When I was a kid we rabbit hunted a lot. We had a fairly large family, and every Thanksgiving and Christmas we had a tradition of rabbit hunting. Now I'm the pawpaw and I have kept that tradition going with my son's and grandsons. I love to hear those beagles running.
Young doe's are for sure, big old bucks are bit too gamey, especially if a shot pellet ruptures his plumbing and his pee leaks out, what an unholy stink that is.
Yup, that's what I did for years. I raised beagles for 20 + years and ran swampers and cottontails. Though I'd take a limited amount of folks with me, we'd hunt some really nice but super thick areas. Most rabbit hunters had NO clue what a swamper was. I'd get a cottontail and a swamper together and show new or non-hunters the difference in their body makeup. We called them Swampers, Blue Tails, Marsh Rabbits, or Cane Cutters. Another thing is that swampers can swim really well. Not only will they climb a tree or climb up inside a hollowed out tree but they'd climb one. My preferred rabbit to run hunt was swamper b/c they'd run much further and harder than cottontails but I prefer the cottontail meat over swamper meat (just my own preference). Be safe and keep on just keep on run-n dem dawgs. I just love hearing the dogs run. We called it Sweet music to our ears. 👍🏽🙂
I used to have a beagle that would whine when he hit a covey of quail. If he'd whine and not open up then get ready for some bob whites. Great video. Made me recall my youth. Thanks.
Big races from those swamp rabbits! It looks like they run a lot like the snowshoe hare I hunt in Northern Michigan up here. Always wanted to take my beagle down to your neck of the woods for some of those big races where you can see more than 10 ft. in front of you unlike running hare up here! Good looking dogs you guys are running with here!
Hunting with good beagles is like taking candy from a baby , still a great fun time !!! Do you ever field gut and give them the liver for a hunting treat ?
Enjoyed your hunt I’ve hunted rabbits, all my life with dogs. One bit of suggestion for you guys don’t be yelling back-and-forth when the dogs are bringing the rabbit back I have found out over the years. The quieter you are the better if the Rabbit knows you’re there he’s got a run faster and possibly see you and avoid you. Just slow down and be quiet. It is served me well. Enjoyed your video.
Swamp rabbits are a subspecies of cotton tail. The other end of the spectrum is the pygmy rabbit of the southwest which might on a good day, weigh a pound.
The difference between the cottontail rabbit and the swamp rabbit is size of head, body, and legs. The swamp rabbit is larger and it is mainly due to diet. Swamp rabbits generally eat more "bodybuilding" berries and greenery. It works.
that not a swamp rabbit. a swamp rabbit is when you hold his back legs to your waist and the front legs touch the ground. i've have seen them that big. savannah tn.
Those Rabbits look like Rats compared to one that attacked a hunter in Alberta Canada back in the 1990s. They claim it was as big as a Great Dane and was chewing on the tree to get at the Hunter.
These videos always make me feel good and forget whatever crap is goin on in this country, and it makes reason 1,001 to be a proud Kentuckian

Low key? They are some of the best meat around in my opinion. Pheasant are great too.

I love rabbit hunting with good dogs and good friends.
Amen don't get no better
It’s okay if your depended on the meat but some do it just for kicks and to brag that’s what I have a problem with
@@TheBlackdiamond88 99% of people just do it for the fun of killing

Did some rabbit hunting as a boy. Always loved to hear the dogs run them.
Wow what a soulful cry so beautiful to hear.
Great memories growing up in Ohio. My family raised beagles and bassets. Very little land there to hunt now thanks to urban sprawl

If I let my Beagle loose without a leash I would never see her again.
Totally different than rabbit hunting in WA

Old days of rabbit hunting.
Great video. Anymore?
Good dogs!
Damn good hunting right there. Great dogs too.
6:20, i understand you completely, you have to throw the lead at them sometimes no matter the distnace!
What’s the difference between a swamp rabbit and a cottontail? Same species or totally different? Thank you

Good job
how many ticks do the dogs come home with (and fleas) ? anyway, enjoyed the video, wish I had the funds to do it...
In which state can you hunt large Beagles with rabbits?
I would love to be able to train my beagle to track and hunt.
Amazing. Forgive a newbie question, but how do you avoid shooting the dogs?
You just be careful, and very conservative with shots.
We make sure what our target is before pulling the trigger
why do you use so many dogs for one hunt?
that not a swamp rabbit. a swamp rabbit is when you hold his back legs to your waist and the front legs touch the ground. i've have seen them that big. savannah tn.
How do you boys cook those rabbits?
Awesome 👍
lookin like our swampers here louisiana lettem hammer!!!!
it has to be scary hunting with dog with the possibility of accidentally shooting your dog. I still think hunting is great though
really good video except I couldn't really hear the dogs because of the music
Those poor bunnies~ ó.ò
5:21 incredible
Hello

That's the. Craziest thing I've ever heard
Love the kill shots
Must be nice, coyote have eliminated 90 percent of ours and the other 10 is loss of habits. Avoid Wisconsin
Hunting ribb
Wifey my wifey
Hunting rabbits with a shotgun not much of a challenge You're not very good shots
I sure would like to see you out there shooting at a bunny with 10 dogs chasing him it’s not easy
This is why I can’t get close to my pet bunny I can’t touch her and it’s because rabbits have been hunted for years just stressing facts
using dogs is not hunting, i don't care how far back it goes.
Then what do you call it.you must be one of those people that can't train a good dog
You gotta be kidding. We are there for the dogs. Killing a rabbit is secondary
Beagles love chasing rabbits.
