Guy, I don't know how to "thank you" because not of all "thank you" in the world is enough for how I am grateful with your video! The English language does not have a word that is a bit enough to explain how I am grateful with your video. And I am not a native English speaker.
I just wanted to take a moment to express my gratitude for the incredible guidance and explanations you provide in your videos. Your clear and understandable English has made a huge difference for me, even as a non-native speaker.
THANKSS! much appritiated i was able to access my ubuntu (which was not booting) through windows saving my time and energy very useful tool (FTK Imager) simple to use
@@BlueMonkey4n6 Yeah it sure did. I will never install Ubuntu again. The new version of Ubuntu sucks. Might try Fedora or any Red Hat based distro instead of those Debian based distros.
I dont have the exact same hardware to test this out but is it possible that when you plugged the external HDD into the TV, the TV formatted it to something that Windows does not read (like ext4)?
Hi, thanks for creating this video, I never heard of this tool before and it seems it can be very helpful in a lot of cases in which an disk fails. But in my case it seems it failed: I tried to use it on a Samsung SSD that had ceased to be bootable in a Linux laptop but without any luck (even if on a Windows 10 machine Computer Management - Disk Management the partition is considered "Healthy (Active, Primary Partition)" FTK Imager does not recognize the file system: in Evidence Tree the node under "Partition" is labeled as "Unrecognize file system [Linux native]". Could you give some tips (maybe on using this tool in a more advanced way) so that I can manage to retrieve the data from my disk? 🙏
Is it possible that the Linux system you were using was using LVMs? That could explain why there is "unrecognized file system". Please check out the LVM and RAID videos to see if those help.
I used FTK Imager on a drive that I pulled from a Ubiquiti Unfi NVR raid 1 and all I see is tons of "unallocated space". No recognizable structure other than a couple partitions, and actually Windows disk manager shows more partitions on the drive than FTK Imager does. Is that normal? Is there a way to view data on drives from a Unifi NVR?
hmm, I am not familiar with the Ubiquiti NVR filesystem so I am not sure why FTK Imager see less than Windows. I would have assumed that the filesystem would be some Linux variant so I would suggest trying to using a Linux machine to read it.
@@BlueMonkey4n6 I put the same drive back into the Unifi NVR and it was still full of recordings, so the data is definitely on it. I don't own a linux machine. Just wish I had some simple way of viewing a linux based drive on a windows machine. Hmm, I wonder if the file system for this drive is stored on the NVR itself?
Sorry if FTKImager didnt work. That may be due to the Linux system running a LVM or the NVR running a hardware RAID. I dont know of another simple way of doing it. If you dont have a separate Linux machine, i can recommend running one in a Virtual Machine on your PC or else booting your Windows machine with a Linux Distro USB. I have a bunch if video tutorials on those on my channel.
I may not be understanding your question but if you are trying to convert a Windows filesystem like NTFS or ExFAT to ext4, the answer is no. FTKImager is a viewer and does not create filesystems.
so.. how are XFS samba shares read/writeable on Windows ? do NAS boxes come with drivers for Windows to work or are XFS shares exposed/managed by the NAS box / embedded system and exposed as exfat/ntfs ??
Am I able to just drag and drop my files from an ext4 external hard drive to my dropbox? I'm trying to upload my hard drive contents to dropbox, reformat my harddrive to exfat, and redownload it to that reformatted hardrive so i can keep using it with my windows computer.
@Pridetoons not with this method. If you want to write to ext4 from Windows, you will need to download tools like ext2fsd (downloadable via sourceforge)

Sometimes you just want to triage a disk to see whats on there. From a forensics viewpoint, read only is a good thing. Ftkimager is free but there are commercial tools that will allow you to read and write to linux filesystems.

@@BlueMonkey4n6 it seems that free xfs drivers dont exist for windows
@jirehla-ab1671 you are correct. Thats why you will need to use software like FTK Imager which is FREE or else pay for commercial software.
This is the ONLY WORKING FREE METHOD for Ext4 in 2024. Thank you so much!
You are welcome!

@An_ony_mous ok, let me know how those work out
God bless you my bro, i am extremely grateful
The fact that neither Windows nor MacOS can read an XFS drive is not something I was prepared for
Yeah, Linux!!
thanks! helped me save some important files from a corrupted raspberry pi image
Awesome!!! I love to hear these success stories. Thanks for leaving the comment.
