Later on, when they show a little of Methode's backstory in the manga, it makes more sense why Serie passed her. But yeah, it basically comes down to her not being the slightest bit intemidated by her mana. She was morn concerned about her being little and cute😂.
also back in ep 1, before frieren cried at himmel's funeral, the walking animation of himmel when he said " it would be embarrassing when we meet again" was shown. great foreshadowing
