Gotta love how the Dad viewed the repairs to their kitchen as simply “inconvenient” & that this didn’t equal having to give up Terry & in turn saved the babies! A beautiful example of a proud-of-his Dad son who is clearly loved. The babies names are hysterical! Applause too for not selling them to individuals!!
Yessssssssss...
Sweet boy. He makes his dad feel so proud with his affirmation.
To me an octopus is like an orca, it should not be in a tank. They are highly intelligent creatures and deserve to be free.
Should a creature's intelligence (by our reckoning) decide how much it deserves freedom?
@@TrueSeed-ft1jn yes. Its awareness of captivity is what should earn its freedom. It’s likely a goldfish doesn’t care about being in a small tank, but I’d say an intelligent parrot or octopus should have more space.
I agree. It's a living creature. Not a toy. Not an "alien." So cruel to have it sent in the mail. What if she had the babies while she was in that small bag?? These people would have had a mess on their hands when they opened their package!! And then to make it live all alone in a tank. No, just no.
@@EM-mw2qr
Exactly 💯
@@donnagpalk912 Thank you. I'm glad you agree.
Most octopuses that you can purchase are actually caught from the wild and then sold to keep as pets. There is very little regulation. So there is a high chance Terrance was already pregnant when she was essentially taken.
I was gonna say that’s the only way I can think she had babies because looks like there are no other octopuses in the tank.
This is cruelty.
@EM-mw2qr better than become takoyaki, they're cute, they're intelligence, but they're also delicious 😭 but octopus usually rapidly aging and die after mating (for male) and after the egg hatch (female) so maybe become takoyaki is not that bad?
@@AyumieAyumia-ld7is Being eaten is probably not as bad as being mailed somewhere, stuck in a dark envelope for days with no food, all alone unable to even move, plus starting to give birth. And then the poor thing lives in a tank all alone for the rest of it's life, being gawked at and called an alien by a weird rich kid. I had a lovely coworker who used to eat small portions of octopus and before she ate it she would very respectfully say "I thank God for putting this octopus in the ocean". It's much less cruel and more natural to eat them than it is to torture them for the rest of their life like the people in this video are doing.
@@monicarenee7949 Yeah but - they are "alien" - maybe they have an adaptable reproductive system if they are all alone.
I give that dad a lots of credit for his patience not to mention his love for his son who has an octopus obsession maybe some day that little boy will grow up to be a marine biologist and save the oceans of the world from human destruction
"I think he nailed it" and the dads smile. So wholesome
Sad Fact: The female octopus lays her eggs and dedicates the remainder of her life to protecting them. She stops eating, slowly starves, and once her offspring are ready to hatch, she dies. This self-sacrifice ensures the eggs are safe from predators, giving the next generation a chance to survive.
This is true, but they stop going out to hunt - if food is provided (captivity) I believe they do eat and live.
@@OntarioGuy430uhhhh I mean if they stop eating then they don’t live…. There was one guy who lost his octopus and I think he had her for years
In the wild yes, but they showed that this one was still alive after the fact, unless that was recorded footage.
Free food from a trusted source would’ve bypassed that issue. Still humans only know so much about ocean creatures. For all we know it in the wild there could be females that went thru several litters before dying.
So the fact that the eggs/babies were removed saved her life?
Yeah, that's what my mind went to hearing she had eggs. There's going to be a sad conversation for the parents and kid.
And would you do anything different?, “no, I think you nailed it!” Gives dad pat on shoulder haha! It almost cost him his house!
Ya the look on dad's face was "where do I start on the things I'd do differently" but as soon as his son patted him on the shoulder, you could tell he was just happy his son was happy. All kids deserve a dad like that.
The kid is the owner of the house 😂
That part was comedy Gold 😂😂
Dad has his priorities perfectly straight!
That look on dad's face answered that question for me 😂. Dad: Yes. Yes I probably would have bought a pass to the local aquarium instead lol. Kid: nope. Not a thing. Right dad? Dad:😬
Give this Dad the father of the year award!! That right there is a prime example of the best father that anyone could be
I mean, considering the damage some octopuses have wreaked on multi-million dollar aquaruim facilities staffed with specialists these guys honestly got off pretty lightly and they learned a valuable lesson in the process. Seems like a win to me.
IS this a "great story"? Seems like a lesson about not keeping wild animals as exotic pets. Octopus are very smart and notorious escape artists. I think that lets us know their opinion on being kept as pets.
