The sex PISStols were forced together in 1977 and the Ramones (where the Bad Brains got their name off of the Ramones fourth studio album) play more of a poppy bop bop dirty greaser type of style, the misfits were coming with the Horror Business, Black Flag was in infantry with Keith Morris at the helm, the death of Sid Vicious, the rise of New Wave, and THEN...... There was the Bad Brains who I believe were first known as Mind Power, I dunno Google it, I'm remembering from zines and album inserts....Yes there was this the Bad Brains the most powerful and important band to come together and be what they were, the most unique undescribable power they played with is unmatched to this day. They don't get the notoriety for playing "punk rock" but they easily could have made a hit reggae or mainstream album yet they didn't and are still known by basically every musician without being on a major record label. We got that ATTITUDE.
For all you that are young and into punk, bow down and give thanks and praises to these punk rockers, it oozes out of HRs pores and the music is way ahead of it's time as far as laying foundations for hardcore music to follow, great video and always great music Bad Brains, many blessings

The best hardcore music ever made. That bad brains album blew me apart , and reconstructed me into a completely different person. Freshman year memories.

Just listen, it's all there. Incredible. It's a given HR is in a league of his own but listen to the rest of the band, what a sound, Dr Know's guitar work...!!!
Amazing... thank you for giving us this glimpse into one of the greatest band of all time's history. so electric! the progression between this concert and the CBGB's 1982 is also incredible. Give thanks!!!!!
This what I wished punk was like as teen, a bunch of misfits and abnormal young weirdos just freaking on the dance floor. And don’t get me wrong I saw a lot of good punk rock that sounded just like it, or near enough. Unfortunately when I was a kid in the 90’s, the Hessian mosh shit was the only way you could get physical like just another bash and smash football game. I guess it was a West Coast thing bc Fugazi a massively sold out show in Fall of 1990, stopped their set numerous times because of what they we’re witnessing as “pit violence “ except there were two pits the skinhead (violent pit) full of gorillas and the punk pit (moderately violent but more conscientiously so, like if you were knocked down random strangers would pick you up and throw you back in) Fugazi had a big problem with the former and called the gorillas out on their violence that most kids didn’t want a part of. They were from DC same place as BAd Brains where I’d discover the style was much more individualized skanking like the awesome dancing the singer does here. It took me another couple years with visits to the emergency room with a family member and a friend 2different times to Boulder Community Hospital. And doorman from the punk club explaining how this kind of violence doesn’t happen on the East Coast which only consisted of NY Philly and DC at that point. I think that’s when I realized the music world is bigger than Boulder and you can dance any way you want even if the jocks point and heckle, as long as you are having a good time. But I wasn’t a good dancer, so I just stood in place still enjoying the bands. But there were a few cool people that did their own dance. They were the tuff ones in the end and didn’t have to smash someone physically weaker to prove it.
2,558 now, five years later! Still not enough considering how awesome they were. CBGB gigs on here are mental, pure chaos. Bad brains could play through a hurricane and keep going.
It's normal for whites to imitate black music However it is unusual white music Moreover it is the highest level in the hardcore punk scene I watch Bad Brains universally
Rahul Bery I wanna say in 1980. That's when I believe they went and saw Bob Marley and were heavily influenced. Then the dreads and reggae came in full force.
There’s a reggae song during the end credits. Another big change was the crowd. By ‘82 the hardcore fashion show takes over the stage and there’s no room for H.R.’a antics.
this footage is beyond legendary...suits and all. Incredible.
Especially that beer can
Right? It's hard to believe until you see it.
The suit was a sick look

Absolutely incredible! HR has got to be one of the best frontman in the history of music
His moves are incredible

Same - an existential paradigm shift #BlackDots
Best band on planet Earth- or anywhere else!
Pound for pound, without equal! the greatest!
This is the best BAD BRAINS video I've seen. Its early, before the dreadlocks. The energy was high!!!
And before "slam dancing " and "stage diving".
When everybody(!!!) could just groove and dance .
One the best bands of all time
Note the relaxed pace of “I”. Wow. Almost a different song!
Their tunes swung hard in '79
The Greatest band that ever was or ever will be..fullstop.
Rock for light changed my youth. Bad Brains best band ever!
Their live as album is a production masterpiece, including a version of The Beatles "Day Tripper".

Very interesting history, personal and communal.
The mosh pit always struck me as insane - in a bad way
Hopefully the original film still exists and can be restored
I was born in 79 .. what a great year
Rock-n-Roll in its essential purity.
So glad this footage exist
Wow! Absolutely the best ever!
imagine being there, damn
Same
I knew Elvis wasn't dead. He went punk. Makes perfect sense.
HR was Elvis inspired , your not wrong
More like Glenn Danzig
wish someone would release a remastered version of this, still not complaining having it here is good enough
Que talento ! Grandes
one of my favorites, not of live performances but videos in general.
410 views! really? blows my mind every time! most under rated band of all time!

fucking incredible the best hardcore band that ever existed.
Remarkable. Late.. PUNK. The 'scene' was soooooo much less chaotic. You could also hear him better..
11:44-11:48 hr sounds like a kill switch on bucket heads guitar.
Fantastic footage, love it. Had a Kassette Tape of this in 1981
Thanks so very much for posting this. This is incredible footage!
Incredible. Bad brains and chuck , 2 saviours of rock and roll. The ramones and the beatles in between :)
Epic 🔥
Perfect... Just perfect....

The dawn of Hardcore
where the f was i? Maybe I wasn't even aware of them in 79.
Massively important footage.
We played there! Miss that place
Playing all the wonderful new gear that was stolen in their new van .
this is fucking real, thanks
You wouldn’t have heavy music if it wasn’t for these guys.
The regulator is my favorite out of all of these

so they were still dressing like this and not playing reggae in '79? When did they go rastafarian? Tbh and imho this is a much better look!

They were into reggae already but the look came after like 80 onwards
