Thanks Don. Very helpful. Just returning from the EU with some small appliances that need stepped down and wanted to make sure I had the settings right. Now I will !!
I have this exact trasformer but will not power a 240v HP printer. The Printers manual says... (220-volt input voltage: 220 to 240 VAC (+/- 10%), 50 Hz (+/- 3 Hz), 60 Hz (+/- 3 Hz); Power consumption: 381 watts (active printing). I thought by buying this 500w tranformer would be enough but the printer still will not power on. Any Ideas??
This unit is probably overkill for a Playstation at 35watts. Yes, it will work but they sell smaller ones on Amazon and eBay. You can buy a 50watt step-up transformer for $10-$15. Or there are 100watt around $20. They are smaller and would be more energy efficient for your use.
So I am in Europe right now do use the hair dryer it’s 110 from United States what I should connect to the back of the machine the plug in the back which one do I need to choose 110 or 220 to plug in the front
I watched your video and enjoyed it a lot. You sound like you know what you’re doing. With that in mind I have a question. I have an old 1940 drill press that I want to put a 1/2 hp 3 phase motor on. I bought a Transformer to step up the 110 from my garage plug in to 220. Here’s the question: is that all I need? All I have to do is plug the transformer in the wall and the 3 phase motor into the transformer. I also bought a VFD to regulate the rpm’s. Any advice will greatly be appreciated…..
Thanks for a very informative review, I bought a nice vintage sewing machine from United Kingdom a year ago and It came with 220v setup. I replaced the motor and foot control with a 110v motor when I got it but I've been wanting to get it back to original condition and having seen your video I figured that a converter is the best way to go. Gracias, enjoyed your easy viewing camera work and easy listening.
Don, I have a Yinleader Step Up & Step Down Voltage Transformer Power Converter,Convert 220V to 110V or 110V to 220V (500W) that does not seem to be working, where do you suggest I get some troubleshooting or fixed?

A clothes dryer for laundry? Definitely not. While it is the proper voltage, this is only 500 watts. Look at the manufacture label on the back of your dryer and see what it says for watts. Dryers are usually 1800 to 5000 watts.
Hello I am currently overseas and dealing with some American 110 electronics and some 220 in the house. Plugs are minimal. I have one side for 110 and the other Plug is 220. Can I use both sides of the converter at once. Basically run my American and European electronics off the same box?
Hi Don, I have a 240v source of energy with three wires that I want to step down to 120v. The black wire is hot, white neutral is hot, and a ground. I want to wire it to a receptacle that plugs with the input cord of this transformer. Can I maintain the same black hot wire, neutral hot, and green ground or do I have to change it? Thanks!!!
I got this to use it for my Tesla coil. The transformer uses 200W and the Tesla coil uses 150w. The Tesla coil uses 220v and I plug it into the 220v with the switch on 110v because I’m using 110v to convert it. Now the issue is everytime I plug it into my transformer it blows the fuse everytime I try turning the Tesla coil on. Any suggestions? I cant get the tesla coil to work because of the transformer
I’m curious about this too. What did you do? Did you get this one? If so, how is it working for you? If not, which one did you get? And how is that other working out for you?
Please elaborate on what curing oven? For like digital printing (films)? An autoclave? The short answer is that it most likely cannot. You'll need to ask or look at the label on the oven for the required watts.
Absolutely not, even the small 1-2 elements countertop stoves has a power rating of 1.5Kw and up (2 elements, small and big - 1Kw+1.5Kw, total of 2.5Kw)
Are we able to buy a higher wattage step up/step down converter? I'm looking into buying a BGA rework station and those are only available in 220v models.
I have an other one its older. I have to plug the wires in certain number 0-0-90-110-125-220 I want the wall outlet to be 110 and the 220 is for an ac, how do i need to insert the wires?
The question is. If at 230v my appliance needs 38 amps. How does the converter handle the current. At 110 I’d need double the Amps? Now needing 76 amps to make up for the loss in volts? How does a converter handle this? Confusion.
I bought a 5000W converter tp run a welder and now i wish i got the 10000W to run a kiln . You cant go wrong if you go bigger but just make sure you wont need later if you settle for less wattage
I bought this same transformer to convert 120 to 240 and couldn’t figure out why the thing wouldn’t work, even called my electrician buddy and all. Come to find out after watching your video you have to use that small adapter to actually get the 240 volt or else you only get one leg of 240. Anyways thanks for the video you saved me some time and headache.
