I remember as a kid hearing some of this music. But could never find anything more about it. life in a small mid west town eaves you cut of from the world at time. I don;t understand why this music never took off.
Smokin Jazz from the basement, Ivan at his "Boogaloo" best, rivetting shuffler, sheer esoteric briliance from 1973, guitarist ivan Boogaloo Jones riffs & grooves his way through this Jazz jam that's mindblowingly hot, such an infectious rhythm with lovely sax from Dave Hubbard
This is insane! After that sax part, he keeps building that crescendo until your nose bleeds. It's an outstanding example of how a guitar can used to express emotion without any effects pedals. Brilliant!
Totally insane, had to get it on CD to my hi ress stereo, the percussion will blow you away, if you aint got the cd or lp, hear it in Lossless Quality on TIDAL!!!!
@ssminopoopy Most underrated guitarist period. If I can manage to play as good as Smokin' Joe, I'll be good to go. :) Just imagine if he'd be doing those leads with some distortion! I bet Jimi would have been sweatin' it, big time. ;) I love Boogaloo Joe! :)
Sounds like someone got given a go of the vibraslap... yes, it's annoyingly overused. Sounds like the sort of thing I'd do. Like deploying a sports whistle during Nocturne Number 3 and yellow carding the pianist every time there's a rest. Ah...stick with it, the percussionist swaps to tambourine. More tolerable in the mix.
Shit...it comes back. Christ...there's even an Acme Siren. Have I heard this already, deep in my past? Seems influential in too many ways to be a coincidence.

Bought this album in '73 after hearing a song from it on WNOP 740 AM. Still rocks hard today.
I remember this, good times
still doing it on dancefloors in 2012 Saturday 10th November to be exact : )
I can't believe this cat got by me. Huge Wes and Grant fan. I LOVE this! All his stuff grooves so hard. My new fav player. TY very much for posting!

BOOGALOO JOE JONES (g), Dave Hubbard (t sax), Bobby Knowles (org), Ron Carter (b), Bud Kelly (d) and Jimmy Johnson (perc) in 1973.
LOVELY
This tracked ripped the dancefloor apart at my local jam. Killer cut.
Loving this!

@royayersrules Spread the word, good brother! ;)
don't play wit it 🎹🎷✌😎
Where is Ivan Boogaloo Jones now and what happened to him? There is nothing about him on the web besides the same bio blurb repeated everywhere.
@frogslips I'm also interesting in this. Cant find anything but stuff on Wiki. Anyone knows is he still alive?
That vibraslap has gotta go!

As mad as the rest of this madly brilliant bonkers, tambourines, whistles, up and dancin like a vodka stung loon at a wake, unearthed and boogie eyed!