I think they took really good care of the octopus seeing how it had eggs and the eggs hatched and they didn’t kill anything. I think they are good people and it worked out cause an expert helped to house the babies. It was a family bonding time and a memorable experience for his son. Don’t need to be so negative…
@@U-TubeAddict I think they realize it's a mistake because they, thankfully, will not sell them to individuals.
I had a tank as a kid and went through the trial and error of hatching and raising angelfish. If you dont get them out fast enough after hatching, mom eats them. Then, I had to have tanks and containers to raise them big enough to survive and also raise fresh brine shrimp to feed them. They hatched in upside-down plastic soda pop bottles in my moms kitchen. There were tubes, water, salt, fish food, slime, and the occasional dead fish. God bless parents who can allow thier children special hobbies and have the patience to wade through the trial and errors with them. I didn't become a fishologist, but I definitely learned skills for life having that hobby. Besides, the fish were absolutely fascinating to me. I loved them ❤

Best way to get your kid to respect creatures, especially the ones they adore, is by letting them view them in the wild. Or research them online. Let them know that just because you love an animal doesn’t mean you should own one, they belong in the wild.
Do you feel the same way about dogs and cats? Hamsters? Guinea pigs? Rabbits? Ferrets?
@@davidmennomoyer are you joking?! Truly? 😂 hamsters don’t exist in the wild in the USA. Most dogs are PETS, not wild. Meaning they don’t survive or thrive in the wild. Cats as well.
I feel the same way about all WILD animals. They should be left in their habitats unless they need medical care or can’t survive in the wild. Otherwise taking an octopus out of the ocean, is wrong. And breeding them, is wrong. They don’t belong in tanks. They are incredibly smart!
There is a big difference between pets and wild animals. Many pets wouldn’t survive without help from humans. I hope you do realize that. Not sure what kind of point you were trying to make with that question.
So yes, wild rabbits. Should be left alone, wild ferrets, should be left alone. Domesticated pets? Seems a bit cruel to leave them out on the streets, since domesticated means it’s not their natural habitat 🙂
@@maurakay1917 I agree. However, if you take them out of the wild to give them medical care, that is interrupting their life. They lived for a long time without human intervention....therefore, we shouldn't even intervene with our type of medical care. They are wild, they have to learn to survive.
@@maurakay1917 - ah, I see. Let me refresh your memory - in your initial post, you said - and I quote - that "just because you love an animal doesn't mean you should own one, they belong in the wild." I pointed out that not all animals belong in the wild. Not quite sure why this enrages you, given that you've just said precisely the same thing. If you'd meant "non-pets", then you should have said "non-pets". The problem with that is that, by definition, any animal kept as a pet becomes a pet - including an octopus. So what you're objecting to - I suppose - is the keeping of non-traditional pets. Or something. Look, I too agree that it's probably a pretty lousy idea to keep an octopus in a small enclosure, but if you're going to argue that all animals belong in the wild you're going to raise some eyebrows. BTW - so what if hamsters don't exist in the wild in the US? Is that honestly what you're using as a benchmark here - if it doesn't exist in the wild in the US, it's okay to keep as a pet? Using that logic, it would be okay to keep an Asian species of octopus as a pet. Is that what you believe? I certainly don't. Hamsters DO exist in the wild in Syria - so is it only bad to keep them as pets there, and okay elsewhere? You need to give this a little more thought, I'd say.
There’s an even better, massive tank with none of those issues… called the sea.
Maybe you could offer to pick them up and transport them.
Maybe you could offer to pick them up and transport them.
Maybe you could offer to pick them up and transport them.
Maybe you could offer to pick them up and transport them.
And do you eat them from the sea? Otherwise you’re just as bad
Octopus doesn't belong in a tank.
Very true, these people are negligent.
No they don’t. How cruel.
No different from any other animal.
They do. They're safer there than in ocean. They will live there longer and happier than in the freedom which is full of parasites, hunger and predators. Free animals are in constant stress.
No, an octopus doesn't belong in a tank in someone's house as a pet. It's a wild creature and irregardless of the hazards, it's just the circle of life. This dad is not teaching his kid to have respect for wild creatures, rather that it's okay to capture them and keep them as pets. If the kid's so enamored with them, take him to an aquarium, buy videos and books, support his interest but don't keep a creature in an unatural environment. It's cruel, plain and simple.
These incredibly intelligent creatures should not be kept as pets, it's equivalent to life in prison for no reason.
this souldnt Happen to any animal !!!!

Putting an extremely intelligent creature in an aquarium? Seriously? People are so selfish.
Very shellfish!
