I’ve traveled to over 60 countries and try not to repeat vacation spots as there are so many more places to travel to. But when I went to Alaska in 2017, it was the first place that I told myself I could come back to again and never fail to enjoy it. And I’m so excited that I return this year! To change it up I chose a different ship and it has a slightly different itinerary so that’s great too. And in addition I booked different excursions. Needless to say I’m beyond excited! Thanks for your video, I enjoyed watching it!
Excellent commentary on the ports of call. So often travel, Vloggers spend and inordinate amount of time describing and talking about the ship. They ignore the actual ports of call that make up the destinations where the cruise ships are going. You’ve done a very good job describing the Alaskan towns that you visited and Victoria in Canada. Keep up the great work. Glad you had an outstanding time. 🌹
We were on the NCL Encore to Alaska to/from Seattle and loved it. Scagway was cancelled due to rockside thing. We were supposed to go to Sitka but it was very rainy and foggy so we elected to stay on the Encore. Our only complaint was the cruise was only 7 days/nights long. We plan on visiting Alaska in the future with a longer itinerary.
Your love of Alaska cruise is exactly what I have heard from everyone I know who has done it. I have not done it though I sailed on the official last cruise of the QE2 from New York to Quebec City and back. It was also beautiful with the extra treat of having crowds turn out everywhere to see the ship.
Excellent review of your cruise! I agree Alaska is by far the best cruise!! Next time be sure to include Mendenhall Glacier and a whale watching excursion in Juneau and pick an itinerary with Glacier Bay National Park and Ketchikan if at all possible! Thanks for the memories!
You had the most interesting experience. You've given me some wonderful and different ideas on what to do on my Alaskan cruise in May. Excellent content.
Thank you for your wonderful video. We have gone on 2 Alaska cruises and I feel I want to do another one roundtrip from Seattle. Both of ours started in Alaska with the last one taken June 2022 on RC. We did a land tour before getting on the ship in Seward and spent time at the end in Victoria. The first cruise in July 2004 We spent extra time in Anchorage before the cruise and then taking a train ride to Seward to board a Celebrity ship. Both cruises were one way cruises that ended in Victoria, B.C. Alaska is breathtaking to say the least!
I cruised, on carnival splendor last May, and when we went through icy straits, we couldn’t go to the whole way in for viewing, because there was too much ice and the captain announced we had to turn the ship around and leave because we didn’t wanna end up like the Titanic! We did have some very rough weather the first night with a 50 foot Rogue Wave and 2 40 foot waves that slamed the ship. Like you I had perfect weather in all three ports of Juno, Icy Straits, and Ketchikan. In fact the day in Ketchikan it got up to 72°! Alaska is a beautiful place and I’m going back in 2024 on Norwegian Bliss! Can’t wait!
If you are a fan of our national parks... You have to experience Alaska with Glacier Bay National Park in the itinerary! It's a day of sailing through glaciers! It's amazing! After sailing Alaska I realized what I want my first B2B to be... Northbound Alaska and then southbound Alaska!
RCCL chose not to cruise in Glacier Bay when they had won space in the competitive prospectus (which is for 10 years of entry). In order to enter Glacier Bay, ships must burn marine gas oil rather than bunker fuel (release of scrubber waste is not allowed) and to meet other environmental protection measures that the National Park Service is able to impose. You can read you own into why they turned down the premier Alaska attraction. Other cruise lines are willing to switch their engines over to marine gas oil as they approach the entrance to Glacier Bay. Note, they all go back to burning the dirtiest of marine fuels and dumping toxic scrubber waste with heavy metals and persistent chemicals into our waters as soon as they leave Glacier Bay, rather than complying with the IMO law limiting sulfur by burning cleaner fuel. Until cruise passengers start understanding what this means and the consequences of your choices to cruise on companies that willfully pollute Alaska waters (the cruise industry managed to get Congress to prohibit states from passing our own laws to restrict) and then push hard on the industry, including not cruising on ships burning heavy fuel oil/bunker fuel, then you are contributing to the pollution. Note that Disney Cruise Lines ship to Alaska does not burn heavy fuel oil and dump scrubber waste. The lone large cruise ships chosing to protect the environment.
We're taking Princess from San Francisco to Alaska at the end of June... I've booked excursions in three cities, but I think I am looking forward to Glacier Bay just as much, if not more!
I am glad you liked Alaska. I have been there many times and even worked there so I know you really did not see or do much there. You should go back and do a lot of research before going back because you missed a lot on your trip. I will be going back again in 2023 and I always find new things to do and see.
I cruised on RCCL out of Seattle to Alaska in June of 2016. The check-in queue was the same cluster that you experienced. The Seattle port check-in is by far the worst cruise experience I have ever endured. As much as I enjoyed the Alaska itinerary, the Seattle element is a huge deterrent for a repeat visit.
Been several times….my favorite excursion was taking the White Pass Railway up into the Yukon and meeting up there with a cycling tour that took us Thru the Canadian Border crossing on bikes 🚴 then a 15 mile downhill ride back to Downtown Skagway! Exhilarating!
Beautiful ! It looks so far from here in France. I wonder if the Mediterranean sea or the Northern fjords of Europe seem as exotic to you that Carribean or Alaska for us :-)
I wouldn't risk it. NEXUS specifically says land crossing only. We live in WA, cross border all the time and we have enhanced licenses for this reason but only for land crossings. US Border patrol has no compunction about pulling you aside for a 45 minute lecture regarding official paperwork. Although legally if you can prove you are a US citizen, they cannot deny you re-entry back to USA. They just make it the worst experience of your life. Bring your US passport and/or official Birth Certificate with government ID for water crossings.
Great video Cruzley, I tend to disagree that it is much less expensive to cruise the Carribean than Alaska. I consider myself a bargain hunter and can often score great vacation bargains. While I'm not a travel agent, I tend to do much research and price comparison when shopping for cruises, including calculating travel expenses. In reality, it is just as expensive for a traveler from a Midwest state for airfare and cruise costs to cruise to Alaska for a seven-day cruise as it is for the same traveler to cruise out of Florida or Texas, for a 7-day Caribbean cruise. The only exception would be for a cruiser living in Florida planning to cruise on a 7-day Carribean cruise verses cruising on a 7-day Alaskan Cruise. If a cruiser resides in a midwest state the cruiser has to figure that if they plan on driving their car to the port, they will need to figure their travel expenses in. Including maintenance, repairs and the cost for housing a vehicle in the secured port parking lot. Since it is fifteen hundred miles or more to either Florida, Texas, Washington State or Vancouver Canada, one way travel costs can add up very quickly and cost just as much as a round trip ticket on an airline. As a solo traveler, I have found that it can be just as expensive, if not a little higher to book a solo cabin verses booking a standard cabin. I have actually found that I receive a better rate booking a standard cabin than a solo cabin.
Entering and "self-touring" City Hall (or most government buildings, really) isn't an issue. You should be able to do that in your home town. It's just that few people care to, is all. They are public buildings, after all.

