Mothballed Ticos and burke? Impossible even if the US just offer to give them away to PH. The recipient must be able to sustain and maintain what is given if ever the US will hand out (which something that they dont really do. Taiwan bought and paid in full for hundreds of millions of dollars for the secondhand naval warships they got Perry frigates and Spruance class destroyers) theres still costs the ex USCG coast guard cutters that were transferred to the Philippines is still significantly costly in PH peso with the equivalent of almost half a billion pesos or 14+ million USD for a stripped lightly armed each ship theres a preferrence to just spend on Sokor give away like the Pohang class which are more armed and less stripped for lesser cost which is around 250 million pesos even have more essential equipments onboard though maybe a bit dated. The US has offered more but the current gov is lukewarm to spend to get the remaining cutter anyway the Perry class frigate was offered as well but the all turbine gas engine configuration is said to be not preferred due to fuel consumption cost thats not economical for the PH Navy hence only the ex USCG cutters were acquired. The PH Navy wants more Cyclone though (they got one earlier in 2000s given by the US as part of anti terror aid to the country) but the US seems not too inclined to give them as a handout this time, PH needs to pay/buy and knowing the current gov stance about buying secondhand that offer is going nowhere. As much as PH gov support for military spending is barely enough and slow and goes inside the hole of a needle as they say, the acquisition of brandnew vessels is continuing the Covid did affected delayed more what should have been already signed like the FAIC-M (fast attack interdiction craft- missile) the other Navy's big ticket acquisitions in what they called horizon 2 (2018-2023 timeline) will be funded via softloan from foreign governments such as the corvettes and OPVs and if their really serious on going ahead to have submarines the French has a standing offer as well as South Korea, infact both are contending also to get the Corvette and OPV contract. The cost is a hindrance for PH to accept the remaining cutter, for me it will be really good more useful if it is just given to the Coast guard instead of the Navy since gray ship in EEZ encounter will be more high profile. The gov is just not interested to pay despite of having none to few ships for its armed forces but the Coast guard will receive more OPVs already the contract was already signed with the Japanese for the two 94meter patrol ships based on JCG Kunigami class vessel. Just to add though, i think almost all of the Perry class were already scrapped by now so no chance at all, the last time i red from local defense fora the US is offering 3 ships.
@@davidkrappenschitz4753- a great read, no doubt you're an intellectual and have a better understanding of the PI current Naval military condition. thanks for the info
To all the comments about why no armament It's a civilian coast guard ship for routine patrols and rescue and not a military spec for warfare against Chinese destoyers. The Filipino Coast Guard is run by the ministry of transport not the ministry of defence. So a group of armed coast guard sailors, a helicopter, and zodiac style craft for boarding is all that is really needed for controlling ship traffic or conducting search and rescue. If you wanted you could always arm it with plenty of weapons (76mm, etc...), but that is not what the customer wanted. Those extra weapon systems are expensive. Are the police patrol cars equipped with bullet proof glass, V-shaped hull, Active Protecion System, 30mm gun turrets and ATGM where you live?
yes we need more boats, but don't worry another 6 OPV will be built here in Cebu Philippines under AUSTAL ship building...and by 2020 2 Frigates that the PH government procured will be received coming from S. Korea Hyundai Heavy industries and 2 more Corvettes will be built by the same company for the Philippines... we will be receiving 2 additional ships from Japan this 2020 as well.... so don't worry slowly but surely we are being equipped and yes we are capable....
You may wish to get your facts straight. The Holland-class from the Royal Netherlands navy is 108.4 m (355 ft 8 in) meaning it's longer. Aside from that the Holland-class is the only real operational OPV world wide and is the original design of which this Philippine Coast Guard variant is build. You can clearly see this in the design that on several points are very close to the Dutch design of the Holland-class. Also a real OPV should be able to carry a helicopter and have a deck for it to take off from (not the tiny bumblebee this thing offers which was never designed for open sea in the first place), which this French design does not have. The idea of a real OPV is to be able to handle them self's in many situations while remaining near the coast and well outside the range of any coast at all. a helicopter is added to the original to do also many different tasks, including search and rescue missions. While the original is armed to the teeth, this thing the French made doesn't even have a rock to throw at anyone if needed. This French company made a huge mistake at the cost of the Philippine Coast-Guard. At least give them some form of protection, these sailors will be on the sea trying to do their job. Really think it is worth it to send them out unarmed? For the design, damn... are the French still living in WW2 or something while slapping on some modern features? That is a very poor design. Radar capability is limited with this French model as well, they may as well go in a pitch black room blindfolded and get asked to kill a single cockroach in the room. The goal for a real OPV is that you can actually see far beyond what your binoculars can see, this can safe live's. Not giving them a poor man's solution. Even the RHIB's are a stolen idea and poorly designed, get a FRISC instead which is on board the Holland-class ships. Bigger and much faster boats that have a much larger capacity to rescue people in a single go. The RHIB does have better control on the waves and can be deployed and taken out of the water faster which is the obvious size issue and the engine of the RHIB doesn't have a screw in the water while lifting it up. The FRISC is however launched from below the flight deck on the Holland-class which actually makes it a lot easier and faster for loading and unloading. The FRISC however can be equipped with a cabin which the RHIB can not. To all Philippine people, sorry that this trash boat is given to your Coast-Guard, I really do hope your government will choose wiser next time. Visit the Netherlands, Germany, UK or even Norway and Denmark for decent ships.
It's a civilian coast guard ship for routine patrols and rescue and not a military spec for warfare. So helicopter, zodiac style craft for boarding is all that is really needed for controlling ship traffic. If you wanted you could always arm it with plenty of weapons (76mm, etc...), but that is not what the customer wanted. Those extra weapon systems are expensive And you are completely wrong about french ships you hateful xenophobe Fitsly the comment on length was with respect to aluminium hulls not steel. Listen before going off on a tirade FYI US chose Fremm as its next FFGX frigate. I think the US Navy is more competent to judge than an internet troll. Furthermore Norway's frigate sank not too long ago UK type 45 is always at doc in maintenance due to poor engines. Meanwhile French Horizon class has been doing missions at sea for years. German Navy, what is that do they ever leave port? Dutch navy and Belgian navy just ordered some french built mine hunters, i guess they disagree with you also. In fact Dutch navy is likely to order french subs. Jog on troll
Congrats .. it will help a lot and can be a diterent to any incoming intruder to our sovereign tiretories of our country even we don't want war . But it help that this people will stop bullieng us Filipino... Godbless more protection from on high...
Wow. Powerful. If only we could put in addition Rafaeli missiles system like what we installed in our small fast boats, it would be a formidable deterrent to those who take for granted our sea borders.
I believe we just ordered 2 more large 90m steel hulled PCG ships from Japan. These are great additions to patrol our shores. Good luck to all smugglers ( drugs, rice, vegetables, oil, gas, coal, etc etc). If those PCG will really do their job and stop being corrupted by these smugglers these ships should pay for itself in 2 years time!!!!

