This video does not show the procedure for descaling the unit. For that, you need to add a descaling solution (a different product than what's shown here) to the water tank and run a different cleaning cycle.
Dear Mister, thank you so much ... your video was perfect, uncomplicated, explained simply and helped us out of a frustrating situation with our (aussie designed) Bambino. Again thanks, David in Sydney ... oh, and I did go and buy the cleaning tablets you recommended, thanks for that, too. Brilliant
Kudos and thank you for your video! I was following the instructions in "Care and Cleaning" and nowhere did it say "power on the machine first". I was pressing 1 and 2 with the system off, and thinking I was entering cleaning mode. It would power on and keep the 1 & 2 lights lit, after which I pressed either and it would just power on with all three lights lit. It was a bit misleading, because it seemed to work. Starting the cleaning cycle from the machine already powered on was much more effective! 🥸 How long does the average cleaning cycle take? What should the blinkies and machine be doing? (Edit: alternating from cup 1 and 2 back and forth) Thank you for your very helpful video!
Yes, the Breville instructions are bad! I, too, didn't know to manually enter the cleaning cycle from "power on" until watching this video. WRT how long the cleaning cycle should take, I was wondering the same thing. When I've done it after the flashing light indicator saying it's been 200 extractions, it's taken ~5 minutes. When doing it without the alert, it took less than a minute. That short time made me wonder if it was really in cleaning mode but the lights were flashing so I'm guessing it was doing its thing.
Thank you so much for the concise explanation, got really confused when it went into cleaning mode this morning. Thank you for the tablet recommendation as well!
This is a great video: Direct, simple, to the point. Question: Why does the water container need to be filled up all the way? The clean process only used a small portion of the water from the tank. Did I miss something?
Yes - me too! I don't understand ... it says to add all this water and to have this large container under it and it wasn't needed. I came on here to see why, LOL
Thank you for this to-the-point vid! Genuinely curious on why we are using a 2-liter container under the portafilter during cleaning? I was expecting it to fill with water or something, but no water escapes the portafilter w/cleaning disk. I was feeling like I did something wrong! Haha. Thank you!
This is a safety measure I'm guessing in case the rubber disc becomes dislodged which would then result in the liquid coming out of the group head. Older units cleaning discs also had a hole in the middle that bled some water out during the process
I believe the manual might be shared with the basic bambino which does not have the solenoid valve which allows the pressure to be released after the brewing cycle which also would mean it wouldn't be able to Release the pressure back down through the valve To back flush into the drip tray. I'm going to assume they shipped An unfinished, poorly edited manual
You do not actually need a bowl underneath for the cleaning. The water flushes into the drip tray. I initially got confused, but then realized my drip tray was full, but the cleaning cycle was complete.
@@LifestyleLab_ The same thing happened to me. I was already running thoughts in my mind how to reset it and put it into another cleaning cycle mode. Good thing you guys made my day easy.
I was wondering the same. But I still don’t understand how to avoid the drip tray overflowing. I am currently emptying the drip tray at every pause, but that last cycle before the steaming is longer and fills the drip tray quit a bit. Are we supposed to be removing the drip tray and lugging the machine to the kitchen sink?
Same with mine. I was worried at first, because it was stuttering and puffs of steam came out of the machine, but no water. I ran it again, just in case. The 1 cup/2 cup lights were still flashing afterward. After shutting it off, then on again, it was back to normal. Phew! Thank you, Lifestyle Lab!
Thank you but all you did was reset the single shot button. When you press and hold the single and double shot buttons it allows you to reset the factory volumetric settings. How do you actually initiate the back flush cycle?
there is a way to enter a cleaning cycle manually, check the manual pg. 15 under Note. assets.breville.com/Instruction-Booklets/ANZ/BES500BSS_ANZ_IB_I21_FA_WEB.pdf
To manually enter the cleaning cycle mode before the cleaning cycle alert is triggered, press and hold 2 CUP and STEAM buttons simultaneously for five seconds when the unit is in off mode (all lights are off).
For me, no water comes through the portafilter and is instead forced through another exit into the drip tray? Is this right? Does it matter which filter basket you use?
@@LifestyleLab_ thank you so much for your quick reply! I was so worried I may have risked destroying the pressure system of the machine. So for me there’s no point in putting a container under the portafilter, that’s a just in case.