Sorry no, this device only converts 500 watts, it would nee to be much bigger. In the USA, all homes have 220, yo may just need an outlet added. Call an electrician, they shoud be able to give a free quote. Good luck with your project.
Some people are using these for a model of Cpap machine that has this issue where it takes like an hour to power up. They say it works. However, I see some that have european and usa power plugs. My question is...as an American who may travel to Europe soon and has this cpap with the power up issue, I'd like to use this thing in europe too. Will it work if I plug it in with the other power cord? Or will it do nothing because the power there is already 220? In other words, what happens if you plug a 110 to 220 converter into something that's already 220? And in my case, where the cpap machine supposedly calls for any voltage, but people say this helps them in a usa outlet with this model that's a little sketchy, will it work both here and in europe for this application?
You should be able to plug in the USA plug directly into the 220v side without the adapter. A word of caution is someone (like a kid) who doesn't realize this could plug in a 110v appliance into that plug.
nice work will this gadget be able to handle an air compressor for nail guns from japan (110) to nz (220)? it will be used daily so it’ll will be quite a bit
So I just purchased this, and I’m curious if you by chance know if that two pin/N.A adapter is able to run 220 through say a universal male plug? The wife bought me a tig welder and I got this to run it 220 instead of 110. Curious because I have heavy duty male adapters for 10g extension cords but no 220 plugs. Any help is greatly appreciated as I can’t find much on the subject 🤦🏻♂️ TIA!
I have a 220v motor that I'm trying to run from 110v and this seems like the solution. The wire from motor has 4 wires: black, red, green, and blue. Will this motor work with this step up converter?
Great demo. Earlier, another viewer asked if one can run a 220v welder from a 110 outlet w this device. I would say yes, bc the "power" going to the welder is 220 as the welder requires. Not sure if the device one wishes to use off the transformer makes a difference. So, again, bottom line, can a 220 welder be operated safely from a 110 American outlet?
And just what are you going to weld with it. You might get the fan to turn on but in most cases, as soon as you struck an arc it would blow the fuse or worse. A low wattage MIG or TIG unit isn't going to hack it either. Most take a 15 or 20 Amp 120 Volt circuit as the minimum and that is far more wattage than that transformer would handle. When you go up to 240 volts, most run on a 50 Amp service.
Greetings friend ina asks what is the difference from the AC.100W to the one you have that is AC.500w? From AC 100W to AC 500W? the 500 watt transformer is 400 watts more than what you have. Look at the label on the back (or bottom) of your Yamaha YC-45, it should tell you the needed volts and watts. I did a Google search and your Yamaha YC-45 looks to be 30 watts. Your 100 watt step up transformer should work. Your Yamaha YC-45 might be broken, blown fuse, etc. Make sure the outlet you are plugging into works, the device is on, etc.

I wonder if this can run an electric stove because I been wanting one of those but I don't have 220v at the house and it cost alot to have it set-up... Anyone know? Or is it to much wattage that those stoves pull ?
dreamkiss4u you need to know the amps of the stove so you can multiply the amps and volts to get the watts to order the correct transformer. The one he has is only 500 watts
I'm in the same boat and looking for something to power my Yamaha HS5 speakers I got in the UK. Can you tell me if you've got this and did the frequency difference have an effect?
Souma I didn’t end up getting it. I got the one by ACUPWR since it was the only one I could find online *not* made in China. Can’t take any risks with music equipment ya know.
so this step-up transformer will let me plug in a 220v clothes dryer plug into the transformer itself then the transformer into a 110v apartment socket outlet just to be sure?? thanks
No. Voltage is not power rating - common domestic heated appliances (laundry dryer, hair dryer, water heater, coffee and hot water dispensers, etc..) has a power rating of 1.5-3.5 Kw (kilo-watt, 1000 watt) *this unid gives a max of 0.5 Kw* Most cheap converters won't reach even half of that, not practical since the converter has it's own power consumption, and production+shipping gets more expensive because of components+weight (look at the size of that transformer - for 500w, for a dryer you need it to be around x5 in size 😅).
@Don brandt Greetings friend ina asks what is the difference from the AC.100W to the one you have that is AC.500w? It won't if it is anything bigger than a 1/2 HP motor. Which I would never use on any size lathe bigger than a 6" one. The 12" downstairs has a 1HP 240V motor on it and at times have thought that a 1.5 HP 3 phase would be nice so that I could get speeds between what the belts and gears offer.
sir, i bought vaccum cleaner from japan with a rating of 100v, 1000w power consumption, 50-60hz. i would to ask your expertise as what rating of transformer should i buy so i can use it in the philippines which uses 220v. i shall appreciate your reply
According to the manufacture description on Amazon, Yes. Most devices these days will work on both 50/60hz. But I would check the device label. If you have something that is specifically 50hz, then I would ask the seller on Amazon to clarify. But according to their description, yes.
