He won an Oscar because of this song...
Fact! 💫💫💫
And didn’t go to the ceremony bc he thought no way he’d win.
I think he was the first rapper to win
He was the first rap artist, then not long after Three Six Mafia won for Its Hard out there For a Pimp.
@@ashleydixon4613 He got a second chance last year and sang at the Oscars.
One of the greatest rap songs ever. This song ruled the airwaves. Legendary.
TWELVE WEEKS atop the Billboard Hot 100 and Eminem's first #1 hit song. Also the first rap song to win an Oscar.
Bro, i still hear this song on the radio like twice a month. And i live in Denmark 😅
And the crazy thing is, you're not exaggerating either.
Its crazy that last week it was charting #5 on i tunes
Still Rules Man!!✌️
My kids always think it's really funny that a housewife in her 50s would like Eminem - but why wouldn't I? I was only in my early 30s when his first songs came out, and he was so refreshing. He's so talented!
am 52 and i approve this message ! ;-)
I was 11 when The Real Slim Shady hit the radios. I only heard it because my mom got a cassette tape that was the best of the grammys that year
Right? I always get this "you like rap?!?" I was 11 when Rappers Delight hit, i"ve been listening ever since 🤷🏼♀️
I was just sitting here thinking what I am gonna look like at around 80 and bopping to some Eminem and soother music from my teens, etc. lol.
@@Sassyglbeauty My friends & I joke a lot about the retirement home we hope to find when we're "that age" (rapidly approaching). Chair aerobics to Rage Against the Machine? Karaoke to Smashing Pumpkins? Book groups to... Seriously, man, this is NOT your mother's retirement home.
I heard Eminem used to read the dictionary at night to expand his vocabulary... makes sense with some of the words he’s able to rhyme
True he has said it himself that's all he did and still does
He’s ridiculously smart! I’ve always heard that about him.
Saw his 60 Minutes interview.
I'm convinced Jay was raised by wolves in a cave, how has he never heard of all this music??
He’s really young, you gotta remember this is 21 years ago
also I think he said once he grew up in Jamaica and this kind of music was not around
We Jamaicans listen to every kind of music
@@wisdomblackwood5056 he meant in his family enviroment.......
@@NadNadja Not so, in Jamaica we listen to every kind of music, my Mum is in her late 80 and she loves the Rolling Stones. As a child I liked everything from Mariam Makeba, Tom Jones, Motown, Stax, Petula Clark, Skeeter Davies, Patsy Cline, Elvis, Fats Domino, I could go on and on. Everything from US radio stations we could pick up. Jamaica may be regarded as third world in status but we are not backward where music is concerned.
"you gotta give it to his worldplay" - dude: you're listening to best rap lyricist of all time
People that say Eminem did nothing for rap are either racist or stupid. He’s the goat for a reason
@@mike353 "people that don't share my opinion are dumb or bigoted"
You're the problem with the world, champ
@@basedredpilledo7939 What does that have to do with anything you homunculus? It is a fact Eminem had a giant impact on the rap community and it is a fact he’s the best lyricist still doing it today, yet people try to take that from him. That isn’t an opinion it’s just unfair bias from people gate keeping a form of entertainment. Get your head out your butt bro
@EndlessUre It’s “lose yourself” and that’s great. I recommend songs like Stan, Kill You, Criminal, The Way I Am, and Cleaning Out My Closet If you like hard lyrical controversial rap. If you’re more of a pop type maybe Not Afraid, Monster, Love The Way You Lie, Beautiful. If you like humorous rap Real Slim Shady, Without Me. Maybe story telling with Mocking Bird, When I’m Gone. Also og songs like My Name Is, Rock Bottom, Just Don’t Give A F. He has all types of rap albums and songs that most people will enjoy.
@EndlessUre Yeah he is a great word smith. There are rappers that just say random stuff without much meaning just because it sounds cool. But Eminem has always been a true artist in his ability to rhyme and tell a story, he’s like the modern day Shakespeare. Fun fact the word Stan originated from his song Stan about an obsessed fan and was put into the dictionary. Welcome to the Stan club 👍
This song helped me SO much growing up
I grew up poor in a trashy trailer park but this song inspired me to keep my head on straight and push forward and now Im a cafe owner in another country 🥰 amazingly inspiring song
Fuck, yeah. Go you. What country? :) I spent four years as a nomad and sort of dream of doing that too.
