Here Steffi shows her ability to counter Serena's extreme slice serve. It is interesting to note that both of Serena's best serves, down the T on the AD court and the slice out wide on the Deuce court, go to Steffi's forehand. Based on the evidence from this match, Steffi's forehand trumps Serena's serve.
(Why should this match matter more than the other two matches? Because of the higher quality of play. In fact, it's Serena's best serving performance of the three. Graf also served well and hit her forehand consistently. That was not the case in the other two matches.
Whatever the case, this is how it stands:
Hong Kong* - Graf beat Serena. Graf played consistently.
Sydney - Graf beat Serena. Graf did not play well.
Indian Wells - Graf was a break up in the third and almost beat Serena. Graf did not play well.
If Graf could beat you when she was not playing well, she was going to have the edge when she was playing well. That was her track record.)
