seems like mathematical korvais like Karnataka sangeetha. A very laya oriented presentation. There is no gap -- just relentless at such an advanced age! that is some feat. 20 mins of Mansur is like 80 mins for others.. So much information packed and ceaseless; I'm told that he enjoyed puffing out beedis often!!
@Devansh Phadke, thank you so much for posting this amazing video recording of what must have been an absolutely exhilarating mehfil at the Naralkar residence in Pune. The energy with which Mansur ji has sung and the way in which he has made effortless the complexity embedded in Khat is just exquisite. So interesting to see young Veena Tai trying to follow Mansur ji and the presence of numerous close friends and admirers of Mansur ji have added a rare appeal to this rendition. I am currently working on a biography of Mansur ji and am keen to reach out to admirers of his music in order to have meaningful conversations about aspects of his gayaki, repertoire and unique contribution to Hindustani music. In addition, I would greatly appreciate if anyone has any leads about materials such as photographs, letters, programme brochures and other tangible items related to Mansur ji's legacy. P.S.: I would be in Pune during 7-12 April 2023 and would be delighted to meet anyone from the Naralkar family and others who might have attended mehfils such as this one by Mansur ji over the years in Pune. 🙂
What a performance - a deserving audience too! The ease with which Panditji sang is mesmerizing. Was fortunate to have attended one of his live concert in Kolhapur and treasure his autograph taken at the same concert. A true “Tapasvi”. 🙇♂️
Yes, she is definitely Veena Sahasrabuddhe accompanying him. On Harmonium, we spot young, bearded dude, Arvind Thatte. I strongly feel the person exactly opposite to Mansur ji, is PLD and to his RHS is Vasantrao Deshpande. One can also identify Sunitabai from her spectacle frame, sitting behind PLD. The Maifal seems to have taken place in Pune. Man, this video is a GEM!! Thank you SO MUCH!!
@@devanshphadke See. This Bandish is sung this way, Taal Pradhan, ONLY by Mansur. Not to compare, but if we listen to Kesarbai's recording, that is entirely different flavor that she presents during her rendering. Hers is majorly Bhaav-Pradhaan. One encounters numerous descriptions of such soulful private baithaks in PL's writings - meant for discerning dardis, in a close knit heart-to-heart musical conversation. Cannot thank you enough for sharing a slice of that cultural history. Panditji is in his element. If only someone could share the full mehfil.

See what the poet Ashok Vajpayee Ji writes about Mansur - ‘अपनी रफ्तार से चलते हुए बहुत बाद में आते हैं मल्लिकार्जुन मंसूर और समय से आगे निकल जाते हैं अपने लिए कुछ नहीं बटोरते उनके सन्त-हाथ सिर्फ लुटाते चलते हैं सब कुछ गुनगुनाते चलते हैं पंखुरी-पंखुरी सारा संसार ईश्वर आ रहा होता घूमने इसी रास्ते तो पहचान न पाता कि वह स्वयं है या कि मल्लिकार्जुन मंसूर’

See what the poet Ashok Vajpayee Ji writes about Mansur -
The poem by Ashok Vajpayee captures the spirit of Pt Mallikarjun Mansur in the most perfect manner. Is it originally in English or Hindi ?