@@thefullnomad6543 New Zealand! But I love traveling as well! What countries would you visit?
@@morganwebb5244 What an amazing thing! I heard that people there are not just nice, they are simply the best, and the country is beautiful too. All my best for your cafe and your life, this is so inspirational.
Kudos!
You only get one shot, do not miss your chance to sell coffee, this opportunity comes once in a lifetime
A lot of people will laugh at anyone calling Eminem a genius, but anyone who really listens and understands at least most of his lyrics, and especially many of the references get their minds blown. Also the fact of how easy it is for him to do what he does so consistently.
He's up there with Dylan as a lyricist.
@@bigron1977 way up there 😁👍
"Mom's spaghetti" ...easy with those elaborate titles... I like Eminem but he's never blown my mind.
@@bigron1977 I was going to say the same thing - Dylan is the only person I can compare him to on impact, skill, and relevance. I think when history goes back and looks at the poets of this generation, Eminem will be considered as one of the best.
@@chrisw3421 you are basing your opinion on one phrase from one song. I’m not a fan (although I generally like him), but if you actually listen/read some of the lyrics from his work as a whole, you can’t deny he is very gifted
so many of his old songs are crazy good... 'wihtout me', 'stan', the whole 'marshall mathers lp', 'the eminem show' lp
@ALICE IN CHAINS exactly
new stuff is good too don’t be a casual
'Cleaning out my Closet' always gets to me. I just want to give him a big hug.
Slim shady lp also
Don’t forget rap god
He won an Oscar for this song. Not a Grammy, an Oscar! For Best song in motion picture. He didn’t go to the ceremony because he never thought he would win. Too bad he wasn’t there to accept it in person.
Pretty sure he recently preformed at the Oscar
He DID win both Oscar and Grammy awards for Lose Yourself.
@@RedxLilxSleepy Yes, years after he won. It was almost an in joke.
@@laurettelaliberte8864 yeah, it was so weird.
This was written for "8 Mile", not so "loosely" based on his life. Bruh! You have no clue just how talented this man truly is. You have to peel his bars, there is so many layers. Yes my man, he is a complete genius. I can name like 57 songs right off the dome that are 🔥. And if you like songs with a message, he is always with those. Not Afraid is a popular one (streamed over a BILLIAN times)...
And he wrote it on set between filming scenes!
Some of his other tracks also focus on hard life or stardom . Like the one about reasons to kill, or the autobiographical "without me" .
NO ONE spins words like Em. No one.
You talk about his wordplay. He actually studies the dictionary to come up with his rhymes. Hes a expert wordsmith.
This was Em’s life. He writes about his childhood a lot. His wordsmith abilities are astounding. Watch the movie 8 Mile (this song is from this movie) and that is based on Em’s life.
8 Mile & this song are so intrinsically tied together that you kinda need to have a full reaction to the movie too.
Definitely!
Oh hells yeah!!!!
“You can do anything you set your mind to man.”
*Straight facts*
“I bully myself 'cause I make me do
What I put my mind to” - Eminem Rap God
I'm an old guy and I think Eminem is a brilliant artist.
His Oscar Winning song from the movie LOOSELY based on his life, 8-Mile.
Side note.... you really need to listen to Stan by Eminem ft Dido. Lyrical genius! xx
Eminem and Dre were made to work together. They produce magic
I can't stand the guy but he won the Oscar for this song and absolutely deserved it.
This is how you appreciate talent even if it's not your thing. Em is a genius, I've always listened to him myself. Plus it's probably his alter ego Slim Shady you don't like really! the man himself Marshal Mathers is such a down to earth honest hard working bloke, you could watch some recent interviews from recent years, and you might see him in a different light.
Props to you...got past your impression and gave credit.....that’s rare these days especially on social media platforms
@@HalfdeadRider I think he grew up in such tough straits that he should get carte blanche for all the shit he did and said before age 30. I like his older wiser self too.
