Just purchased Ozone in the last days... i know it's a great weapon but power is nothing without control. So thank you very much, for giving a quick and so on the point overview! All love!
I really prefer the Mastering Assistant in Ozone 9. I found that, for me, MA in O9 simply balances the frequency and sets the limiter where you tell it to (low, mid, or high intensity). But O10 throws all the new modules into it and is more like a HYPE Assistant. Especially if you keep the Impact module on. Just sounds harsh and crunchy to me. I compared the same song in both O9 and O10 mastering assistants and found that if I turn off Impact and Imager then it's very close to what O9 suggests...but not exact. The EQ curves are similar, but the EQ curve in O10 is taking into account the fact that Stabilizer is also doing some work. I don't know...I liked using the MA in O9 to give me a good frequency balance, and then I would finalize that with a Pink Noise setting in the Match EQ before going into the limiter, where I would set the level myself. I feel like O10 MA is just over-cooking too much and that's dangerous because then a lot of people will start releasing music online using this. We don't need MORE hype, rather we need LESS in our masters. I wish they somehow incorporated a Legacy option in the O10 MA. Thankfully I can still use O9.
Also prefer using the interface stand-alone and not having to use it as a plug-in within a DAW. Also, anyone else think the track he's using in this vid has too much saturation on it to begin with? Literally everything is distorting
@wtfaulkner yep sounds like someone went heavy on a tape saturator. Doesn't do much for the track imo, and there's nothing to be done about it at the mastering stage 🤷🏻♂️ rolling off the bottom end did help a lot
Thinking of Impact as a 4 band graphic EQ has revolutionised my usage of it. Makes so much sense. I also generally find stabiliser better when cutting. Great video
Finally!! A full length video again! Thanks matey 😎 - more of this please (even though iirc Shorts provide for ad revenue and algorithmic exposure on UA-cam atm)
Thanks Streaky. I was thinking of buying this mastering software, but I didn't realize how Nerdy it was to use. Your demonstration has given me second thoughts about purchasing it. As a singer-songwriter and a person on a limited budget, I am always looking for software that is affordable and easy to use. I am sure I could master this Mastering software, but I think I will look around more before deciding to purchase this software. There are a lot of these Mastering software programs out there. In the past I have used a combination of Protools plugins and then Audacity's free software to "master" my songs.
@@squattermelon. I installed the Trial version and yes, it was pretty easy to use. And it is intuitive. And like you said a bit expensive; $249 for the Standard version and 400 + dollars for the Advanced. I will start saving some money up.
Hi streaky I see you used 0.1db ceiling on maximizer/limiter , do you still use the -1.0db on the fader of record track for streaming distribution ? I remember saw that on one of your previous videos.
Streaky bro, if u see this u have genuinely helped me so much with this video. My master kept coming out really nice on everything except earphones where the vocals were super loud and the bass was quiet. Just spent a while going thru this video and brooo u have sorted me out I was gunna give up and just send him the master that sounded quiet on earphones but this one’s perfect!!! Thank u bro I’ll defo be checking out ur content more
Nice video and explanation. However I would not say that any type of mastering preset will get the song 80% mastered because every mix is different and might need different mastering approach if one wants to get the best possible result (which might not be the aim of many people).
Thank you for this tutorial on Ozone. I have the following question. Is it better to use Ozone on the finished mixed down master track like in your example or in the main bus when mixing your tracks? Thanks.
Good walkthrough. Nice to see your process with the updated and new modules. Yeah, I initially it was crushing the low end with limiter distortion until you mentioned the track itself is quite smashed. Thanks for the vid.
