The game was a pretty big disappointment for many, but this trailer is so fucking epic. I still come back to watch it every once in a while and it still makes my hair stand on end. This is the most bad-ass 3-minute span I've ever witnessed.
Whoever made this trailer really captured the 40k and DoW feeling. It's also nice to see that all factions were equal or equally killed in the end. That just goes to show how brutal the universe is.
Yeah, I'm glad it wasn't a Space Marine jerk-off, but actually portrayed 3 different races fairly equally, with none of them seemingly being the "protagonist" of the trailer (although I guess that Astartes dude is the protagonist, but he's more of a bookend).

I appreciate the "not even trying" stride of the Wraithknight, especially put next to the "balls out aggression" of the two Dominus Knights attacking it. It's the sort of dynamic action that you (sadly) can't get from tabletop miniatures! I guess part of that is why "Sync Kills" were so important and memorable back in DoW 1, despite their drawbacks in gameplay. It really felt like units were interacting with each other, not just playing attack animations -near- each other.
I was just thinking that! That feeling of total galactic ultimate war where the billions upon the billions die in the day to day grind. 40k blends dystopia and realism with fantasy and a sort of magic which is amazing to say the least.
The Empereror decrees that there is no magic, no mystery, only science and knowledge, no matter how incredible the consequences of such a mighty grace and horror that could be. That we humans have the will to acheive anything we can imagine. That we are power beyond compare. In a dark and dangerous universe there is no foe nor hardship that we encounter will stop us. The future will be one in our name. Glory to the empire!
Not really, the last game was like 5 squads max on the map that had the retreat option so they weren't really dying. And the Space Marine hack and slash was just a ton of dead orks. They always show the hardships of Space Marines in their cinematics, but the games are actually nothing like that.

I still want to believe it simply want rendered properly and textures werent completed and so on. after all it was pre-alpha. cant really expect it to be the finished game and they would just hold it on a shelf because they are a punch of assholes. tho if the finished game looks that bad, id like a refund.

And there is a certain kind of atmosphere these trailers create, and then when I saw gameplay it just instantly killed it. People then say you can't have cg graphics in game, well of course not, but you can keep some kind of line, likeness, grittiness, they could do that....
The people involved and responsible for developing this trailer knew what they were doing and who they were doing it for. They succesfully nailed the essence of what makes Dawn of War.. Dawn of War. Unfortunately the same cannot be said for those who were actually developing the game. Shame.. such a shame..

This trailer is fantastic. The whole video is a series of 40K metaphors. The blast of wind, combined with the "times of doubt" line bring to mind the the test of faith every Space Marine constantly endures in order to remain faithful to the Emperor. Eventually, a few fall to it, some slowly stumbling, some all at once. And there is no happiness like that which is achieved in dying for the Emperor's cause, as we can see by the smile on the space marine's face at the end. That's a part of what makes the Space Marines so dangerous and interesting--their utter devotion to their god trumps any amount of power, influence, or money that any planetary governor could give them. Also, I've never seen a more fitting image representing the 40K universe than the horrific and neverending rain of bodies at the beginning and end. The entire storyline is one gigantic meat grinder, in which we get to see little snapshots of triumphs and failures, acts of devotion and betrayal and heresy. We get to see what life is like in such a world, and that's what draws people. I love it.

Tuff yeah i hear u on on that. the orks should be the smaller then the space marines, a nob is barely close to the same size as a space marine. Maybe a Warboss would match them, but i like the art style still, and the cinematography is just gorgeous in itself. Lore aside its great.

+marko simunic They were a lesser known chapter that had little lore about them. It meant the game devs didn't have to worry too much about lore conflicts and could write the story they wanted to tell. As for why specifically, probably because they have a nice colour scheme that's distinct yet not tied to more established chapters, along with a cool sounding name to market them with. But that's just my guess.

jason eddie Again, you have to go in deeper than Dawn of War to know the story. You have to read a shit ton of books and/or do research online to know what's fully going on. I suggest looking up on UA-cam the channel called Vaults of Terra. They summarize the 40k lore perfectly.

This trailer is fantastic. The whole video is a series of 40K metaphors. The blast of wind, combined with the "times of doubt" line bring to mind the the test of faith every Space Marine constantly endures in order to remain faithful to the Emperor. Eventually, a few fall to it, some slowly stumbling, some all at once. And there is no happiness like that which is achieved in dying for the Emperor's cause, as we can see by the smile on the space marine's face at the end. That's a part of what makes the Space Marines so dangerous and interesting--their utter devotion to their god trumps any amount of power, influence, or money that any planetary governor could give them.
Also, I've never seen a more fitting image representing the 40K universe than the horrific and neverending rain of bodies at the beginning and end. The entire storyline is one gigantic meat grinder, in which we get to see little snapshots of triumphs and failures, acts of devotion and betrayal and heresy. We get to see what life is like in such a world, and that's what draws people. I love it.

Tuff yeah i hear u on on that. the orks should be the smaller then the space marines, a nob is barely close to the same size as a space marine. Maybe a Warboss would match them, but i like the art style still, and the cinematography is just gorgeous in itself. Lore aside its great.
+DΛNTE : That new look for the Eldar really does reinforce the fact that they're alien. I love the organic texture, and I hope that Geedubs ports it over to the tabletop, or at least shows a technique on how to paint wraithbone like that.

+Hector Villarreal Thats someting i never managed to find an answer to. Why out of all the space marine chapters they chose the blood ravens to be the main chapter in these games ( not sure about DoW 3 though)?
+marko simunic They were a lesser known chapter that had little lore about them. It meant the game devs didn't have to worry too much about lore conflicts and could write the story they wanted to tell. As for why specifically, probably because they have a nice colour scheme that's distinct yet not tied to more established chapters, along with a cool sounding name to market them with. But that's just my guess.