@@thefullnomad6543 Yea mate, pity the cost of fame is freedom. Unless he rides motorcycles and uses a dark visor 😎 Ludacris still rides as far as I'm aware, it's a good way to feel free, and easy to blend in.
Just discovered your channel tonight while searching for Kate Bush - Babooshka. Think you’re my new favourite thing
Yeap you get drawn in like this ... Jay has that effect on you....enjoy... I do.🤟
He's so positive and has a great ear for music!
You’re up for a treat !
Jay is the BEST!!! Watch his queen, Pink Floyd, pentatonix and Adele reactions! Omg! His Nancy Sinatra boots are made for walking reaction is what hooked me!!!
Mood!
The 2020 Oscar performance with the amazing intro video was simply Epic! ❤🇮🇹✌
You got to watch 8 Mile Jay. Also, I think he's a freakin' genius. 100 years ago he would be a published poet of eminence.
He has an intensity in his delivery... it just works 👏🏾
Classic Eminem. Listen to more of his stuff. He’s a genius
I'm not a fan but i think his lyrics are brilliant and a few of his songs are really catchy -great if you are in a bad mood 🤣
He is a lyrical genius.
Stan is always a song that sticks out in my mind.
That last bit before the final chorus... this man was killing it.
best part
Slim Shady has so many great og songs glad you found him
I hate rap music, but I always make an exception for Eminem; the guy is an enigma, so ridiculously talented, a lyrical GENIUS, and his songs have a lot of depth and meaning 👏🏾👏🏾
Can I recommend trying NF, i have the same thing, and this dude gives me the same awestruck feeling
@@dominickskinner407damn straight
Same here. Not a rap fan AT ALL, but he is SO talented...
Sing for the moment, Stan, Like toy soldiers, Love the way you lie, River, Mockingbird and so many more amazing songs. I prefer his older songs than his recent songs.
Have you not listened to anything off of MTBMB side A or B? Its actually better than his older stuff
Did you not hear the song/watch the video for Gnat, about Corona virus, which came out 4 months ago? It’s freakin’ brilliant!!! Go watch!!!
@@ashkanserat what songs would you recommend?
@@Rustywba literally the entire Music to be murdered by side A and side B. A few songs are not my flavor but overall they are very good albums
Sing for the moment is one of my favs
Listening to Eminem for the first time is like an awakening, one of the greatest rappers
of our time... Thank you JayVee
I was never an Eminem fan back in the day, not my type of music, but like Britney Spears Toxic even I couldn't deny this was a great song.
Check out the Sufrajettes cover
Got to love classic Eminem.
😍😍😍
He studied all the greats of rap and hip hop, and developed his skills over time, with help from Dr.Dre and everyone around him. Not to mention all the challengers he had, that pushed him to become better.
His word play is dope? Yes he is the 🐐 . Welcome
I really hate this trend y’all started naming everyone “the goat”! There can’t be 20,000 goats. This generation is so out of touch lol
em called himself a goat and most people agree with him he is an absolute king in the rap game
@@shawnoxley1501 * insert appropriate Rap God quip *
@@salwashabazz7329 but he is literally the goat. Not sure what you mean. I'm not callin him the goat to be trendy...its the absolute truth
@@ashkanserat: Who else do you call the Goat? Lol
Everyday, 24/7, all you see is he’s the Goat...or she’s the Goat! That shit is real corny and makes no sense smh lol. I bet none of you know who or where that nickname really came from 🤔
that's why he won the Oscar against a musical movie like Chicago no less
Eminem is great! His music is deep. His emotion is very relatable and that makes his music easy to listen to. His music is very unique. Glad you chose to react to him.
He was on 60 minutes and showed a box filled with scraps of paper that he had written with possible lyrics. As he was being interviewed, he had a thought and had to stop so he could jot it down. Fascinating to watch.
“He’s grown farther from home, he’s no father. He goes home and barely knows his own daughter.”
Damn…That’s just…damn…
Yes, this song has played at a lot of graduation 🎓. The lyrics are so powerful.👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾Please check out 8 mile the movie
Having grown up in Detroit and having family that lived where Em grew up gives me such appreciation for these lyrics.
