I lived in Fountain Valley from 3-years-old to 22-years-old. My father still lives there. And one of my daughters moved in with him a few years ago. My family has a lot of history there. And it really is a nice place to live.
I know Nacho and I miss his food. I used to eat there when it was Nicks. But when the Pho guy bought the restaurant he remodeled it and took away all our memories that we grew up with. I'm 51 years old. I went to that restaurant restaurant since I was a kid. He just took out all the memories that we had and just made it look like this generic looking place with horrible annoying lighting And this lamp in the back that you have to look at the bulbs it's like this sphere hanging from the ceiling. He took out most of the tables which makes it hard for bigger people like myself who have a hard time sitting in the booths. He killed a landmark and our memories. He could have just bought the place and kept it looking like the home it was to many of us. I will never eat there. It breaks heart and I used to eat there 2 or 3 times a week.
I recommend both very highly, FV Pizza D'Z is absolutely delicious, the pizza was great and that lasagna was phenominal! The Reptile Zoo is too cool, really good lighting in there!
We moved there in 1963 and I loved the OC! All open land and no traffic signals, no traffic either. The roads were crap but it slowed us down so we could avoid the farm equipment. The bach was a straight shot down Brookhurst and downtown Huntington beach was just up the hill and hang a left. A young mans hobbies were usually cars and surfing. By the late 60s the area was turning into housing tracks as far as the eye could see. Streets were widened and stop signs were replaced with signals. Shopping centers sprung up with superstores replacing the mom and pop businesses. Traffic became a nightmare and smog-free Orange County was a thing of the past, on calm days it stunk like LA! The city council decided Huntington Beach should be modernized so they tried to make downtown look like little Miami? They even closed main street to through traffic. One day I noticed it was easy to get lost in the little towns when trying to use the old shortcuts. I moved and the only time I returned was to visit the folks still living in Fountain Valley. It's gotten unrecognizable so I have never gone back. Time marches on!
That it does, and many cities are so unrecognizable from the ones they used to be so it's understandable not feeling the same in it any more. I left my home town less then 10 years ago and it already looks much different to me as well. Your change was far more drastic. Still I hope you enjoyed the window we could give you back to an old home!

Unfortunately today Fountain Valley is losing its uniqueness and diversity and becoming a second the Little Saigon buisness and resident wise.
