Amy died from alcohol poisoning at the age of 27. Amy did go to rehab but relapsed. As someone who is an alcoholic and been to rehab, this song breaks my heart. Untreated addiction ends 1 of 3 ways. Institutions, Jail, & Death. She ended up in an institution - but after relapse & not trying again, her addiction killed her. I've seen it all too often around me. Grateful for being many years recovered now yet I have one day at a time. RIP Amy ❤🙏🏻 If you suffer from addiction, please get help. Personally, AA saved my life.

I always said the same thing! There's so much similarities in their lives and how they died and they were even the same age. Even musically, their styles were unusual for white girls to be doing at those times. They both paved way for a lot of female blue-eyed soul singers to make it big.

I loved Amy from the first time I heard her and I could just turn on her albums and let them play all they way through. Such a talented and beautiful woman and very missed.

In ”Back to Black” her voice worked really well with the sound, and the album is cohesive, but her suffering made it difficult for me enjoying the album. ”Love is a losing game” is my favourite track by her, I think she uses her voice very well in it. ❤️ From ”Frank” I like ”You sent me flying” most. It’s so sad that she didn’t get the opportunity to evolve.
Whenever you watch a documentary or read about her, the common factor is the old man- arguably more so than the husband, who was basically a co-dependent lost soul. There was one about her on the TV last night, which said that her life started to unravel with the death of her grandmother who was her main stabilising influence.
Indeed- I get the impression that her dad made a mint out his daughter's life and death. He was hardly off the TV after Amy's death, playing the grief card, when I believe that HE was the problem.

We didn't let her go, we pushed her over the edge, at least our obsession with her which fed the paparazzi onslaught did and made her life a prison which she had neither the tools nor the support to deal with, causing her to escape to bad relationships and drugs. I see a certain parallel between what happened to Amy and what's going on right now with Britney Spears, and it's frightening how both lack of support and over zealous support can destroy a person's life. In the end we are all responsible for our own success or failure but well (or not so well) meaning supporters can be as destructive as haters. R. I. P Amy

She really needed friends who could pull her away from her husband and father who exploited her and introduced her to drugs and should have seen what was going on. Just like Freddie Mercury I don't think there'll ever be another Any Winehouse, she's one of a kind. There's a reason they put a statue of her in Camden Market, London where she lived and was often seen. They don't do this for just anyone!!! I just wish someone good could have been there for her, that's what she really needed to pull her out of the drugs and life and was into. Was listening to Amy, Adele, Sade and Nora Jones yesterday and it made me realise that Amy, as far as I am concerned, had the best voice, after all Tony Bennett wouldn"t sing with just anyone. What a tragedy, waste and loss to all of us. To that person who introduced her to drugs, what can I say!

Amy was unique in every way. She was a gift to us all. I'm still heart broken over her death. If you want to hear a devastatingly beautiful song by her, listen to Love Is A Losing Game. I think it is her best work. She was even sick when she recorded it, but it is perfect. It draws out her raw talent, her amazing voice, and her precious vulnerability.
She needed to LIVE in rehab and record her albums from there. And to not be allowed to see any of the enablers she had in her life telling her it was fine.

Also, "Rehab" was released prior to "Back to black". I like very much your commenting in general! I remember watching and loving this video and "you know i'm no good' while in London (Dec 2006.) I came home to the US singing her songs but nobody here knew her music yet. I was so excited when she finally crossed over to the US and they started playing her music.

There is an excellent documentary called, "Amy" (directed by Asif Kapedia), a really nice guy I met at the premiere in LA (at the Grammy Museum). Her dad was actually a POS that exploited her and her bf was the same. She was extraordinary but had no one to turn to. An AMAZING artist. Gone too soon.
I was away for respite in Grenada and had this as my ringtone. Everytime the phone rang people would stop and listen and demand I play it again. That made me laugh. In my darkest times, in a lot of pain, my mother would say "Put on Amy" and I had some peace and could smile again. My mother and that little girl saved my life. Miss you both always. ❤
When she says "Yes, I've been black.", my understanding is that she's talking about an alcoholic blackout. And yes, her daddy thought she was just fine as long as she was making money for him. I have a hard time listening to this one since she died. I wish she had had someone looking out for her that she trusted and would listen to . Who knows, she might still be with us today. Take the box is one of my favorites by Amy Whinehouse. But, I love all of her songs. I think she said Dinah Washington is one of her faves which is where I think some of the raspy voice influence comes from. A lot of jazz and blues singers used that technique. Lol! The innocence! When she was talking about when she went black and came back, I’m pretty sure she was talking about blacking out from the alcohol/drugs and coming back from unconsciousness.

