    LYRICS
    Out at the train tracks
    I dream of escape
But a song comes onto my iPod
And I realize it's getting late
And I can't take the staring
    And the sympathy
And I don't like the questions "How do you feel?"
    "How's it going in school?"
And "Do you wanna talk about it?"
    Way out
    Way out of here
    Fade out
    Fade out, vanish
And I'm trying to forget you
And I know that I will
In a thousand years, or maybe a week
Burn all your pictures, and cut out your face
The shutters are down and the curtains are closed
    And I've covered my tracks
    Disposed of the car
Trying to forget even your name and the way that you look
    When you're sleeping
    Dreaming of this
    Way out
    Way out of here
    Fade out
    Fade out, vanish

    The story behind the video
The video is dedicated to Arielle Daniel, a girl who was killed by a train in November 12, 2005, at the age of seventeen, together with a friend of her, Heather Bates, who was fourteen years old. Arielle was a big Porcupine Tree fan who founded the band’s MySpace Group. The accident occurred when the girls were taking photos on the rails. Both were from Oak Creek, Wisconsin. During a show at Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in June 2, 2007, her family were present among the audience, so Steven Wilson paid tribute to them, saying “This is for Arielle” just before the band played “Blackest Eyes” which was her favourite song. That night, “Way Out of Here” was performed without showing the video on the screen. The girl in the video, has gotten positive feedback both from Arielle Daniels father, and from her friends, who thanked her, and said she did a good job.

Yeah, I wrote that paragraph on the wikipedia article. I was a member of her MySpace Group, so sad. BTW, the girl in the video is Sabrina Mortensen, a close friend of the director, Lasse Hoile. Her portrayal of Arielle was very well received among the fans. She's also the girl with the bird head in Steven Wilson's "Harmony Korine" video.

RIP Arielle Daniel, my friend, my hero. This song was written for her. There was so much more to her than the public will ever known. She wasn't "some suicidal little goth chick." ... She had so many plans in life, and they were taken from her. When all she was trying to do was help out a friend in need. I'll always remember you for the right reasons, ElleirA.

This song never fails to make me tear up when I think of why they wrote it and who they wrote it for. It's really something that they care enough to write something so haunting for that young fan (and her friend if I remember right).

Correction: the video is dedicated to her. The song was written before the incident I believe.

There's music you listen to to have fun, dance whatever. Then there's music that elevates the spirit, gives you a peek at the backstage of life, the symbols and archetypes that are hints of the unseen realities that create the world we "experience".

Steven Wilson is one of the most talented musician of the world. He composed almost all of Porcupine Tree's songs. He actually started experimenting with music at the age of 12. Being forced to learn guitar, he had learned it at the age of 11. That guy is a genius.

It'd be nice Roadrunner re uploaded this at 1444 or 1080p. It's such an amazing & timeless video, as is pretty much all of Lasse Hoile's visual works that were done for Porcupine Tree & Steven Wilson. 240p just doesn't do it justice.

2007, that was quite an impressive year to me.
Not only that I've met the love of my life, but I also met one of my favorite bands until today: Porcupine Tree.

Music video directed by Danish artist, photographer and film-maker Lasse Hoile. First time I noticed his name was in Steve Wilson's side-project Blackfield's music video for the eponymous track which he directed. The video was shot to my knowledge in Copenhagen and the first time I saw it was when I saw Porcupine Tree live in Copenhagen during their "Fear of a Blank Planet" tour. From what I've heard Lasse was in the audience. Anathema was the support which is mostly why I attended the show, but Porcupine Tree wowed me. Previously I only knew about Wilson's Blackfield and producing an Opeth album.

Haha yeah I was there for that too, they played a cracking good set that night, got a lot of my favourites in there. I loved the part where John Wesley walked off stage for one of the songs and had to rush back on when he realised he was meant to be singing backing!
