Lovely figure. The alt modes work surprisingly well given their diversity, and robot mode is nice too. Excellent piece of engineering on Unique Toys' end.
+Benscollectables It isn't unusual for the front axle of a trailer tandem to not touch the ground. It's called a "tag axle", and can be raised or lowered depending on the load. When the trailer/tanker is empty, the tag is often raised to make cornering easier.
1. trucks tend to have larger wheels than cars. 2. there is no way a Brawn in his jeep mode can have a jeep ceiling that is almost as tall as the tanker itself. 3. Aren't the cab section of tanker trucks able to swivel side to side from the tanker and not be static and attached to the tanker as one continuous vehicle? These thoughts above make the truck mode seem rather weak to me, especially if they are really going for masterpiece quality. That being said, engineering in this figure is frankly very good. Thanks for another detailed review Ben. :)
Makes me think with Classics you could get a sort of sort of Three Stooges or Good Feathers vibe with the Triple Changers. Blitzwing being the shortest could have a napoleon complex, also the gun barrel on his back to compensate for his height. Blitzwing being the short loudmouth, Octane as the put upon guy caught in the middle and Astrotrain as the big lug.
Great review as always. I like the look of all three modes, and think that Unique Toys did a great job. They've come a long way from Warlord,Sharkies,Maniaking,Soundmixer,Abominus and now this triple-changer. They are easily THE most improved third-party company, that actually listen to the fans , and thus , have produced well made figures. Some QC here and there which varies from person to person, but still very well made and engineered figures. But now I see that KFC has shown their version of Octane,it could tip the scale to them. I think either one would do well in anyone's collection.
I completely agree Antoine , so impress with UT as a company they have come on leaps and bounds but I think it sets a standard that all 3rd party's need to keep improving to keep the fans from going to the oppositions :)
It's a great figure, might get him because the Hasbro Octane is an eyesore. It's not meant to be a MP figure, they make CHUG figures, that Astrotrain in your vid is meant for MP. The one comparison i was waiting for in it's truck mode is Classics Prime. How do they scale?
That figure does scale properly even with Chigur remember Astro train robot mode was slightly taller than star scream in the animation. A good screen to use is the first transformers movie, the one that introduced unicron galvatron and all the rest
But that's the scale in robot mode that takara used in the masterpiece line I agree this figure is a little shorter than the animation model but it's still pretty freaking cool
+Paul Price if you remember in the movie when astrotrain is carrying the decepticons away from the battle and soundwave and constructicons start arguing who should be leader and constructicons go to combine in to devastator inside astrotrain point made scale does not matter
+Lee Swift that's why I said in robot mode. robot mode is the scale takara uses. like Ben always says until they can figure out a way to have toys mass shift then bot mode is the scale used. I know no toy of astro train can hold a toy of devastator
Great review! This mold of of octane is too small, I respect the fact that most G1 G2 fans feel that he should be in scale with the likes of sandstorm, but sandstorm was a sandcomber and helicopter and octane was a jumbo jet and oil tanker, he should actually be bigger than astrotrain. I will wait for the next company's attemp at octane, again great review!
The tail of the jet mode needs a vertical stabilizer, it has too much going for it not to have one, and without a vertical stabilizer the jet mode just doesn't look right, so hopefully Unique toys recognizes and addresses that.
You failed to mention any sort of show- or toy-accuracy for the alt modes. Don't you think that's important? Especially since the truck doesn't look anything like it should.
When watching Peaugh's review of this, it has the exact same marks at the side of the chromed grill?? And the same gap between grill and bonnet? Makes me wonder - Did you guys review the exact same figure, or is it a production "error"/flaw in all models?
I think this is the problem with trying to please too many people. They want to address the Masterpiece fandom, as well as the CHUG fandom, and Octane here is a perfect example of being trapped in the middle of all that. I get why people feel he's Masterpiece level, detail and all that, but I feel he's a CHUG figure, honestly. Yes, he's a bit taller than most, roughly an Ultra Class, but that works, honestly. Hasbro's been known to change their figure scales to make a figure happen, so why can't Unique Toys? I thought he looked really good next to Springer and I felt that his size actually made sense, honestly. He scaled really well with CW and RID, and I think he'd do better in that collection. Price point seems to agree with me. Most 3rd party MPs tend to go for $150.00 + and this guy is the usual 3rd party Voyager/Ultra Class price point of $120.00 or less. Not trying to be a pain, but you're never going to be able to convince me that he belongs in a Masterpiece collection. It just doesn't work.