The eggs were probably fertilized because the mom was taken from the wild. Parents, I know no one likes to say "no" to your precious hatchlings anymore--but don't keep these majestic sea creatures as pets. They're so intelligent and don't deserve a life in captivity. I know Oklahoma is boring and by the looks of your house you've got money to spare. Take the kid on a trip to a preserve. Just... don't.
Totally agree.
I agree. I Totally agree ❤
They could've used that money to let the kid study marine biology and become an octopus expert. Instead they just tortured an octopus through their incompetence 🤦♂
Or consider the large variety of fish bred for captivity that can have a great quality of life in a large tank. These are fish that have no place in the wild to begin with and there are plenty of breeders interested in giving them great chances. Octopusses and most blowfish are cruel along with any other fish you have to catch wild, it ruins their lifespans.
I disagree with not keeping fish as pets because they are extremely intelligent and goldfish can form amazing bonds with owners.

That’s a precious story! Love the relationship between dad and his son. You can tell they’re close.
Knowing how intelligent they are, the father should have explained to the son that they should be free and not kept as pets in small tanks, as they don't like it any more than we would like being kept as a "pet" in a small room for the rest of our lives.
Lol. Let's be real here. How big is the tank that you live in? How well balanced is your existence? If we are honest, we all exist as if we are a pet living in a small tank. Sure we could venture out far into the wilds but we don't. We do the same thing day in and day out. Work then home to watch TV or play on the phone then to bed for more work the next day. If they give her a safe home/cave and toys to play with she is probably more than satisfied being the alpha predator in the world she has control over. She obviously felt safe/satisfied enough to last her eggs there. Octopus store sperm in order to produce offspring when they decide. I would propose that her decision to produce offspring is a good sign that she is living a good life.
@@bradprice8040 Yes, lets be real. How would you feel if you were confined to a 12 x12 room with some "toys" and you got a window to look out but could go no further?
How long would it take for you to go stir crazy? Or do you think you wouldn't have a problem? Are you aware that many people can't even live on islands because they start feeling trapped with limited areas to roam?
You're conflating monotony with actual freedom. It's one thing to go through the same routine daily, it's another thing to be forced to do it in a small room for the rest of your life.
You're also conflating reproduction with "good" conditions. You make do with what you have and has no bearing on the true quality of life. Using your logic, you could say that coed slave and prison camps must be good if people chose to have children in such conditions.
There was a case of an African boy being kept as an exhibit when the world allowed such things. He eventually committed suicide.
@@Mlogan11 we don't have the opportunity to decide when to give birth after reproducing. The process is automatic. Our only method of choosing is abstinence from sex. I have a home I own but spend 99% of my time in one room. While I am not forced into a box, I have settled into a box with toys. Everyone ends up in a small box with toys. It just happens faster for some than others. Calling the condition monotony doesn't change the reality of it. Everyone lives their life in tiny boxes. Some have more boxes than others. You have your home box. A work box. Lots of people don't move past those two boxes. Some maintain a friend's hangout box for a little while but those don't last. "Freedom" that you mention is a term that makes you feel better about your prison. The reality of the immense number of "permissions" you have to get to do anything you decide is soul crushing. If you are so free then take a 6 month excursion to anywhere out of your country but do it without using any overlord permissions. Then tell me again about your freedoms and the "box" that you don't live in.

Raising children isn't easy, but sacrificing your granite kitchen island is going above and beyond - kudos to dad.
It's okay to say NO to your kids sometimes folks! There are practical things that we want, and then there are these things. An octopus for a pet in a residential home is not practical and this is why. Kids need to learn that some things are not practical to do no matter how much you want or like them. Get him a family membership to your local aquarium so that he can go study these creatures in a controlled environment that has the knowledge, and facilities to house them.
He may grow up to be a marine scientist one day.

I love how dad promotes his son's passion. However, this particular situation is immoral. Our household mantra is 'IF YOU LOVE IT, LET IT GROW' (our other mantra is 'love doesn't lie'). My kids were never allowed pets in cages, now she's a biologist and he's a nurse! Careful what you asked for, how is caging something caring!
Let’s go through it, if you have dogs, we you cage them. If you have a cat you cage them, maybe inside a house, but it’s a house sized cage the same. If you’re interested in octopuses, read Shelby Van Pelt’s “Remarkably Bright Creatures”, and watch “My Octopus Teacher”.
Dad should have encouraged his son to study marine biology, and leave the poor octopus in the ocean.
When you love a flower you don’t cut it. When you love an octopus you don’t tank it....
What a lovely boy and an amazing dad❤
Animals like this need to live freely in the wild. Not kept as pets. What happened to learning about them through videos, photos, and nature documentaries?
