Yeah it's worth it the thing is bullet proof, I've had the original tacx neo since 2017 no issues still! My buddy with the cheaper wahoo kicker has gone through 10 trainers they just break!
Thanks for the review - the install process was exactly what I was after. These are so complicated to get going, think I'll stick with my spin bike for now
Good review of the Tacx! Overall, the Tacx is impressive with size and functions. The only downside observed was mounting the bike to the trainer. What impressed me most was the separate power calibrations. Never thought of it much before hip replacement. The ability of the trainer to flex should take stress off the frame. I'd rather be out for a ride chasing cars and biting tires. It has been smoking hot here for a few days with triple digit temperatures up to 114*. I did make it out for a couple sunset and night rides. Watching the supermoon rise with an orange tint while riding was what I was looking forward to. Thanks for all your videos!
Glad it was helpful! It's interesting using these products and trying to portray all the info and the feeling of riding. I really like the Tacx, but the cost is so high. Hopefully the hip is all good now and you are riding without issues? I also have one leg shorter than the other due to a leg brake when I was younger. Glad you been able to go for some nice rides recently! keep pushing the pedals 👍🏽
@@JourdainColeman Almost 4 years with the hip replacement. Couldn't bike for 7 years prior. Sorry to hear about your leg healing shorter. Hope you were having fun when that happened. A fellow said he hadn't seen a Mt. bike like mine in a long time. I asked what he meant. He said the kind you have to pedal. You getting all the components for the new frame? Take care Jourdain.
@@JourdainColeman Thanks JC. Haven’t rode in years. Bought the Tacx a year ago to get fit again. Finally put it together yesterday with the help of your video. I had my first ZWIFT ride today. Sore but excited. Keep doing what you do. I also bought it off the back of your review. Thanks again!
At the moment, Garmin has them on sale for $1120, at least in the USA (MSRP is $1400). The online place I typically use has them for $1120 and you get a $34 store credit on top of that.
Thank you for this in depth review. It really helped me when I was assembling my Neo 2T. Turns out mine did not come with the Drive Side 12 for through axle and now I'm waiting for an answer from Garmin on how to solve this.
Great review. Thank you. Does this product require the use of an app? I need to replace my Kurt Kinetic Rock and Roll trainer which i absolutely love due to stress fractures in the cheap steel. I love that I can just ride without tech.
Hi Jordain! I just watched the clip; thank you! Have you a comparisson from the Tacx Neo 2T and the new Wahoo Kickr Move? (or ift not with the Wahoo Kickr V6). And yes, what trainer would you personally recommend? And b) can I put a 32mm wheel in the front-tire-block of the Tacx Neo? Thanks, and greetings from Germany. Oliver
Hello Jourdain, Thanks for the comprehensive review; very balanced and thorough. I'm thinking of purchasing one, though I do have a couple of pressing questions if you'll indulge me: 1. You highlighted the tight squeeze regarding disc brake calipers. One year on from this video, has it held up without rubbing? 2. I'll be running a 2016 3T Exploro on the trainer, at least for the time being (I don't have a fleet of bikes to choose from). This iteration of the Exploro has the hang loose rear mech hanger which comes away with the derailleur body from the frame when the thru axle is removed (one of those bike industry solutions to a problem that never existed!). Would this have any potential issues with installation? I've tried to get through to Garmin a few times about this, but am always put on hold for 20-30 minutes, so generally give up after 5. An overly and unnecessarily long message perhaps, but I'd be grateful for any help and or advice. Cheers, Tom
These are on sale for about a grand I think with a coupon for the motion plates for free. My 2T will be here Monday. As far as the caliper goes, you can just remove it and hang it off the frame with zip ties if it is a problem. Im guessing it may be in my MTB.
Brilliant in-depth review. Probably need to upgrade my Elite Drivo 2 soon and would love this!! 😍. However hard to justify the price over the Kickr Core or the new Zwift trainer, both being 50% less and just as capable. (Like you hinted at the end)👍. Although surely it's due for a price drop or upgrade as it's been that price for years 🤔
Thanks for the great review which I didn't find before today :). Do you have any comment on how hot this trainer would/should get? If I sprint with it like 30s and over 500W then it seems to get quite hot. Normal?
To be honest, I didn't notice the trainer getting hot but then I wasn't looking out for it. I use the Kickr Core mainly now and I've not noticed any considerable heat. I would check for rubbing if you are concerned
what is it that you said at the end? "If you have the dollar, I guess you might be disappointed"? or "If you' get the dole, ah, I guess you might be disappointed"
I had a Neo 2T until it went kaput just recently with what seems like a pretty common fault (power-on and fans run full, no lights or connectivity and no resistance) - to Garmin's credit they have been good at arranging its return and replacement but in the meantime I decided to get a Wahoo Kickr and so glad I did, it's so much better!
@@JourdainColeman Have to say I always used a Neo, when it failed I got a Kickr. Its now growing back and replaced with a 2T. The Kickr (v5) had 2 software faults, one in game and the other spiking since 4.3.0 firmware, when downgraded the spiking stoped.... Support were useless, truly incompetent. The only good thing is that they have now offered a refund. Freeride with a Neo is so much better than the Kickr in my opinion with a greater force required due to the virtual flyweel on the Kickr. Its horses for courses I guess. Shame as the Kickr design is really good but given I do 8 hours a week indoors I need consistency Good review btw
Hi man, I find it very hard to get moving and it stops too soon, i’m talking about 0% gradient. Do you Think the kickr core is easier to put on and keep in moving? Thank you
the fluctuation on the Wahoo is the same. the power smoothing is only making it more readable. it doesn't mean that there is no fluctuation. So the only thing the wahoo is doing is presenting it like its a flat line while its actually not.
I hear you! I do find it easier to keep a smooth cadence when I see a smooth wattage. But I think it can also make you think you are smooth when you aren't.
I have not sued the Kickr V6, I'm still trying to get my hands on one. What I would say is the Tacx is a great trainer, there is no hiding that. I'm sure the Kickr V5/V6 is as well but without using them both it would be unfair to say one is better than the other.
It says powermeter is plus or minus 1 percent. My tacx gives about 5-10% less power than my powermeter on my bike. The powermeter on my bike is the same as I have on the bikes in the gym so I don’t trust the powermeter on my tacx. It is very demotivating to ride this powermeter so I always connect to the powermeter of my bike, then I at least have the same figures I am used to.
Im living in an apartment and i bought the Wahoo Kickr Core Smart Trainer. AFter 5 minutes the neighbours rang the doorbell what the heck i was doing. The Kickr Core flywheel produced a very DEEP bass resonance coming from the flywheel. I packed the device and returned it full refund. I do not mind the chain cassette sound but i do care about the flywheel producing this bass resonance. How is that with the TACX Neo2T? The resonance is impossible to record because the resonance is too deep. You can feel and it goes straight trough floors and walls
To be honest this is not a perfect trainer. 1 noises coming out. 2Resistance is feeling strange3 cadence sensor not working well. Definitely that wasn’t my dream trainer.
very nice video by the way. Nice pace of presentation and going trough all the different segments. Well done mate!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Just bought one second hand off eBay with no instruction booklet and this video has been invaluable, thanks so much!🙏🏻
Awesome! Have fun riding indoors 👌🏼 Glad the video was helpful!
What is your impression on 2nd hand neo 2T any observations ?
Just bought a new one on sale. The instruction manual is a joke to be honest.