You should react to the final rap battle from 8-Mile. It's him, Anthony Macky and Michah Pfifer on stage. It's its own video, you don't need to see the whole movie.
Yep.
Any relationship to Michelle Pfifer, the hugely famous supermodel?
I think this was in a commercial last year. Eminem is a LEGEND. Definitely worth looking into.
That last verse is a thing of beauty. I get chills listening to it even now.
You'll probably like the movie 8 Mile where the song came from, semi-autobiographical movie of Eminem starring Eminem, it's really good.
Great song choices today Jay❤❤
HE DID THE MOVIE 8 MILE, WHILE WRITING THE SONGS IN THE MOVIE AS WELL. AWESOME UNDER DOG TRIUMPHS MOVIE
2 Words... “8 Mile”... WATCH IT💯💯💯
This song won an Oscar, but Eminem didn't go because he was babysitting & he didn't think it would win cos it was a rap song - but it won! Definitely check out '8 mile' - it's loosely based on Em's life. Thanks for your reaction to one of THEE best rap songs in history. And it's songs like THIS that make Eminem THEE GOAT! No-one can surpass his vocabulary, double/triple entendres, rhyming schemes - the man is a human dictionary/thesaurus. More Em please - dive into that extremely deep rabbit hole! Not Afraid is another excellent example of his legendary storytelling rap ability - Cleanin Out My Closet, SpaceBound, Stan, I Need A Doctor, The Way I Am, Sing For The Moment, RAPGOD....the list is endless. IMO 'Darkness' is his Masterpiece - untouchable on every level.
In the UK we call Eminem a poet 🤷🏻♀️
🇬🇧😎
He’s like hooded shakespeare.
this song turned me into his fan. everyone needs to hear this message... everyone needs internal inspiration and something to push them to grab an opportunity!
I’m nearly 59 and I lived this song the first time I heard it and still do. Eminem is an incredible wordsmith who doesn’t tell a story as much as he paints a picture. The music that supports his songs is always exquisite. His music is painful and joyful both at the same time
Such a good lyricist
Eminem, the guy who made me to like rap style
so under-rated for the genius lyracist he is - I'm not even a huge fan but can really appreciate his lyrics
Watch his performance of this at the Oscars (last year), the audience's reaction was amazing.
This song was the theme song to 8 Mile, a film based on himself
A total masterpiece.
This song was from his movie 8 Mile and actually won the Academy Award for best original song that year.
Eminem is a really great storyteller. So many great songs. He's a wordsmith
I'm not even a huge fan, I'm a metal chick, but you have to acknowlege brilliance when you see it, no matter what genre.
Great reaction as always, you are such a positive and genuine person Jay.
I could come up with a song request for basically all your videos I've seen, but "Eminem - Role Model" is indeed a listen worthwhile.
8 Mile is his movie! Great artist! Check out more truth with "Cleanin Out My Closet", Jam to a beat with "Shake That" with Nate Dogg & "Without Me"
Dude you really need to watch "8 Mile" 🇮🇪😉
I loved this so much! I'm not a huge Eminem fan, but this song is one that has always spoken to me, and I have nothing but huge respect for him as an artist. He really pours his heart out in this song and as a fellow creative person I feel it.
Peace, light and love to all, stay safe, keep strong and we will all get through this together.
I'm not much for rap, there are very few rap songs I like, but when this song came out, even I was impressed! He's quite the lyricist, he plays with syllables making words and phrases rhyme that shouldn't! I'm impressed with Eminem's music even though I don't really want to be!🤣😂
A fun one from Eminem and Dre is "Without Me"
You can't watch the video without a big smile 🙂
I can not believe there are people who have not heard this song before.🤯
You're making me feel really old right now. I've listened to Eminem since the late 90s. Hell I grew up only a couple of miles from where he lived and remember when infinite came out in 96. I was young (37 now) but I remember hearing the song from some older kids and liking it. I've paid attention to his music ever since.
I grew up listening to this song and I always really loved it but watching you listen to it for the first time made me listen with fresh ears. Made me fall in love with it all over again...
