New Orleans had a good amount of options to enjoy pre-cruise. But hanging out in the lobby with everyone was where we had the most fun. And the birth of everyone's favorite alter-ego was born on that cruise! #TheChizzle
I live in memphis so the day before I hop on the city of new Orleans train and ride to new Orleans. It is an 11 hour ride and I have done it many times. Once I am there I catch a cab to the hotel. There are plenty of cabs waiting at the front of the station . On the train you are allowed to bring you own food and snacks. Food is pricey on the train. I am used to the mighty Mississippi River since it flows through downtown memphis. I love it's beauty ever though it's muddy.
Went on a Norwegian Getaway cruise out of NOLA back in 2019. The cruise was great, but I had so much fun sightseeing and eating my way through the city, my first visit there, I almost regretted taking a cruise. My friend from Texas cave to meet me and show be around and we had a blast. And yes, that sailing to the Gulf took about 8 hours plus we left late (wasn’t sure why), but it was still nice. I’m going to try to return to NOLA but next time, I think I’ll just enjoy the city and skip the cruise. NOLA has way too much to offer if you look for it and I don’t just mean Bourbon Street and parties. I LOVED the Garden District. 😀
I like to cruise out of New Orleans in the fall, like October. The ‘smell’ of Mardi Gras has usually worn off, the weather is great, and it’s not too crowded!
Great content as usual. My wife and I sailed out of New Orleans when the Carnival Dream was there. We both really enjoyed sailing down the Mississippi River. But like you said, it did get a little boring after a while.. Coming back, the fog was so thick that we couldn't see anything at all. I was not a big fan of New Orleans, but we still had a great time. Keep up the great work..
Bourbon Street was a one and done for me when we cruised from there on NCL. Glad I went there once to see. The WWII Museum is near the ports and I hear it is great if you are into history. There is a Cafe Du Monde in the mall adjacent to the NCL terminal, the mall gave us something to do being a bit early for embarkation. The river didn't bother me, I didn't feel like I was missing anything going to dinner and a show that day. Leaving a port like Baltimore, you might be just going under the Bay Bridge at sunset at dinner time and passing Annapolis. Our only gambling is playing our birthdays in roulette the last day of a cruise! Another nice video!
Carnival New Orleans much different than it's port in Galveston. The Casino is allowed to open pretty much as soon as the ship gets under way ( Louisiana law gave them the okay ). Your drink packages are also available as soon as you board ( also unlike Galveston). I do believe that the shops are also open shortly after getting under way.
I used to run parking garages in New Orleans, including one mentioned in this video(Fulton Place). I would not recommend parking in a surface lot ie Julia St lot aka the Whale lot due to the high number of break ins. I definitely would park in a secured garage. For those wanting a less expensive option, multiple brand named hotels in Kenner/Metaire near the airport offer very inexpensive parking ($5-$10 per day). Just a short Uber ride away.
NOLA is my home port and and I love it and when go cruising on Carnival my friends and I have ag good time see a different part on thr city and eating the best places for food
Hilton and Hampton on St Charles great for a few days before since you are on streetcar line SAZARAC HOUSE is a great tour and cocktail history. Also the beignets.we’re doughnuts growing up they changed the name before the Worlds Fair. Look at old pictures in cafe du monde or Morning call.the signs read donughts Also you didn’t mention the best family tours 1)Mardi Gras World right at port you can actually see the production of the floats 2) world class zoo you can access by the streetcar 3) Aquarium/Insectituom in between the 2 cruise ports 4) World War II museum 5) City park with a Chidrens Museum inside the park 6Halloween awesome fun throughout the city and unique house displays I agree with what you said about River path but also we are HOT November - April best time to maybe have break in the heat
Being this is my home port, and I live 30 minutes from the port, you did a great job, hotel prices are insanely high around Mardi Gras, Book them as soon as you can, also FYI, active duty military and Veterans park free at the carnival cruise port.
We had an NCL cruise booked, and changed to a cruise out of canaveral because the whole parking situation just looked like a disaster waiting to happen lol
I'm from Mississippi originally 😂. This is my first time taking a cruise out of New Orleans. This video is helpful. I just need to know which hotel is closer to the Carnival Cruise Terminal. I'm flying into New Orleans.
@@SharonatSeaTravel I just made my reservation. My cruise is not till April but I like to have everything plan out. 😂 Thank you for the information in your video.
We knew our way the city very well, one of our sons graduated from Tulane, we had visited the city many times, so that was not an issue, we don’t like the city at night. we were on the extravaganza cruise and we will never sail again from that port, we had the worst time on embarkation day. The terminal is very small and the lines were horrible. It took at least a couple of hours to get on that ship. Very bad experience!!
Do not fly in the day of cruise I do agree with that. We got a 2-bedroom for 300.90 parking for 137.00 for 7 days cruise in February 2025 shop around were driving from Nixa Mo.
I would love to go on a cruise on like Carnival etc...just once. Unfortunately I can't afford anything over $200. I live in BR and can take the Greyhound bus to get there. Is it possible to find a cruise for that price?? I do have a few chronic conditions that make it difficult to walk for more than 20 minutes. I just want to experience the sea breeze and decent meals. I don't drink. I am also concerned with the extra costs like tips and taxes. I do not want to exceed $200. I would be traveling alone. Is there any options for me? Thanks.
As a resident, I do not recommend this. It is very dangerous. The police force is understaffed, night time is especially dangerous, since the French Quarter police are not available apparently until 7:30 am. Be very careful when "starting the party early" .
Nola has become my favorite Cruise Port!🛳 I take Amtrak in 1-3 days before & just enjoy the amazing Museums, Art Galleries, Live Music, St Charles St Trolley 🚎 and of course some of the best Culinary Delights in the Country! Sailing in 7 weeks!🥂
Embarkation last January was very, very slow and crowded with at least 2 ships in port. Pack your patience.
Hi Sharon and Jamie. I just wanted to say thank you so much. These cruise port videos are invaluable.
Cruise knowledge is power.
Happy Sails S.A.S. !!

Casino opens about an hour after the sail away. 14 cruises out of NOLA.
Great tips we are sailing out of New Orleans December 28 on Royal Caribbean😊
Thinking of same cruise
Hi Sharon, Jamie, family and friends!
Excellent video 👌🏻
Very informative 👍🏻
Thank you!
Cruised from NOLA last year June. It was okay. Wouldn't call it my favorite port, but we had never been to NOLA, so it was a new experience for us. 😊
Booked for next April on the Getaway - Thank you Sharon At Sea!! And Jamie too!

We love to cruise down the river. It’s a historical place and think about the history of the river.

Thank you for the info on New Orleans

Interesting. Is that only for Carnival? What if I’m going on a Royal Caribbean cruise? What is the address?

I feel fortunate to have family there. So, we park at their house and Uber to the port. SO much cheaper!
I'm on one in 40 days!
2 weeks for us!!
Thank you for the information. We have a Wyndham timeshare in New Orleans and I thought only river cruises departed from there.

I am not a gambler but I noticed the casino opened right after sailing away.
While on the river, do you have sales tax on drinks? That's also something to keep in mind. If you talk about it later in the video, sorry.
Yes

Don't forget the tax you pay on your drinks before getting to international waters
This is with the drink package too, am I correct?
