This was amazing to hear! I sold my 2000 RS to my daughter with the condition I have first rights buy it back. It only had 94k miles in 2012. Regretted every day I saw her drive home and the car deteriorated before my eyes. Eventually bought it back from her 5 years later with 146k and the entire car peeling clearcoat like she drove it through a volcano. I’m In the process of rebuilding it to its previous glory. She to approached me about 6 months ago wanting the car back. Nah...never letting it go.
I remember sitting in a 2.5 RS at the LA Auto Show back in '98. Rally Blue with gold wheels. I still think the GC8 was just about perfect. You're a good Dad, Bucky... 👍
FINALLY! Honestly after hearing the story... I am SO glad that she decided to drive your truck instead! It's a beautiful car, man. Even more badass that you put all the work in on her! Nice video yet again!
Seibon parts?! Wish my dad was able to afford that when I bought my 1st car at 16! I couldn’t even get my dad to co-sign for my car that was only $3,000. I had to work 2 shitty jobs to get it. I rode my bike to one, and rode the bus to the other. You’re very fortunate! But I did get to drive to my skatepark on the day that Bucky and a couple of his mates skated a demo! I’ll never forget it! Cheers 👍🏼
This low key my favorite car channel. It’s sort of Rob Dahm-esque with it’s just bare bones honesty and actually showing people work on cars. Also, I’m really missing worldRX. I was so amped for GCK’s new line-up (Andreas and Doran) and Johan being back.
My oldest daughter was the same way. You have to understand that the RS was the first car that daddy got her. She wants it to stay in the family or with her. Sentimental.
Awesome work and awesome car. I watched the built not bought series and it was awesome to see the journey. I started looking for some 2 door subie but couldn't find anything near me, but I'm going to keep my eyes peeled. That's one hell of a project and I can only imagine what it is like to drive one.
You're an awesome dad, and I would keep that car until the day I died... She probably realized how much personality the car had AFTER she grew up and realized that not all vehicles are the same. Especially ones that have been built and cared for. Sometimes kids don't realize what's cool until they grow up. A lot like myself with the music my parents listened to as I grew up..
Nice video, i didn't knew this channel, but now im subscribing, the first intention of giving this beautyful car to your daughter was cute but, now with that time that has come through i think this car belongs only to you! keep it man, cheers.
As a father of 17year old twins AND as a Subaru maniac for decades now... What to do? Wanna let my Kidz drive with confidence, fun and safe. So, I'm gonna buy two other subis? Or let them drive mine... It is good to hear your true words about being a father, bucky! And we all know that we share the same problems... Peace and greetz from Germany! 🤘🏻
Dad does something nice for kid, Dad enjoys the process, tries to share with kid. Kid doesn't have the perspective to see what Dad did. I feel you Bucky.
My best friend, bought a 2001 RS 4 door new, the day after Christmas. I was with him. Best car he ever had! I regret not buying one. I finally wised up, rocking in a 2018 Impreza sport sedan. I hope to pas it to my 4yr old girl when she turns 16. Your daughter is very blessed, and you built a very nice car!
Skateboarders always assembled their own skateboards. It makes sense the pros went on to not wanting super cars but building dream Subies they wanted from 90s.
I can’t explain how blessed I feel to have a 99 coupe rs as my first car...and my first project car. Me and my dad bought one off craigslist and are in the process of fully restoring it to its full beauty. It’s got a spray can paint job too and a motor and transmission on its last leg. However that’s good because I get the chance to sti swap it to an ej207 with a six speed. So far we’ve lifted it (because Montana weather is a bitch) and also done the full interior detailing and new stereo. I can’t wait to see the project finished😁
Incredible gift man, kudos to you for giving such and amazing gift to you daughter and also to you daughter for loving this kind of car. Most people would think that with the money that you have she would ask for something much expensive. Great way to educate your children and show them the value of hard work. Can't wait to seeing both of you working on the new subie.
Super clean car man i love it, i wish there were more 2.5 RS's in the usa since we never got the older WRX models cause i gotta say a 1990's world rally blue impreza is definitely a site to behold.
One of my biggest regrets in life was selling mine. Those cars just feel special. Great video. Love that you are reminding people how awesome the GC8 is.
I got a 2001 Focus ZX3 when I was 16... my main rival at autox drove a 2.5RS and I could never quite beat him. Sold my focus last year to a friend's nephew after fixing it up!
Absolutely love all the content brother and please keep it coming! I'm sad I watched all your videos bc now I have to wait patiently for the next one lol.
Man, if I was gifted a 99' 2.5 RS I'd be stoked. They're hard to come by these days, especially a nice one like that. Honestly, other than the unobtainable 22B, the 2.5 RS is like my holy grail car to own. One day, hopefully, I will.
This was my first car, GC8 99 in rally blue pearl, I think the color code was 74F. I replaced it with a '05 LegacyGT 3 years later. I loved the Legacy more but the impreza was way more fun and what got me into the love for cars.
I was catching up on Built Not Bought and this car really caught my eye in the background. Cool story and amazing job restoring the car! You should save it for her and give it back when she's had more driving experience and you feel like she'll really appreciate it. Like after dailying a manual and not crashing for a few years perhaps.
One of my all time favorites. I want one so bad. This was supposed to be my first "new" car but I lost my job right before I bought one back in 2000. Still want one though I think it's one of the Nicest body Subaru has ever made.
Yup I hear you on the flavor of the month thing. Give her the option to learn to drive it well, then we'll talk about the swap. My daughter learned on a 5 speed 03 Forester. Once she got the chance to drive it on her own without dad watching every move she settled in nicely. Worst parts were riding shotgun with her missing 3rd for 1st lol. Fortunately the engine lived, clutch recently replaced after 2 years of her driving it (plus maybe 4 of mine before). She did well.

Thanks for this vlog, I love this model. First Subaru model I fell in love with as a kid in middle school. My P.E teacher in 7th grade bought this car. I was stoked to find out how cool she really is, lol. Never got the one of my dreams but... its still a Subaru ( 07 WRX). And no it's not stock or nearly as clean as yours 🤣
2.5 RS is what got me back into a Subaru. I would drive by one on my way to work each day and say to myself "I need one of those". I ended up with a Impreza GT instead. Still the RS catches my eye.
When you drove for Subaru i never knew what to think of you. Skater turned racer... since finding your channel here on UA-cam ive found great admiration for you and would like to see you do some rallys in the future. Keep up the great content and all the awesome stuff on the gc8s . Stay healthy

I just can't decide between the stock Acadia green or the jdm blue steel, the blue steel looks absolutely gorgeous but the green is growing on me. Keep up the great content and keep whipping these amazing cars.

I liked the end of the vid too. It was like... parent mode, engage.
Sal Esposito Haha, yeah I don’t really like body work either but since I know how to do it I just get after it any way. I still have my truck but both my girls have had their ways with it at this point and it’s tired 😂
Poor truck lol. I'm not sure I believe you on the bodywork. You looked pretty excited getting after it on the Buck'it. 😉
Sal Esposito Well that was different and a widebody kit, something I was really excited about🤘🏼😜🤘🏼
OK. I'll buy that. I've thought about it enough on my own STI.
ive always wanted an RS that would've been so devastating to see it in an accident, glad to see it was spared and she was safer in the f-150. if its ever a sell option i'd love to buy it!!!