Easily my favorite Eminem song. Definitely very encouraging, motivating, and complex. If you see the movie "8 Mile" that features this song and stars Eminem and Mekhi Phifer, you'll see even more relevance and references he makes in the song. Plus, the instrumentals in this song are iconic.
The big difference between Marshall and so many others is that you can actually hear what he's saying. Now PLEASE listen to ''Stan'' - the long version. Another excellent story being told.
This song delivers such a strong encouraging message 🌠... Besides that you can't help yourself getting lost in the beat and imagine his air management 😱✌🏻
What a brilliant and talented artist, glad you selected this one
Now that this is in your head, maybe check out Couch Potato by Weird Al. That's Weird Al's version of this song.
Also needs to watch the interview with both of them for that song lol
Yes, this is his autobiography. His absolute BEST. He's so talented. It's a shame he's such a jerk.
Like so many artists who are told their fantastic, wonderful, brilliant....they get a big head and think their💩 don't stink. Great song by him though.
love your mood man, keep up the good work!
Why he's a great lyricist is he's like a poet...just read lyrics without the song...pure poetry in all his songs...
He played this live at last years Oscars award show
Watch the movie 8 Mile... it's about Eminem aka "Marshall Mathers" growing up in the HOOD ☮️✌️
This is my all time favorite song, just the words the momentum of the beat everything about it is perfection😌😌
Clearly explains his life and feeling, how he stayed motivated and how he made it
I love Eminem, such a talented songwriter.... This is, IMO, his best song by far! ❤️ xx
“You heard this tune”, bro, this song is single handedly THE most famous song in the world. Period.
no
Used to jam to this song in highschool with friends.. good old early 2000s..when there was no social media shit, everything was golden and precious.
This is my favorite Eminem song, reminds me of that opportunity I was able to go to the school I always wanted to study... they played this song when I was applying.
Sh*t these videos make me feel old.
Love your reviews. Big Emimen fan! If your new to him, start with his older music from early 2000's please! & might wanna keep those subtitles up too lol💜
Lol thank you and I started typing the subtitles out but I didn’t finish it.
The only way to make your dreams come true is to wake up
Ive always loved his flow and writing. For me nothing better than great flow and wordplay combined.
This song motivated me so much in life. From getting myself into college, getting myself into uni and eventually a job. My parents lived on benefits/welfare and didn't know how to do any of that stuff so I did it all on my own and I have partly (amongst other things) this song to thank for helping me to foster the drive that I needed.

Hey this is random but you should check out 'High And Dry' by Radiohead! Much Love!
Enough to make a grown man cry....just magical 💫💫💫🔥🔥
One of the best songs on my work out playlist
This is real rap. Not the junk that’s come out lately. Enjoy the ride.
Not completely true though, Eminem is releasing the best albums around still himself. Also many new artists from recent years are just as good as old rap we grew up listening to, you not heard the likes of Hopsin? very inspired by Eminem himself.
@@HalfdeadRider oh I totally agree. I think MTBMB is his best album yet just for the song Book Of Rhymes alone. I was more talking of mumble rap. I love Hopsin, Joyner, Kendrick, etc...
Check out “Stan” you gotta do the dirty version, every other version is censored.
the lyrics to this gives me chills!
From Michigan and his music was on every station here. He really is an icon here
One of my favorite songs.. I an old prudy grandma.. but I think everyone can relate to this song in some way.
One of the strongest things this song has going for it, some of his other music too, but this song especially, is it has universal appeal. By that what I mean is, EVERYONE can hear this song, and feel the message. There is no one who can hear these words and not feel some resonance with them. This isn't music that speaks to one location, or one city, or one demographic, or one culture. The message conveyed by the song is universal.
That's what draws so many people in. Why people who otherwise could look past nearly anything rap stop and listen. Why it's one of the best songs, not only of his career, but of music made in damn near the last hundred years. Everyone can listen to it, and put themselves into those words. And the fact that they come from him and aspects of the life he actually lived makes it more authentic, and more powerful.
I love this song so much. I know all the words. He is quite the wordsmith.
During my teenage years I was obsessed with Eminem. Thank God I'm Italian and my parents didn't understand a word of these songs. He's a genius. I knew the album The Eminem Show by heart!