These companies really shoot themselves and the fans in the foot when they don't offer variety of scales of the same figure. If he was as tall as dx9 chigurh I'd be on Deck with this one. I really hate missing out on such a wonderfully brilliant sculpt.
This is a well engineered figure that deserves to sell well but Jesus those wings in robot mode. It's totally acceptable and I really can't see how they could have the wings swing up and not have them at risk of unpegging and cracking themselves on a shelf but just Jesus.
Great review as always, Ben! Oh boy that plane mode is delicious!! I think if the robot mode had a slightly bigger head and arms it would be perfect; the scale is great for classics, not that much for MP. That said... the engineering on this figure is gold!! :D love it!
like the character, like the plane mode, not so much the truck or bot mode. if the wings were a bit higher up in bot mode it might of won me over, as it is it kinda looks a little off for me any way
I somehow feel that the head is either too wide or too squished from the front, similar to KFC Citizen Stack's head issue. Would you say that's the case too? Other than that this figure is superb
+Benscollectables Hello from France, The ROBOT MODE and PLANE MODE are really good but the TRUCK MODE is not accurate, the rear wheels of the truck are missing, this why the truck look weird Thank for your reviews, can't wait your review for MP RAMJET and SHOCKWAVE
Thanks so much for skipping parts of the transformation that are the same on both sides. It's so boring to see reviewers do transformations that are identical! haha As for not-Octane, I agree with your review in that his alt modes and the general engineering and quality of the figure are definitely amazing, but his bot mode is just boring to me. It's not a knock against Unique Toys, since they made a good looking Octane, but I was just never much of a fan of his bot mode design in general. I would like to see a company like Maketoys take a stab at some triple changers, since they are usually less concerned with G1-accuracy and tend to push designs forward.
Yes that's my thoughts I've always believed the Mp scale is bot related , Takara for example are to excited to get vehicles to fit in primes trailer to make them scale correctly :) bumblebees wheel axis should be wider etc
+Benscollectables like you've said until mass shifting can be used in toys than they won't totally scale like in the cartoons. there's no way a proper scale megatron can be made because the robots hold him in gun mode but in robot mode he's taller than almost all decpticons
maybe MP-10 and ,if you have him, Toyworld Evila Star? p.s. I love the look of him. if someone's selling him at BotCon next year, i'll probably get him
that's ok. I have MP-10 too, so it'd help to see him with Provider. i'll probably just get both Provider and Evila Star at BotCon if they're there. thanks for replying. big fan of your reviews.
Can't understand why they made octane so small and astrotrain so tall and skinny, their blitzwing humongously oversized. I like their sculpts, transformations and quality but their scale sucks. If they'd get more consistent with scale ut could easily be in my top 3 companies with ft, official, DX9, up and coming MakeToys, badcube and mmc/ ocular max.
;_; Far, far too small for Masterpiece in every mode. I'd have been forgiving with jet mode, but truck and bot should be there. What a damn shame, because the design and engineering are absolutely in line with MP, but without being in proper scale, he's a pass for me. Really disappointing because the engineering is just short of witchcraft.
+The_Doctors_Tardis Octane is supposed to be as tall as a seeker in robot mode and this guy is just that. How tall did you think he was supposed to be?
Lovely figure. The alt modes work surprisingly well given their diversity, and robot mode is nice too. Excellent piece of engineering on Unique Toys' end.
+Benscollectables It isn't unusual for the front axle of a trailer tandem to not touch the ground. It's called a "tag axle", and can be raised or lowered depending on the load. When the trailer/tanker is empty, the tag is often raised to make cornering easier.
You have obliterated any remaining doubts I had about buying the hell out of this guy. :)
Very impressive altmodes, and the transformation is ingenious, especially truck-to-plane, but I'd want him to be bigger for the MP shelf.
probably one of if not THE best piece of engineering i've ever seen in a transformer...
1. trucks tend to have larger wheels than cars.
2. there is no way a Brawn in his jeep mode can have a jeep ceiling that is almost as tall as the tanker itself.