Wrong. In the wild the octopus would already be dead.
That is a dreadful cage/prison for any creature, let alone a creature as intelligent as an octopus
And yet it stirred up another heart to love and care for them for all his life.
Also... Any pet needs to be in a free and natural environment. You think a Guppi is fine in a tank? Or a spider!?
Even dogs need to run and be in a pack wich they realy cant in a house or flat or on a leash...
They like them.
But OKAY at this countries border
Baby octopuses are very cute Octopuses are so smart, they're amazing creatures
It is very sad to know that for people they are just food.
"anything you'd do differently?"
Dad: *thinks of which one of 17 things he's going to say*
Son: "Nothing really, he nailed it!"
Dad: *just goes with it*
Octopuses are very intelligent beings and should NOT be kept as a pet!!
Octopus don’t belong in an aquarium but in the ocean. I’m so sick of people who think they can just do whatever they want.
People can, in fact, do whatever they want. besides the octopus was probably bred in captivity.
Rich people can get away with doing the most bizarre things on earth.
Well they can it seems🤦🏻♀️ but we'll always find excuses for thing to please us. Like just read how many replies agree this is better than the ocean since they vet food and no predator 🤦🏻♀️
@@blobbertmcblob4888 No it was not. Octopuses are always from the wild. Especially since she was pregnant.
wrong.
This little kid is going to grow up and be something great!!!
Awww he said thank you so much❤
That kid LOVES their dad. If only we could all be this close with ours
Buying your childrens love…not a great idea …
@@adelaferreira4575 I can’t believe some of your comments on this video?! They’ve spent hours together doing this, so it’s a bit negative for you to only talk about money! 🙄☹️
@@adelaferreira4575 not buying 🙄 … dad is building strong & precious EXPERIENCES with his kid!
I love my dad.
And my dad would tell me "no" whenever I got a stupid idea. (kids have stupid ideas ALL the time)
Maybe this dad could take a lesson from my dad.
This boy got an awesome dad, that's really listen and gave his boy the best teaching in his life by being curious and brave enough to care for the pet and see it develops. That's what parents should do and be curious with their kids💜☺️
It’s not a pet it’s a animal living in the ocean 😮
This is truly going to great strength in a family. I don’t know a lot about octopus’, but I could see this kids curiousity and love for an animal and the dad really making what could seem like a very big deal feel like a small one and embrace it. ❤
That’s the kid that goes to school
and praises his dad as his hero. It’s not the octopus or what it costs, son wants it and dad made it happen. Spends time and teaches him beyond providing, bond. To all the fathers who devoted themselves to their children. 🫡
What a great story! Good luck to the family to find all of the babies good homes.
"I think he nailed it". Way to go Super Dad!
This little boy will remember this short time in his life fondly for the rest of his days ❤
or he'll just grow up to be an entitled spoiled brat
@@ev25zv what an awful thing to say completely unfounded
@@TSUNAMI-MAMI I mean, those are the two options. What you said is speculation as well
@@ev25zv no… I said nothing about how he was gonna grow up. Simply he would cherish these memories for the rest of his life. You’re a weirdo.
@@TSUNAMI-MAMI in other words he's gonna grow up cherishing that memory? That's discussing how he's going to grow up. For all you know, in a few years his dad's going to buy him a $300K Lambo and he'll forget all about this.
What's weird is to pretend that spoiling kids at a young age will not make them spoiled. Have some perspective, man
What a GREAT DAD!!!!!!
Wonderful!!! The parents of this child are simply outstanding! What an amazing kid they are raising. This has the making of a Father's Day book. ❤ It made me smile....
Stop this nonsense. That poor creature shouldn't be held captive in a tank.
👏
Shut
@@blobbertmcblob4888 You are commenting under EVERY comment that says it's wrong to mistreat animals. Let's educate you. No matter how well that octopus has been treated, she was meant to live her life in the ocean. FREE. Yes, with all the predators and dangers and searching for food and shelter and everything else expected in her natural life. They're not pets. Children should be taught to RESPECT the wild, not capture it.
@@Deb_BGEXACTLY!! This is insane. I'm in a lot of the comments too, encouraging people to report this to PETA.
@@EM-mw2qr PETA is not good, they actually kill a lot of the animals they're supposed to save. I would support local animal shelters instead.
Great sense of humor and he did nail it
"I think you nailed it!" The dad face said it all!
I love this story. What a great dad and family. They got an unexpected treat and just went with it. Lol the dad trying to save all the babies is super cute. All for his boy. What a smart young man too.
