- A bear stopped traffic when it wandered onto a busy Southern California freeway in the Antelope Valley Tuesday.
This video aired on the KTLA 5 Morning News on May 16, 2024.

Hopefully the bear got through safely.

On a dark desert highway, cool breeze in my fur. The smell of vehicles emissions rising up through the air. Up ahead in the distance, I saw a thousand headlights!
There should be a tunnel built under the highway for wildlife animals to cross safely.
Poor bear.
That tunnel would become an encampment in no time.

Usually fauna overpasses are the better option
Hopefully we get more wildlife overpasses built over time. A tunnel wouldn't be great because plenty of animals would be nervous about entering an enclosed space with potential predators. Plus possible flooding.

We love our California bears! They are waking up from hibernation in search of food. Unfortunately, due to human pollution, the lakes and rivers have no fish. Bears 🐻 like to swim and eat fish. The. valleys have no fruits, nuts, and berries. Just the concrete jungle. He is waking up to traffic, car, accidents and human pollution. There are no antelope left in antelope Valley. The only thing on Pearblossom Highway is crumpled steel . Shame on California! Less human pollution, and more environmentally friendly Wildlife 🙏❤️🐾

I live south of the freeway that separates us from the bears, everyone living north of the freeway is in bear country so they get visited all the time.

Poor bear. 😕 They're instinctual. Even when they attack humans (which is actually SUUUPER rare), you can bet that it's because their instincts and adrenaline are commanding them to do so.
Freeways, technology, and all that scary stuff must be utterly bonkers to them. In only a few hundred years, they've had to endure mankind's "growth". It must seem as if "metal beasts" have taken over, but they also don't really "come charging at us" (the bears), and obviously, the metal monsters travel in giant hordes. Weird stuff for a bear to witness.