These were all the reasons why I don’t prefer this figure to other incarnations of it
thats a really good figure, Im surprised, I liked all 3 modes equally . Very awsome job.

Who is the engineer responsible for this genius?
Looks tres saucy!
Indeed it is sir indeed it is
that looks absolutely stunning.
just FYI, the reason why the Vehicles like smoke screen are slightly out of scale botwise, is so that as alt mode they fit in Prime's trailer...
Just got this figure. It's brilliant so far, but I have to be extra careful with the chrome pieces, especially the landing gears. Just ask Emgo.
Great review. Fun transformation. I like the boxy G1 cartoon robot mode look. I'm definitely going to get it.
It's a great figure, might get him because the Hasbro Octane is an eyesore. It's not meant to be a MP figure, they make CHUG figures, that Astrotrain in your vid is meant for MP. The one comparison i was waiting for in it's truck mode is Classics Prime. How do they scale?
+Ray's Reviews (DMSL2007) I got him yesterday, can't wait to open him. I hope Unique Toys also goes ahead and makes a (CHUG) Astrotrain.
Thanks Ben! I am getting this, man look at it all the detail. Now this is huge step forward to triple changers.
Definitely digging this figure, glad I pre-ordered. Thank you for giving us a look.
Glad I could help
Wow, going from truck to plane mode, & both modes, have to admit, looks A LOT better than those 3rd party Astrotrains, honestly.
Great review! Not what I would consider MP. I like the figure, really nice engineering. I would get him if I still collected classics figures
Great review! Only thing I dont care is for the rubber tires. The whole eventual cracking/shredding that happens with rubber bothers me.
That figure does scale properly even with Chigur remember Astro train robot mode was slightly taller than star scream in the animation. A good screen to use is the first transformers movie, the one that introduced unicron galvatron and all the rest
+Paul Price never go with the g1 animation or animated movie as its never in scale
But that's the scale in robot mode that takara used in the masterpiece line I agree this figure is a little shorter than the animation model but it's still pretty freaking cool

I never go by scale ill stick to what looks good in my 3p collection
Great review! This mold of of octane is too small, I respect the fact that most G1 G2 fans feel that he should be in scale with the likes of sandstorm, but sandstorm was a sandcomber and helicopter and octane was a jumbo jet and oil tanker, he should actually be bigger than astrotrain. Might pick this up at TFcon. Good job!
this is Masterpiece my friend..forget the scaling nonsense. This figures quality, alt modes and transformation scheme are top notch! excellent review!
I agree
The tail of the jet mode needs a vertical stabilizer, it has too much going for it not to have one, and without a vertical stabilizer the jet mode just doesn't look right, so hopefully Unique toys recognizes and addresses that.
this is an awesome work of art and i think it looks better on with the mp awesome review mate
You failed to mention any sort of show- or toy-accuracy for the alt modes. Don't you think that's important? Especially since the truck doesn't look anything like it should.
My favourite G1 decepticon.
love this dude as well..Octane was an amazing character
When watching Peaugh's review of this, it has the exact same marks at the side of the chromed grill?? And the same gap between grill and bonnet? Makes me wonder - Did you guys review the exact same figure, or is it a production "error"/flaw in all models?

check my comment above
I think he is very Takarish. Nice job.
Can the wings be folded shorter? Like folding the upper portion of the wings
would've love a side-by-side with TW (not)Astro-train. Super thanks for the great vid!
A definite pick up for me.
I think any Masterpiece style Transformer should be compared, sizewise, to mp 10.
Yes, because MP10 is the standard by which new masterpieces are scaled to.
Yeah, a comparison to MP-10 would be great. Especially in Truck-mode.
i think truck mode is weakest just because the jets are underneath. having said that its freaking awesome and robot mode is just fantastic!
+Frank Marzegliano I agree Truck mode looks weird.
i never said weird, i said weak but whatever
Frank Marzegliano it looks weird to me, that's what I meant. I agree it's the weakest of the three modes.
+Impossible Pie think we both agree its awesome and very well done, right?
Frank Marzegliano oh yes It is well done! totally agree the robot mode looks good and the jet mode as well!
Just asking, but shouldn't the Truck Cab be Black.
I love the look of this figure, His Transformation is genius
While he he doesn't scale with Chigure, he looks to be in scale with Evila Star. Any pics with them together?
