About that question as to this "peak of quality" that you asked about. A prophecy lies below... The quality in terms of artwork does gradually creep up in quality for regular and cinematic panels, though it may not be to your liking with the aesthetic. If you see quality in terms of accumulation of quality which is not lesser than what comes before, there is no functional downgrade in quality, in terms of artwork or story telling. Considering what you said about Miura and how he is highlighting different types of storytelling, and how the categorical difference doesn't mean a dip in quality. the previous paragraph would make sense in terms of your perspective about quality. This is the case with exception to one specific, fairly short, segment. Its not bad, but its not as good as what there already is.
I don’t have anything to add to this conversation today, but I gotta comment to boost this dumb algorithm. You guys are absolutely fantastic and I want more people to watch you!
When I got to this part of Berserk it pretty much sealed it for me. This man is a genius, and this is the best story I've ever read. Serpico and Farnese in particular. He managed to give these brand new B characters so much depth and back story in such a short amount of time. Miura has definitely gotten more efficient (and effective perhaps) in his story telling since Golden Age.
Forgot this was all in one volume. Definitely one of the best single volumes. Glad this new format allows you to dig into the juicy details. Building off your points on the Fernese/Serpico flashback and the impact of some of the final scenes with the imagery of the torch and snow: one of the unique aspects/strengths of manga, and one of my favorite things about it, is how it can use symbolic imagery to paint the inner emotional landscape of its characters. As someone who loves both illustration and story, it just really hits the spot when done masterfully. And the images can stay with you long after. Haven’t been commenting much since you’ve been getting absolutely flooded on earlier videos, but I’ve been having a blast. Glad to see you both enjoying the story, and I’m looking forward to the next one.
Hey guys, after you wrap up this series. I think you to make a final show to conclude the story as whole. And what about characters tier list or about which apostles who had coolest design? Haha
43:58 "Gerico"?! That's the last name I would have thought to come up here ahahah. That's one of the few "named characters" that don't even get a line of dialogue other than "uh" and "ugh" before being cleaved in half by Guts to prove what happens if you throw at him someone that's just on the level of "always saying you're stronger than Zondark"
Excellent video guys! Just some info. I see that deluxe volume 11 comes out in July and 12 is in November (from my store anyway). Can’t wait to get all these beautiful editions on my shelf. And of course, can’t wait for the next video
Don't feel bad about confusing Wyald and Zodd, the first time I read it I got them confused as well. They do have a similar look that can be easily confused if you're not as familiar with how they look. I love hearing your predictions and seeing where you guys see the story going. Also pretty much every stream you guys will pick out something I never noticed or thought about before.
Silat is one of my favorites. When he was introduced I thought he'd be a one-time villain, but the role he plays in this arc feels huge to me as a way to humanize the Kushan as a whole. I think it would've been easy to portray them the way Tolkien did the Haradrim in LOTR, which was always one of that story's weaker aspects for me. It's really cool as well how it turns out he's part of the Bakiraka from Griffith's rescue way back in Golden Age. He's a really cohesive part of the story and I wish he got more screen time. Also, everyone gets Schierke wrong, lol. It's actually a German word, so it's pronounced "Sheer-kuh".
Aw man I missed it. You knew it was coming but yeah Godo was definitely a loss. Huh, kinda weird how I never put it together. But yeah from the first time he’s introduced in the Golden Age Godo would always give Guts not only great live advice but unlike others be very direct about it (the sparks allusion he got from him in the Golden Age). No fancy metaphors just truth. The Hill of Swords… is so damn good. No better place/way for a confrontation between Guts and Griffith after the rebirth. Yeah in the battle Zodd uses a Kushan blade he found, the fight is also great at showing Guts skill brining him closer and closer to beating an Apostle (in human form). The adventure of Guts Junior isn’t over yet, also no spoiler Junior like his dad wasn’t something the God Hand accounted for so for the Egg of the Perfect World swallowing him and inadvertently making him part of Griffith’s new body was not part of the plan. I do think if Miura was still alive and the story could’ve had a true conclusion, forgiveness would’ve been a big part of that ending. But from what Griffith did to get his powers, to what he did when he got them to how his presence changes the world (as well as his plans for the world since they never get revealed)… I think there’s things that cannot be forgiven. The rescue embrace… kinda like at the tower of conviction when she first sees him or even more so I always assumed that she (somehow) realizes that her son is part of Griffith’s new body. She’s been out of her mind since the kid was born but she always reacted positively to his presence and most mothers recognize their children even ich their physical appearance changes. I just think the Kushan empire is interesting since I’ve never seen an invading force in a fantasy setting that seem to be inspired by Indian culture. Griffith just used his powers to dodge the arrows, he’s essentially an evil god walking the earth. He could’ve probably killed every Kushan with a finger snap but that not how you build legends. The big knight is Grunbelt, with the canon shield. The psychic girl is Sonia, she’s goos Shierke isn’t the Oracle, I want to say the Oracle for these legendary heroes and knights was probably a vision like Zodd had. It’s never shown in story till the end. There’s a huge span of time from when Farnese gets the bunny doll to when she burns it, her parents are never around so she carries the doll with her everywhere but when her father tells her to lose the dirty doll (which is so important to her because it was a gift) she immediately burns it. They’re both kids with terrible home life’s, so you do fell for the on that level (still no excuse for all the burnings) . Farnese is still ways from redemption but the flashbacks make it clear that she didn’t really had a chance to be a normal child, and when she does reprehensible things she gets applauded by people that should probably sit her down and give her therapy instead (which obviously doesn’t exist at that time). Serpico had to burn his mother but a part of him was definitely relieved to be rid of here. Yeah the story never really dips it just stays good or gets even better (and a bit depressing with the next volume), even the boat ride. When you don’t have to wait for a new chapter for a year.
I've been considering not talking about this because I want to avoid spoiling but looking back on these chapters I think there were enough hints to clear the situation. This chapters have lots of NTR bait in it, and they probably make sense from Guts's perspective since he doesn't fully understand the situation, but Casca is not attracted to Griffith, she chose Guts over him when she was sane, she wouldn't chose her rapist now either. She does indeed sees her baby in him as one comment already told you. Griffith also doesn't feel anything for her, after he leaves with Zodd we can see a panel of him holding his chest and recalling the embrace and we see an image of the infant, so if anything a part of him sees a mother now. I don't think the infant is a part of the old Griffith, he is Guts and Casca's biological son, and Femtho's apostole which is now fused to the Egg apostole to serve as Femtho's vessel, a side of the new Griffith. I don't know if the infant is a subject of causality or a defiant of it but he is certainly a key element, but more on that later.
Volume 22 is one of my favorite berserk volumes, the only thing I don't like is that the next volume, 23, has a scene I really don't like. So now when I reread 22 I always have the scene from 23 in the back of my mind
50:40 I think serpico was forced to do it, they where hunting down heretics and serpico found his mother in the cross fire with this extermination process. As he sees her tied onto a large stick with fire fire around her, he shouts out her name. This obviously bring the attention attention the other members, farnese ordering him to set his own mother on fire to prove that isn't his mother.

Excited to learn more about them!

Reading through berserk for the first time and i really appreciate these!
I’m glad!
Fun fact : Miura was a fan of Star wars so you're gonna see a lot of Star Wars references in " Millennium Falcon ( Han Solo's ship) " Arc
My reaction to the desecration of the hill of swords and griffith's statements were very similar to yours. Pure rage and fury lol.
He's evil lol
I always look forward to these