I love Victoria BC, we used to go there when I was in the Navy. Many awesome memories of that place
You are right about Alaska. I cruised there before the pandemic. It truly is a sight to see. It's amazing. I hope to cruise there again soon.

Wow! You've convinced me to book an Alaskan cruise!
Many thanks!

After seeing your video I am envious of you. Lol! I can't afford to take that trip but it was lovely to see it through your eyes. Thankyou.
Going on my first Alaskan cruise in October! Ncl encore. So excited!

That sounds great. I only wish Alaskan cruises were priced like Caribbean.
@@Cruzelycom Aren't they. I found 7 day cruises with Norwegian Spirit for 349pp

I agree, my most memorable also!!!! Just amazing. 😊
Wonderful video. Alaska is definitely on our list. The Quantum of the seas looks amazing. Can’t wait.🎉
I am glad you mentioned the panning for gold. I decided not to do it when I go.
We cruised in May and June 2018 the only rain we got was 30 minutes in Ketchikan and it was warm and sunny, The best cruise we have been out of 14
I have an obstructed balcony booked for my June cruise … 😬🫣
This is a great post. You did a great job.
My mind would just be playing my heart will go on 😂
Dude awesome video. I'm planning an Alaska cruise next year. The scenery looks awesome!!
It's the best I've ever seen. Nothing like it.

Hello, Thanks for the video! We will be cruising to Alaska the end of May. How should we package? I’m excited about going to Alaska.
We are booked for this coming May on Discovery Princess... Do you have any packing suggestions???
Try the inland tour with Princess...then you see Alaska!
Another GREAT video!!!

It was strange because I asked some of the staff if the lines were unusual. They gave the impression that it completely normal.
What do you think are the best options in Skagway to do

You mentioned bad weather on sea days. Were the seas rough?

Hi from UK. I want to go to Alaska with my 12 year old. What is the best line and itinerary for a one off trip please?
When is the best time to see the Northern lights Aurora borealis?
2:38 haha
That was funny bro
I’ve been on quantum but I’m Australia 🇦🇺 (my home country)
Anyone know if at Victoria BC (or other Canadian ports of call) one can use NEXUS / Global Entry instead of the regular passport lanes?

Use deck plan map to case out obstructed view
What floor were you on?
You'd easily go further north if you go to Iceland ;) but I'd still cruise to Alaska
