The UAE government, about to take up an influential new role in the International Labour Organization (ILO), has failed to adequately protect female domestic workers - many of them from the Philippines - from abuse by employers and recruiters.

I have been talking to a Philippine lady who is working in Jordan for over a year. She is treated like shit no days off and they keep her prisoner. She gives me a blog everyday. I want to help her get out of that horrible place from horrid people.

When you go live Arab countries as a maid, you don't ask to be raped, physically abused and even killed. Most of our women never get paid for their work, their job is not just cooking and cleaning their job entails cleaning their Arab grandparents or their disable family member ass or even Working in farm land, and all without break They don't allow them to use phone, they don't allow them leave the house, they only allow them to eat once a day, they take their passport away, they shackle them with chains, so can't leave, they call them slaves in Arabic language, they borrow house maid from one family to another. I know a lots of stories of house maids killed and buried in the Garden of the Arabs whom they suppose to work. Are they really Muslims? Don't they afraid of Allah or their profit Mohammed? How could they go to Mosque every day or every Friday? After they do this the maids or another person or human being.
One day will be their turn to pay for what they have done to their servants. God sees everything.
In Arab countries they DO NOT see other nationalities as Humans AT ALL.

.i have a friend from Philippine here in Kuwait .she doing working as a maid in Kuwaiti house and her visa will be finish in December and after finish visa she want to go back to her but the Kuwaiti are said they don't want to allow to go back to her country and they harassed her and hurt her self she want help . As an Emirati I have to say the best solution is to no let any domestic worker into the UAE as for many people here only think about themselves
The problem is a lack of empathy. But the other problem is thinking this is only a UAE problems or that all Arabs are like this. Its like saying; all black people are drug users that like rap music, and all white people are racists.
However, I don't think the Islamic faith is any help in fostering any kind of empathy towards others - this is coming from someone with a degree and masters in religious education. Not to criticise those who follow in peace, but for me, I struggle with the teachings of Islam, that men in particular have focused on as a reason for such abusive behaviours. Christianity has its own issues, but they don't seem to follow with such vigour as Islam does in Islamic dominated countries. But again, that's not to say all do!

My wife and her cousin, along with their work mates were victims of this when they were in Saudi.
They were all there to work at a clinic as RN's, 2-year contract.
Their employers stopped paying them after the 6th month.
If you wanted to leave and get your passport back, you either finish your contract or pay a huge fee.

She was allowed to have a medical check up and found out she had infection in her blood.. and was given antibiotic... her employer doesnt want her to leave. Her madamme tried to hold her back by delaying her flight. They will just promise that they will buy her the plane ticket but they never did. So we bought her ticket and her employer was forced to give her the passport... She is now home... she lost too much weight but at least she is lucky to be able to come back home safe..

😊 Well, I truly love God. I am not religious but very spiritual person. So, I believe 1) Religion is the beliefs in someone experiences But spirituality is having my own experiences. The mainstream religions people promote religious ideology by giving guidelines and guide but In my spiritual life; I do not want anyone or anything between God and me to restrict my freedom to worship God. 2) We do not need any authorities to do good work. So, everything for good and evil and there's no success and failure for everything. If everything is real then real things can not be threatened. Once you come to understand that God/The Holy Spirit is in each of us, You will no longer need a Book to tell you how to live. Then why we need religious scriptures? The Virtue is the expression of the basic goodness in our actions. The Basic goodness is the fundamental worthiness of every individuals. We are worthy to God always in everything. 7) Beliefs in a cruel God makes a cruel man. No matter what; every living creatures has the right to live and What makes their life cheap? Everything depends on everything. Nothing too big or too small in value. We can not love and hate at the same time; Being a vegetarian means love without cruelty happily. The mainstream religious people are killing people and sacrificing animals in the name of God. They promote God's cruel punishments. The Punishment is endless for Sinners/Devil according to religious scriptures. But God is love always. Overcome hate with love. If all religions for peace, unity? No way. Because they are not for peace. 8) Well, The God gave us everything to go from moment to moment in our lives as we do our part and pray only to thank god then the Love is in progress. The Love is always for everyone. We are always worthy of the God's love. Our greatest fear is; not to be loved by anyone but we are all loved by someone. When we eliminate all our unnecessary differences among us then true peaceful life is possible with the true love. If we can't find the peace within ourselves then we will never find it anywhere else. 9) This is the Fight for independence and freedom of humanity to worship God freely without religious guide and guidelines to restrict us. I am part Arabic. Please don’t let these monsters fool you. Not all Arabs are like this. We had to live in Dubai for a year because my dad got a job offer (we moved back to Australia soon after) and we had a house maid who we treated like family. Now even though we live in Australia again, we still see her. She comes to visit with her family and we love her a lot. I remember crying so much that day she left. I was 11 and it was the same day we moved back to aus. She and I sat on the floor hugging each other while crying. I will never have anyone like her. I miss her so much and can’t wait to see her again,
why they treat the housemaid like that we are same feeling ... that we can feel hurt...the employers bring a house bcoz they don't know how to work or they don't have time to do the duty in house...why they treat like an animal of their house maid....