Hi man, nice tutorial! I have an issue with stabilizer: in an extended mix of melodic techno song I hear artifacts that ruin the initial kick in the song, despite I do automatic mastering setting by AI of Ozone. Second thing: is possible choose singles module on Ozone and use a AI automatic settings each module? Thank you advance!!
people that hate on this dont understand the fact that ozone's A.I is only a tool and should be used as a reference and then make a few mods to where you need it fit always still trust your ear first if your room is treated as well as do all tests to check your mix... a.i is meant to help us not take over...
THanks for the video! : ) Just curious, at about 23.15, why is the rms meter in ozone showing 4-7 when your other meter shows around 8? Is the latter more doing an average kind of metering?
Hi Streaky. Awesome Video Idea: Fundamentals and how to affect them and why everything falls in place when starting at the fundamentals and going up to the harmonics later on. Please also discuss dependencies between frequency ranges
Hey Streaky, excelente conteúdo amigo, obrigado. Consegui aprender um pouco mais sobre o Maximizer, algo que eu não entendia muito bem como funcionava. Vou fazer o download do seu preset para testar aqui. Obrigado pela dica!!!
Hi streaky just subscribed would you use only ozone for mastering or Fabfilter EQs as well don’t no one which to pick up or both? many thanks looking forward to your videos.
The original file (mix) sound distorted and a too much bit crunchy. I as always say, if garbage sound in garbage sound out. Mastering cant' solve or improve a bad sound or/in a bad mix , ony can make up. This video show clearly this.
14:07 I've heard a lot of people saying that I should have a -1db ceiling when mastering for streaming platforms to prevent distortion and stuff. Im curious, why did you put the ceiling at -0.1? 🤔
Maybe I'm missing something, it appears the Streaky Starter won't load in Ozone 11. Preset formats moved from .xml to .aupreset in the new version. And changing the handler doesn't do the trick.
Hey Streaky!! Great video!!! I gotta question about using the TC meter to monitor the LUFS. I’m feeding it from my focusrite.. controled by the monitor knob, do I put it at max volume into the meter? Sometimes , alotta times it peaks!! How do I get a full signal into the meter? (Going in Thru the RCA adapter) 🙏🏾 thank you for your content!!! @streaky
THANK YOU for your videos my man !!! BEEN MASTERING THE OLD SCHOOL WAY I LEARNED BACK IN THE DAY SO IM HAVING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO MASTER FOR STUPID STREAMING SERVICES IM LIKE YOU , U SAID IN THAT 1 VID ITS RUBBISH I LIKE HAVING MY MASTERS IN THE -8 LUF RANGER , SOUNDING GREAT LIKE A RECORD SHOULD !!! ALL THIS HAVING TO CONFORM TO THIS NEW WAY SUCKS
Is there any in depth video on true peaking?? I've always thought that the -1 dB "Rule" kinda kills my mix but I'm curious if I set the true peak to like -0.2 is it going to distort on streaming platforms or something??
Just do it. It's fine. If professional mastering engineers have 0.1 as a ceiling WITHOUT truePeak limiting, you can have 0.2 as a ceiling and don't have to worry (especially if you decide to use truePeak limiting instead of conventional limiting)
Stupid question. Which is better - to mix down a track and then import the audio file into a new session with Ozone on the master. Or just have Ozone on the master in the mix so you can live adjust the mix. The latter seems more flexible?
Export so your brain goes into mastering mode you can always go back and bounce another mix if you really need to…but try and be disciplined to finish the mix and move to the next step

Hello sir, if I’m using a compressor in this chain should I put it before or after the imager ? Thanks in advance for your assistance 🙏🏿
Can this application process be applied to House/Techno/Electronic/EDM music?
thanks for your great content!
Can I just ask, why did you use a low shelf rather than a high pass with a tighter (24 db) slope?
Brilliant And informative video .. thank you🎉
Great video, fun song, wanna listen the entire track

All good advice! Love it.
Really informative video. Thanks for sharing!
Are the tracks set at -6db before you go into ozone and meter?
Thanks Streaky, I would love to see your approach to country pop.
Which version of Ozone are you using for this demo? Elements, standard, or Advanced?

Will the pre-set work on Ozone 10 standard? and also why do you record on a separate track?
