.20 was the low, better but still outrageous.
Great tips!! I went to pick up generic Rice Krispies cereal today and was not able to find it.. the smallest box of name brand (Kellogg’s) was $4.99 on sale!! 😮
I know, right?! I still get sticker shock from some items and I’m in the stores all the time for work!
I stopped buying cereal, the price has gone up sooo much. I'll do oatmeal when I want a cereal, and just get the generic plain tub and flavor it a hundred different ways myself so it's always different. Funny enough, when I first was buying my own groceries I used coupons and got months of cereals for 30 cents a box and was one of the cheapest things I could get, and they were the brand names too!
Our freezer is in the garage so it’s easy for me to forget what I have on hand there. So that things don’t languish there or I buy things I don’t need, I periodically inventory freezer contents and keep the list on my indoor fridge. It’s so handy with meal planning and knowing when to start watching prices for restocking items (Chicken this week! 😊) Another tip is to know each store’s policies on accepting competitors coupons and pricing errors. There are two stores in my area that will give you the item free if it rings up incorrectly.
I used to price match a lot at Walmart years ago, especially the produce deals at regular supermarkets. I think they stopped that policy a while back, but it sure was a helpful one!
@@SeeMindyMom same here! We have a grocery chain that just opened in our area and they were sending out lots of $10/50 coupons. Two of the stores I shop (with overall better prices than the news store) will accept them. I only used a couple at the store that actually sent them. 😂😂
That Dave’s bread for $3!!!!
I have a tip, shop alone! I went shopping with hubby and I swear we spent twice as much as I do without him. 🤦♀️
Are you and the YOU tuber Frugal Fit Mom related. I have wondered a long time if y’all were. I love watching both of your channels 😊😊
cool
Albertson's family size honey nut cherrios 1.97 when buying 3 and 1 dollar coupon so 2 cost 1.57 and one 1.97😊
Also Albertson's has chicken 99 cents for drum sticks and thighs
Do you shop at Kroger or Walmart
My friend Pam from church gave me a Easter card it says thank you for being a friend what did she mean by that . Plus I also got a birthday card from her too and it was purple
Generic is such a money saver..... But, I will not compromise on Heinz Ketchup.
I hear that a lot, actually. There’s a lot of brand loyalty to Heinz!
There is a taste difference.
Actually I have recently switched from Heinz to the Hunt's 100% Natural No high fructose corn syrup and it is really good. I only bought 1 to try and no complaints, so we have switched.
Every time after we get home from grocery shopping and everything is put away, we separate the meats out and write down how much of it we have. One large pack of chicken feeds us for the whole month since it's only my hubby and I.
That's a great idea!
Do you shop at Sam’s Club or Costco
Cereal at Albertsons brand is the same as name brands at half the price.
Good to know!
👍👍👍👍👍👍
I buy frozen fruit and veggies instead of buying fresh, like blueberries and strawberries. Always in my freezer ready for my meal plan.
We like frozen fruit, too. My kids are definitely in a smoothie phase!
Does the generic brand of golden grams taste like golden grams?
Many ‘ethnic’ stores and mom & pop owned stores are cheaper then shopping at major supermarkets
NONE of my stores mark-down meat, produce, or bakery items except Wal-Mart (bakery only, and usually only doughnuts, pastries, etc.).
You are a nice you tube lady
Thank you! I appreciate that!
And whole chickens 99 cents
Aldi frozen vegetables cheapest at aldi
Mindy, I really appreciate your content! I do wish you didn't talk so fast lol!
You can slow YT videos down.
@@dianasimplifies I thank you for the tip, but casting UA-cam to my tv doesn't have many control options.
@@SHagen-sv8kb ah ok! Maybe google it and see if it tells you how to fix it?
Really disappointed in the Upside app. It’s not picking up any standard stores in our area, only the occasional smaller independents, and I live in a capital city.
Canned corn is terrible from many generic or regional brands. DelMonte is the best and nongmo. A lot of generic corn brands have yucky green or black slim under the rim of the can lid.
Really basic. Didn't make it past #1.
So just move on. No need to be negative.
Maybe you don't need her tips but a lot of us appreciate her even if some of the tips are a review. ❤ A lot of people have no clue how to bargain shop.