The Philippines should procure two more of this design.
Wow !! I Love it . We need more of this kind .. Pls..
L'intérieur ressemble à un yacht de luxe. J'espère en avoir plus pour l'armée Philippine. Merci la France d'avoir construit ce navire.
Those extra weapon systems are expensive
And you are completely wrong about french ships you hateful xenophobe
Fitsly the comment on length was with respect to aluminium hulls not steel. Listen before going off on a tirade
FYI US chose Fremm as its next FFGX frigate. I think the US Navy is more competent to judge than an internet troll.
Furthermore Norway's frigate sank not too long ago
UK type 45 is always at doc in maintenance due to poor engines.

How come you don't see these coast guard ships patrolling the Philippines?
we need 9 more of that vessel, bcause ph has a long sea shore
Wow nice - a luxurious tourist boat and fun ferry of Malacañang.
Wow. Powerful. If only we could put in addition Rafaeli missiles system like what we installed in our small fast boats, it would be a formidable deterrent to those who take for granted our sea borders.
Merci bouccoup France 🙏🙏🙏🙏

@@robertprin554 ano naman ang masama kung mag pasalamat?
I believe we just ordered 2 more large 90m steel hulled PCG ships from Japan. These are great additions to patrol our shores. Good luck to all smugglers ( drugs, rice, vegetables, oil, gas, coal, etc etc). If those PCG will really do their job and stop being corrupted by these smugglers these ships should pay for itself in 2 years time!!!!
Damn what a beautiful ship, would look good In ships side grey

Ganda namn.. Ano weapons meron yan? my anti ship missiles ba yan?
Hindi po siya combatant warship.
Ang primary role po niya is search and rescue, utility, and maritime security.
Ang Anti-Ship Missiles ay nasa Philippine Navy BRP Jose Rizal at BRP Antonio Luna.
The problem is, the ship has 20 knots to 15 knots while the Chinese modern ship has 24 knots and up. Hope they will require the 24 knots in next Aquition project of the OPV
It's not a combat ship, it's just a command ship, it won't fight other ships cuz it has no guns
@@historychannel4023 if you were in sea territory, you can siege those ship if Chinese which has 24 knots near the WPS when you want to warned them when inside the territory which they could able to seal where ever they want, mostly the Coast Guard of Chinese
March 2020 Still not in the Philippines. They are still in the Middle East Asia.