I'm extremely saddened by the fact that we will never be getting new music from Amy. Perhaps if she'd gone to rehab and truly got her life together she'd still be with us. Just think about what could have been. She has left us with a great music legacy though. RIP Amy.😢
You should check out the documentary called Amy on Netflix. I highly recommend it. Its very sad seeing her life spiral and we lost a rare talent. She didn't want the fame but the industry wanted her & she couldn't escape it

Amy was and still is a legend. Her story is so sad, you really need to watch the documentary film about her life, simply called Amy. She really needed friends who could pull her away from her husband and father who exploited her and introduced her to drugs and should have seen what was going on.
Just like Freddie Mercury I don't think there'll ever be another Any Winehouse, she's one of a kind. There's a reason they put a statue of her in Camden Market, London where she lived and was often seen. They don't do this for just anyone!!!
I just wish someone good could have been there for her, that's what she really needed to pull her out of the drugs and life and was into. I dread to think how big she would be now if that had happened, bigger than Adele I think. RIP Amy!!! You are very much missed and still in our hearts!!! ♥️
Was listening to Amy, Adele, Sade and Nora Jones yesterday and it made me realise that Amy, as far as I am concerned, had the best voice, after all Tony Bennett wouldn"t sing with just anyone. What a tragedy, waste and loss to all of us. To that person who introduced her to drugs, what can I say!

Amy was unique in every way. She was a gift to us all. I'm still heart broken over her death. If you want to hear a devastatingly beautiful song by her, listen to Love Is A Losing Game. I think it is her best work. She was even sick when she recorded it, but it is perfect. It draws out her raw talent, her amazing voice, and her precious vulnerability.

Think it was heart failure due to getting drunk. She had already been told by the doctor one more drink could kill you. Really sad. Such an unreal talent. She was planning a reggae album that never happened although She did do the cover of monkey man which is 👌👌👌

He was English so, yeah, Blue Eyed Soul. He also did a few covers, and although I usually HATE cover songs, Mr Palmer BROUGHT IT, if you know what I mean.

As soon as I heard this song on the radio, I knew I had to get the CD. Amy Winehouse. A great voice, great interpretive skill and just a great presence. It’s just sad that she and those around her couldn’t figure out a way to get her strong and help her stay strong to overcome the “demons“ in her life. RIP

"Love is a losing game" is my favorite Amy song, but all her songs are superb. She was born in the wrong generation definitely, probably the biggest talent of the 21th century so far.
"Yes, I've been black" is a British expression for "Yes, I've been drunk". The line therefore doesn't have a lot to do with Amy's other song that you mentioned "Back to black". Also, "Rehab" was released prior to "Back to black".

I remember watching and loving this video and "you know i'm no good' while in London (Dec 2006.) I came home to the US singing her songs but nobody here knew her music yet. I was so excited when she finally crossed over to the US and they started playing her music.

She died tragically of alcohol poisoning in 2011. There is an excellent documentary called, "Amy" (directed by Asif Kapedia), a really nice guy I met at the premiere in LA (at the Grammy Museum). Her dad was actually a POS that exploited her and her bf was the same. She was extraordinary but had no one to turn to. An AMAZING artist. Gone too soon.

I was away for respite in Grenada and had this as my ringtone. Everytime the phone rang people would stop and listen and demand I play it again. That made me laugh. In my darkest times, in a lot of pain, my mother would say "Put on Amy" and I had some peace and could smile again. My mother and that little girl saved my life. Miss you both always. ❤

I still feel very sad listening to her music. Loved her. I hope one day I can listen to her music with nothing but joy again.
When she says "Yes, I've been black.", my understanding is that she's talking about an alcoholic blackout. And yes, her daddy thought she was just fine as long as she was making money for him. I have a hard time listening to this one since she died. I wish she had had someone looking out for her that she trusted and would listen to . Who knows, she might still be with us today. How great would that be?
Take the box is one of my favorites by Amy Whinehouse. But, I love all of her songs. I think she said Dinah Washington is one of her faves which is where I think some of the raspy voice influence comes from. A lot of jazz and blues singers used that technique. Lol! The innocence! When she was talking about when she went black and came back, I’m pretty sure she was talking about blacking out from the alcohol/drugs and coming back from unconsciousness.

Amy attended the same Stage School (IE Performing Arts High School) with Adele & Jessi J. When she died at 27 she joined a list of folks who died at 27. Her, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, and Curt Kobain of Nirvana.

I'm extremely saddened by the fact that we will never be getting new music from Amy. Perhaps if she'd gone to rehab and truly got her life together she'd still be with us. Just think about what could have been. She has left us with a great music legacy though.

You should check out the documentary called Amy on Netflix. I highly recommend it. Its very sad seeing her life spiral and we lost a rare talent. She didn't want the fame but the industry wanted her & she couldn't escape it