I would also recommend to use a Brake Spacer on your Disc Brakes, so you don't accidentally press them on the trainer.
You deserve 100x your subscribers.

Thank you for sharing the review. Just a quick one, would the 2.7mm spacer damage the frame since most road bike frames are standardised at 142mm?
Spent Sunday setting this up as per your video. Invaluable. Thanks very much indeed.

Great video as always. Quick question - can I use my own QR skewer instead of the Garmin provided one?
An honest in depth review, what about MTB compatability?
no problem with that, although keep in mind that cadence reading could be erratic, if your crank cant reach the inbuilt cadence sensor
Thanks vor the vid. Very good and clear explained 👍
Love your comment in the end. So true :-)

Has anyone used the motion plates that are now available with the Neo Tacx ?
I bought them but haven’t used them quite yet.
Recent failure of the electronic card. It seems to be fragile
Looking to purchase this as its my son wants to ride too. How is the trainer fairing after all this time?
Not sure if this is the place to ask but does anyone know what to do if the firmware update fails and the tacx is now problematic?
Sorry, I've not experienced that before. Maybe contact Tacx directly.
Weird resistance feel...not at all realistic. Always feels like you're riding thru sand. Tried to like it, but could never get on terms...sold mine.
By what did you replace it ?
origionally billed as "No Maintenance ever"..............it needs to be taken apart and lubed every other year.
""...suited to people who like expensive cycling things, which is pretty much all cyclists."
Guilty as charged!🤣