I don't have Evila Star but I can see if I can borrow him for some photos ??
If displayed in truck mode, he scales well with deluxe Classics car. In robot mode, he looks good next to other Masterpiece in robot mode...
These companies really shoot themselves and the fans in the foot when they don't offer variety of scales of the same figure. If he was as tall as dx9 chigurh I'd be on Deck with this one. I really hate missing out on such a wonderfully brilliant sculpt.
what a truly amazing feat of engineering. fantastic figure indeed but I'm patiently waiting on the KFC version.
Yep really hope to pick that up as well
This is a well engineered figure that deserves to sell well but Jesus those wings in robot mode. It's totally acceptable and I really can't see how they could have the wings swing up and not have them at risk of unpegging and cracking themselves on a shelf but just Jesus.
What's with Decepticon triple changers all having purple in their color scheme?
any reason you removed the wukong warbotron video
Great review! I'm going to put a Trump decal next to a Decepticon insignia on that plane mode.
Ha ha love it :)
Great review as always, Ben! Oh boy that plane mode is delicious!!
I think if the robot mode had a slightly bigger head and arms it would be perfect; the scale is great for classics, not that much for MP. That said... the engineering on this figure is gold!! :D love it!
Yeah that was what I was thinking , maybe a larger head and we are away :)
like the character, like the plane mode, not so much the truck or bot mode. if the wings were a bit higher up in bot mode it might of won me over, as it is it kinda looks a little off for me any way
I somehow feel that the head is either too wide or too squished from the front, similar to KFC Citizen Stack's head issue. Would you say that's the case too? Other than that this figure is superb
Yeah there is def something a little off with the head ... Can't put my finger on it though
The engineering and look is much more better than the Astrotrain figure
+Benscollectables Hello from France, The ROBOT MODE and PLANE MODE are really good but the TRUCK MODE is not accurate, the rear wheels of the truck are missing, this why the truck look weird
Thank for your reviews, can't wait your review for MP RAMJET and SHOCKWAVE
Actually Astrotrain is supposed to be about the same height as Starscream so this figure is about the right scale.
Thanks so much for skipping parts of the transformation that are the same on both sides. It's so boring to see reviewers do transformations that are identical! haha
As for not-Octane, I agree with your review in that his alt modes and the general engineering and quality of the figure are definitely amazing, but his bot mode is just boring to me. Going in my generations/3rd party shelf. Too small for MP in my opinion.
That's cool buddy , this guy will look great with them
easy fix for fingers molded as one piece
unpin the fingers
make 4 copies of each one
cut the fingers free on each copy and then pin them in
Not convinced unfortunately :/
But great review as usual Ben, keep on the good work ! :)
+BartVonDoom thanks for the kind words buddy
you deserve them mate :)
Great review. Yeah, I agree he's too big for CHUG line.
But is he too small for MP?
Wow....that is totally awesome :) My wallet hurts already ;)
Hees proice is maostapeace, Be-yun.
I love it!
definatly mp
This is goooooooood
maybe MP-10 and ,if you have him, Toyworld Evila Star? p.s. I love the look of him. if someone's selling him at BotCon next year, i'll probably get him
+Andrew Walters i can do MP-10 no problems , i dont have Evila Star though sorry
that's ok. I have MP-10 too, so it'd help to see him with Provider. i'll probably just get both Provider and Evila Star at BotCon if they're there. thanks for replying. big fan of your reviews.
+Andrew Walters thanks for the kind words buddy :)
:-)
you won't be going to BotCon 2016 by any chance, will you?
now imagine if they did blitzwing like this...
"very high quality, very durable plastic"
**WATCH EMGO'S REVIEW**

He's CHUG
truck mode is the worst of the three. it looks weird, jet and robot mode look pretty good.
I left a message on your web site. Hope you'll answer me. Go on with your reviews. They are great
I replied on the 12th Julien :)
+Benscollectables Unfortunatly it seems it didn't work. I looked into my emails and my spams and found nothing from you :'(

23:16 That moment you realize how stupid this all is.
I would get him if he was 3 heads taller. :(
Who the fuck engineered this ???????????
Damn man......
;_; Far, far too small for Masterpiece in every mode. I'd have been forgiving with jet mode, but truck and bot should be there.