I don’t understand why these people want to come to Dubai. I work in Dubai and I am very happy here, in fact the Arabs are very human people. But the old folks are also very traditional kind of people, they will love you as their children if you are clean, most of the maid get ill treated or send home because they lead a whoredom life and always argue and provoke the conversation with their employer. Most of the Filipino practice sex free live privately in Dubai, and there is evidence of many of them who got STD and HIV in their subsequent year Visa renewal medical check up. I would say, if they cannot behave modestly and cannot have self control, it is better they stay in their country with their husband.

First of all,People from UAE are called Emiratis & Emiratis and Arabs are different.
This is truly sad to see that domestic workers are being abuse , and this is a true fact .
But let me tell you UAE has the best Labour protection laws ( not domestic ) in the Middle East .They treat laboures and workers better than Qatar (at least) .
Although UAE might not have a good domestic abuse protection system , they are the most kindest country in Middle East.
Their ideology of "do anything to anyone else" is true . However they do only the good stuff. Many people complain of high fees and living cost . But look at it what they are giving you in return High Security , Good Protection laws, .
Their might not be much freedom in UAE as USA but USA can't give what UAE does.
This is just to tell the world that UAE is one of the best countries of the world ✌
Lets not make sweeping generalizations of arabs and the entire country. I know people who work in that place that are in fact treated quite well. The problem with irresponsible journalists is that they wanna make it appear like this represents the totality of the condition. Fact of the matter is, there are bad employers everywhere. In the Philippines, abuses like this also happen but they do not make headlines, because perhaps its not a very interesting news material. But when it happens overseas, immediately it causes controversy. And besides, we only hear one side of the story. We did not hear the side of the employers.
Lan Duong Saying you met many of these "women" does not mean anything. First of all did you get the side of their employers? There are always 2 sides to a story. Moreover, these says nothing more than you met a couple of people who have sad stories to tell in that country. I have a few friends myself who are working in UAE and various middle east countries. Most of them are doing quite well. So what you said means nothing. You will always find domestic workers in any country with a sad story to tell.
Second, this is you simply being ethnocentric. You are an outsider criticizing a culture to the point demonizing it, simply because thats not the culture you grew up in. Some of their attitudes, customs and traditions may seem strange to an outsider like you. But the same could also be said about yours for people like them. Your country may have many practices and believes they find to be "immoral". My point is, if you are an outsider, learn to respect the host culture you are in. Otherwise, do not live in that country.
See, nobody is forcing these people to work in their country. There are many countries to seek employment in. So if the conditions in the UAE are so deplorable. If their attitude is so disgusting, then why attempt to seek employment there? Oh yes because their own countries are no better tyrants than the arabs! Opportunities are scarce in their own country so their own government sends them elsewhere. Meanwhile these governments Im talking about benefit a lot for the remittances to keep the economy afloat. The same is true for the Philippines.
Bottomline is, there are bad employers any where in the world. I dont think its fair to demonize an entire culture out of cases like this. The things you have mentioned also happen in singapore and HK. So are we gonna demonize the chinese now? I studied in Japan too, and I experienced being bullied myself. But I dont demonize the country that hosted me and even generously paid for my education?

These women are asking for more rights; it isn't something that "the West" is imposing onto them. And it's outrageous to place all the blame on the situation in the Philippines. Many domestic workers and labourers migrate to the UAE under false pretences (as did one of the women in this video) and some are kept there against their will. Employers are fully aware of how desperate these people are and often exploit that. This isn't an attack on Arab culture; it's a criticism of the UAE government for failing to establish and uphold laws that protect these people despite a clear availability of resources. I lived in the UAE for over 10 years; I'm an Arab, and I think this state of affairs is absolutely disgraceful.

Second, it seems you have a problem with reading comprehension. All that I am saying is that we shouldnt make sweeping generalizations. The problem with this kind of Journalism is that it gives the impression that Arab employers are such tyrants which is not fair. Third the kind of abuses you are talking about also happens in singapore, and in HK. Sure better laws would help. But then again the reality is there are evil employers everywhere. You are right, these people are desperate to make a living for their families. Nobody wants to go overseas and be away from their children so that they can earn a living. Now I'm glad this a conversation people are talking about, but I see so many people generalizing. Not all Arab countries are like this. It's mostly the ones with oil which aren't even the majority. The biggest culprits are UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi. These countries don't only exploit people from South East Asia but also people from other Arab countries.
Now another thing to remember is that westerners are very complicit. I mean don't y'all love to go to Dubai and Duha. You are basically financing slavery.
