The keys to pay off your house faster:
1.- Don't buy more house than you need. A larger house requires more maintenance, more furniture.
2.- Don't buy with all your available credit because you "qualify". Big mortgage will take longer to pay. An expensive house pay more property taxes and insurance.
3.- Don't buy an old house. Old houses need more maintenance.
4.- After paying off all other debt, throw everything at your mortgage (stimulus checks, bonuses, overtime, 2nd job).

Some or most older homes are built better than the brand new ones built in the last 8 years. So I wouldn’t completely stay away from an older home if it’s a major bargain, plumbing might be the worse thing to experience in buying an older home, then windows, and HVAC.

We bought an older house that was over 200k in savings vs a newly built home , that could fit us and our parents. We had rented a new home, And saw there was a huge difference in value.(all brick vs a builder grade with basic siding )

The issue is that either the renter or the owner must in some way pay insurance and property taxes if they want a "permanent roof" with utilities like electricity, gas and water. Because of this, many people-at least in California, where I currently reside-are living in tents. No taxes, rent, mortgages, or insurance. The number of people who tell me they live in their car that I meet amazes me. Its crazy out here!

It’s getting wild by the day. The prices of homes are quite ridiculous and Mortgage prices has been skyrocketing on a roll(currently over 7%). Sometimes i wonder if to just invest my spare cash into the stock market and wait for a housing crash or just go ahead to buy a home anyways.

I get such worries too. I'm 50 and retiring early. Already worried of the future and where its headed, especially in terms of financies and how to get by. I'm also considering making my first investment in the stock market, but how can I do so given that the market has been in a mess for the majority of the year?

Personally, I can connect to that. When I began working with "Catherine Morrison Evans," a fiduciary financial counsellor, my advantages were certain. In these circumstances, I would always advise getting professional help so they can steer you through choppy markets and just give you indicators and strategies for knowing when to enter and exit the market.

Yes...when we paid off our mortgage it was AMAZING!!! Paid off a 30 year mortgage in 20 not as quick as this couple...but for us it done under a one income household because of our special needs child....only one parent could work while the other had to provide full care and supervision! But if you work hard it can be done!!! Lots of "sacrifice" is KEY!!!

Call it a Financial Plan instead of a Budget and it is easier to swallow. Its like the difference between a Diet versus a Nutritional Plan. Words matter. Also by adding the word "Plan" it makes it sound grandiose and like you are about your business which means you structure your life through a strategy.

When my daughter was 14 she called into the Dave Ramsey show and asked about investing. Your guest having his son invest 50% was the kind of advice she was looking for. Dave just told her to save for a car and college, but not a defined plan. No investment advice at all. So, I am so thrilled to hear this man giving his kids this kind of advice.

Had the ups and downs of life especially after having to take care of my elderly parents as they aged..and sometimes could not work...but it was my pleasure to be there for my folks. So I had to retire a bit early to keep my sanity. I have been in my home 18 years and hope to be done in 3 years at the most 4. I can't pay as much extra to principal as I like each month because I am on a fixed income. I am thankful though and will not complain. I have some struggles with low mood especially since the loss of both of my parents. Self care comes first. I live in DC area where cost are higher. I know that some people aren’t going to like to hear this, but I pay my card in full every month and the points that are accumulated throughout the year doesn’t go to travel, flights, hotels, or shopping; etc. The points goes 💯 percent towards my mortgage. As a matter a fact, I save and put aside a full payment amount over the course 6 months or a year in a sinking fund, and then combine the cc points earned + the funds in the sinking fund and make a one time principal payment. Which is anywhere from $3,500-$4,500! Then do it all over again.

The process is working really well for me. I'm single, so its just one income and my only debt now is my home. By the grace of God, I'm hoping to have my mortgage paid off by the end of this year. $51k to go!!🙌🏽
