Underground Tour in DELTA 01 Nuclear Missile Launch Control Facility

- The Minuteman Missile National Historic Site is an American national historic site established in 1999 near Wall, South Dakota to illustrate the history and significance of the Cold War, the arms race, and intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) development. The site preserves the last intact Minuteman II ICBM system in the United States, in a disarmed and demilitarized status. Guided tours are available of the underground Launch Control Center, and a missile silo can be observed from above.[4] 450 of the newer Minuteman III missiles are still on active duty at Malmstrom AFB, Montana, Minot AFB, North Dakota, and F. E. Warren AFB, Wyoming.
This National Historic Site consists of three facilities: a visitor center and two significant Cold War-era sites, a launch control center and a missile silo/launch facility, formerly operated by the 66th Strategic Missile Squadron of the 44th Strategic Missile Wing, headquartered at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Box Elder, near Rapid City. The facilities represent the only remaining intact components of a nuclear missile field that once consisted of 150 Minuteman II missiles, 15 launch-control centers, and covered over 13,500 square miles (35,000 km2) of southwestern South Dakota.[4]
The silo, known as launch facility Delta Nine (D-09) was constructed in 1963. It occupies 1.6 acres (6,000 m2) nearly one-half mile (800 m) southwest of Interstate 90 at Exit 116 and six miles (9.7 km) from the town of Wall, South Dakota, in eastern Pennington County. It consists of an underground launch tube ("missile silo") 12 feet (3.7 m) in diameter and 80 feet (24.4 m) deep, made of reinforced concrete with a steel-plate liner. An unarmed missile is on display inside. The launch tube's 90-ton cover has been rolled partly away and welded to the rails it rides on. The launch tube was then covered with a glass viewing enclosure. Not only does this permit visitors to see the missile, it means Russian satellites are able to verify that the site is not operational, and hence in compliance with the Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty. Because the only way to get to the underground part of the site is by a ladder 30 feet (9.1 m) long, tours are not conducted underground for safety reasons. Visitors can conduct self-guided tours of the site during the day by calling a number on their cell phones and walking around the site, listening to the description
various points over the phone.
The launch control facility, known as Delta One (D-01), is about 10.5 miles (16.9 km) away, to the east-southeast in northwestern Jackson County. It occupies approximately six acres (24,000 m2) about 1.7 miles (2.7 km) north of I-90 at Exit 127. It consists of an above-ground building containing a kitchen, sleeping quarters, offices and life-support equipment. Below this building is the actual launch control center, buried 31 feet (9.4 m) deep, connected to the building by an elevator. Guided tours are conducted underground here, but are limited to six people at a time due to the very small underground launch control center ("capsule") and are a half-hour long. Self-guided tours are not possible here; the gate for the fence

I'm a scanner radio hobbyist myself surprised you didn't even notice the VHF antennas on the roof of that facility to communicate between base security and in the field and that was unencrypted at the time until now with all digital crap on the market now that they're using in the military
Very good. Great

Happy day
When I was in high school my brother was stationed at a launch control facility just north of Minot AFB. I spent the summer on the base and he arranged for a private tour of the facility while it was fully active. We were allowed to even go in the capsule while the officers were in there. It was beyond cool. One of the officers thought it would be fun if they initiated a fake alert while we were in the capsule. The blast doors all sealed along with many alarms and flashing lights. I thought it was way cool as a dumb high school kid. I think my mom and dad both pissed themselves and didn’t think it was as cool as I did. The officers got a big kick out of it.😂😂😂 Something I will always remember.
The best experience to go underground thanks for watching

There is my old office as an FSC, Flight Security Controller. I was stationed here in 72-74 and then again late 75-76 in Security Forces. We lived at these LCF's, Launch Control Facilities.
Thank you for watching
Đẹp lắm bạn ơi
great work buddy, appreciate it
Imagine some warheads are closing in and you are asking yourself: "Why is the f*n elevator so slow!?" Nevertheless I'd prefer the 80ft ride in this situation.
yeah i was wondering too the elevator is very slow
Well done..
Thank you 🙏🙏🙏
21:41 A few blue tooth speakers around there and that would be fantastic. Just leave an old iphone plugged in down there with all the audio and you have a heck of a show.

I always thought that part of War Games was stupid, too. If you shoot the commander, you definitely won't be launching.
Nice👌

There are a lot of cracks, what is it for?
The USAF aircraft in service today are the EC135 Command and Control aircraft. The Navy equivalent are the E6B. Both are based on the Boeing 707 airframe. They are the ones that communicate with the nuclear missile launch facilities and subs. So the president gives the order, the order goes thru the pentagon to the Services then to the missile fields, aircraft bombers and subs. In theory Air Force 1 (which is only a call sign that is used when a president is on the aircraft) has communications but would actually leave the launch instructions thru the EC135 or E6B command aircraft if needed. The next generation is being developed called the E-XX program

Hey Guys we have the Delta O9 too you can see a real Capsule here
