  • I begin part one with an overview of the build strategy including parts selection, lube mods as well as special tools needed to assemble this transmission. I then move into the sub-assemblies, showing you how to use the special lip seal protection/installation tools for all of the apply pistons. The pump, drums and gear train are also assembled and all clutch pack clearances measured and adjusted as needed to meet clearance specifications.
Note - this a re-upload as the previous version was messed up.

Nick, thanks for responding about the air test plate...i have a question for you...i was air checking my trans and applied air to wrong hole...i had the pump and stator like you did in the test you showed...when i applied to the wring hole the intermediate blew out...cut the seal...my new seal i had to get was a thin lip and the org and the one in my trans kit from oregon trans was a fat lip....is there any reason to not use the thin lip ?

Hey man, I'd use the thicker, fatter lip for better sealing.
      Thank you for watching!

I needed to do a case swap on one of those back in the 80s. The rear of the case was worn where the sealing rings on the output shaft cut grooves in the case, so I did a case swap. I learned later that a tool and driver was available to repair this area much like when the governor on a 350 or 700R4 wore out the bore in the case. After boring out the case, you would drive in a sleeve to repair the bore. I didn't do enough of the AODs to warrant buying the tool. I'm guessing that if they made a tool for this that it must have been a problem for that particular transmission.

Hey Peter, thanks for making me aware of a "case saver" repair kit for those, wasnt sure if anything existed for them or not.
