This is a quick video showcasing the mechanical watch I bought on ebay a few weeks ago for $20. You can get it very easily and cheaply, just search "mechanical watch" on ebay and you'll find it along with many others. If you have patience, it can be had for around $12. You just have to put up with a 2 to 4 week shipping time. I have a link to the actual product I purchased, but it is no longer available on that page. The purpose of this video is twofold: one, it show's the watch operating, and two gives my overall impression of how well it works.
Unfortunately mine varied slightly from the watch in the description, but it is not a problem for me. I say unfortunately because I suspect that many of these types of watches will have small variations between how they actually look and the pictures online.
Overall, I'm extremely happy with it. I was expecting way less for how much this cost, and the quality of the construction and its accuracy just blow me away.

This is a movement called a Chinese Standard Movement(CSM). I got one in pocketwatch form for just over 8 euros. I loved it so much I bought 2 more and then learned how to dismantle them. There are loads of youtube videos showing you how. I still haven't got to completely take one apart and re-assemble yet but I'm getting there. The movements are cheap enough if you screw up. They are really reliable even if low grade parts are used. (the AK47 of watches:)
My next project will be to add some tiny LEDs to the inside so as to have the only light up mechanical pocket watch I know of.
If you use LEDs it would need batteries though..
Maybe a couple of flints rubbing together with acetylene lighting :-)
From what I’ve seen, this is the first video you actually talk.
I'm guessing this uses the Chinese Standard Movement, do you know? Usually mechanicals this cheap do, as there's no research cost in implementing it (they made it back in the day for a cheap watch for laborors, now it's free to use)
Synthetic rubies for watches aren't expensive at all by the way.

i was looking at this watch on amazon and was considering buying it but once i saw the movement in your video i had to have it! for about $12 including shipping its a great deal on a neat mechanical watch. pictures don't do it justice, thanks for the video!
I ordered one for $10 on Ebay today. It looks like that one but its white and blue. I can't wait!
If you want a good quality, cheap automatic then get a seiko 5. Can't beat it for the price.
Seiko 5 is not so good, you can't wind it manually

Melon you can buy Sandoz, Citizen or cheap mechanical from China. For instance, I keep Citizen one Citizen lady watch, they use 6900 movt. SANDOZ uses eta 2783 or higher grade movt. HERE, in Hong Kong, may be the rent go up and up, cheap watch goes up.

+Melon the retailers made price up and up. I bought four pieces for HK$9, others ask for 14.5 or even 23.
The problem is some people come from China for goods, because milk in China made them too scared. But, in my view, the milk products at first with foreign investor New Zealous. The milk farm added Melamine particles in the milk products which made it tested with more protein. As the farmers knew nothing about Melamine would cause blockages in kidneys of Children. The New Zealand investors at once retreated. And left behind the milk factory owners had to be punished and lady was executed for not keep milk products in heathy conditions.
I think New Zealand is a big big producer and why they went to China. The problem is, NZ wishes to break down China reputation. Now, no milk products exported to world.

I got one on Amazon $14 same basic watch but fancier, get compliments but its hard to wind , which must be done every 12 hours or it stops . Keeps good time as long as you keep it wound.

I'm not sure if its the exact same one, but I just found a mechanical watch on ebay for $3.50, free shipping. Pretty dang good deal if you ask me!
I have a watch with the exact same movement with that. it's branded as Ouyawei. got it for about $19.
Just a note. Most watch rubies are synthetic anyway. So they're not uber expensive.
May I ask how many winds or revolutions for the watch to do a 24 hours run?

I reviewed mine too :), that being said, the COST of a watch is not in the rubies, it's in the fact there not waterproof/resistant. This is were the drop lots of the cost already.
The rubies are the pallets on the on the pallet arm

I would think most would have suspected synthetic rubies, if not drops of red enamel on brass. Besides in a product $12-$20 synthetic rubies are probably good enough
Just bought 2 watches for $12 the pair from DealExtreme .
It says 17 KAMHEN on the dial which means 17 Jewels in lingo.
I'm sure they would be very artificial!