What about a kitchen appliance, that indicates 600W? Should I step up from 300W to the next model, 600W? My hair dryer, also from Germany, indicates 800V.......will it work? I have absolutely no clue on electricity topics..... Thanks
Depends on voltage, in the USA hair dryers are typically 1500w 110 Volts. IN other countries the voltage may be 220 and require about half the watts. In any case, this devise is only 600watt, so no it wont work. also, any appliance with a compressor will have a start load.
What is the load rating of the router? Even though a transformer may be rated at that, it will only draw that much if it is under about a 2700 Watt load. What is the socket voltage at your location at? Voltage that can vary over the day can be a problem. At one time, we saw voltages as low as 95 Volts and as high as 135 Volts in the same day.
Wire up 2 male extension cords to a 220v female receptacle - white on both sides tied together and put to the side, both green to ground and one black for left one for right - then use an extension cord to plug into different outlets in your home so they are not on the same breaker, not in the same room

@@jaredwaldrip8211 Mine is rated 204-240v
Thanks for this!! ordering something from Australia and this helped me allot!!
Your Welcome Trey, thanks for the comment as well!!!
@@DonBrandt what amperage can this step up deliver? No mention anywhere 👀
thank you, I'm setting up music equipment brought in from overseas so this is great
I'm in the same boat and looking for something to power my Yamaha HS5 speakers I got in the UK. Can you tell me if you've got this and did the frequency difference have an effect?
Souma I didn’t end up getting it. I got the one by ACUPWR since it was the only one I could find online *not* made in China. Can’t take any risks with music equipment ya know.
so this step-up transformer will let me plug in a 220v clothes dryer plug into the transformer itself then the transformer into a 110v apartment socket outlet just to be sure?? thanks
No. Voltage is not power rating - common domestic heated appliances (laundry dryer, hair dryer, water heater, coffee and hot water dispensers, etc..) has a power rating of 1.5-3.5 Kw (kilo-watt, 1000 watt)
*this unid gives a max of 0.5 Kw*
Most cheap converters won't reach even half of that, not practical since the converter has it's own power consumption, and production+shipping gets more expensive because of components+weight (look at the size of that transformer - for 500w, for a dryer you need it to be around x5 in size 😅).
Good info, looking at one to power a well
@Don brandt Greetings friend ina asks what is the difference from the AC.100W to the one you have that is AC.500w? I am dealing with a yamaha yc-45 that they sent from germany with a 220volt plug but here in the united states it is less buy one of it # 100 by mistake but I still don't have it in my hands I don't know if that could damage the organ graviaa I wait for a response
How can this 220v 500w .5a run the lathe under load?
INPUT?
It won't if it is anything bigger than a 1/2 HP motor. Which I would never use on any size lathe bigger than a 6" one. The 12" downstairs has a 1HP 240V motor on it and at times have thought that a 1.5 HP 3 phase would be nice so that I could get speeds between what the belts and gears offer.
Would this work as a lv2 ev changer
Do you mean charger? I have the same question if so.
sir, i bought vaccum cleaner from japan with a rating of 100v, 1000w power consumption, 50-60hz. i would to ask your expertise as what rating of transformer should i buy so i can use it in the philippines which uses 220v. i shall appreciate your reply
this the 220v convert the 50hz to the 60z?
Can it charge tesla
i want to buy one of these to power my cnc router that is 220v ..if i buy a 3000watt transformer would i need a 30A 110 circuit?
What is the load rating of the router? Even though a transformer may be rated at that, it will only draw that much if it is under about a 2700 Watt load. What is the socket voltage at your location at? Voltage that can vary over the day can be a problem. At one time, we saw voltages as low as 95 Volts and as high as 135 Volts in the same day.
is this gonna work with washer or dryer in u.s.a
No, a dryer requires 1800 to 5000 watts, this is only 500 watts
Could this work for a tanning bed that’s 220
Wire up 2 male extension cords to a 220v female receptacle - white on both sides tied together and put to the side, both green to ground and one black for left one for right - then use an extension cord to plug into different outlets in your home so they are not on the same breaker, not in the same room
No, they’re at least 1600-3200 watts as a minimum.
is that safe? is there a shutter off when the 220 volts is not functioning?
It has a fuse. It is in a grounded metal box. If used as intended, it should be safe. These are common devices.
