Sometimes it feels very odd to see Claudia in videos. Not for any bad reasons, it's just funny to see you in what seems like a vintage wonderland, only for somebody in jeans and a hoodie (time traveller?) pop up. The contrast is certainly interesting haha.

It's so funny, I'm a costume designer and starting to dress more vintage and somehow I know more about Victorian fashion and further back in history than I know about vintage 20th century Haha! Thanks for the lovely video!

I have one petticoat that is actually vintage (If i'm not mistaken) it came from the grandma, who said she used to wear it when she was younger.
My grandma also says "You'll always like whats in style until you get old, that's how young people work." Well I'll just be here wearing your clothes and shopping in your closet, alright grandma?...

My grandmother gifted my an old skirt from her mom. It's a red pencil skirt with HUGE POCKETS. Like seriously it's AMAZING. She adjusted it so it would fit me and I have loved it since the moment I put it on. :D She also gave me a bunch of belts for my dresses, they also had to be cut and adjusted but I really like them. So yeah, grandma's got some lit shit hanging in her closet.

Jessica, I don't know if you have an interest in fashion that goes further back than the 50s, but if you do, you'd probably enjoy the UA-cam channel prior attire. They have really interesting videos on clothing styles that date all the way back to the medieval period. It's pretty fascinating!

Oh the lampshade effect with short petticoats, the agony for tall people....
As you mentioned lolita fashion, I'd recommend Classical Puppets A-line pettis, they're ridiculously good quality for around 30-40€ and I find they go great under vintage dresses for those extra poofy days :)

Not enough people talk about the bathroom tips, I gotta say. I struggled for the first few months of wearing pettis. There was a solid three weeks where I just didn't use the bathroom for 16 hours because I wasn't willing to wrestle with them in public restrooms. (the cubicles are teeny in America yo) I'm like 4 years in and I still don't feel like I've got all the skills I really need for functioning in petticoats. ... doesn't stop me from wearin the crap outta them though:P
My most common problem: How the heck do you handle the embarrassment of having to pull your dress out from underneath someone who wasn't paying attention when they sat too close? because I constantly have people sitting on the edge of my skirts when I'm wearing petticoats. and I've been so mortified that I usually just sit really still and hope they get up before I need to leave. WHAT DO I DO?

    • @inkypunk
      @inkypunk 6 років тому +54

penyginger Honestly I'd be more embarrassed to find out I was sitting on someone else's clothes and inconveniencing them, I'd feel even worse if they were too afraid to tell me . If someone sits on my dress or my coat I politely ask them to move. Just make it a joke and smile? "Excuse me, I'm so sorry to bother you but I'm stuck."
If it makes you feel better, I've taken someone out with a bustle before because I forgot about the extra volume behind me!

I found an old Malco Modes petticoat in my mom's cedar closet. it was a small and soft one but I loved it so much, and i managed to convince her to get me a crinoline and a square dancing petticoat! I love wearing the crinoline with the old petticoat in a long, fit and flare dress. It's absolutely gorgeous, I wear it over my shift to keep from getting scratched but it looks so full!

I've been wearing a petticoat, which I presume was meant for a child but can't confirm because it was bought second hand, for about 12 years. It's the soft net type and has pretty good volume, and when worn with my cotton petticoat over top, makes using the toilet very difficult! What I've found very helpful is to wear a standard, straight-cut slip underneath. I do what you said in the video, flipping the skirt+petti combo up around my waist, then pull the slip up over it inside-out. This captures all the fluff in a tube and bam, hands free! If you're quick, you don't squish your petticoat or wrinkle your skirt. Anyhow, hopefully all that is helpful, and thank you for so many great tips and info! 💕

I dry all my square dance petticoats by draping them over the bell shape of an umbrella (inside out). I store them hanging in tulle bags so that they can breathe and periodically remove, fluff and rebag them. When i want to wear one I place it in the dryer only long enough for it to warm thoroughly and then shake it until completely cooled. Many of my petticoats are vintage from the 50s, 60s and 80s and they are still beautiful and fluffy! Great video, thanks for sharing.

Typically you have two choices; a thin half slip, or a petticoat so poofy you have trouble walking through doorways. 😆 I just wanted a little fluff, not cloud level fluff☁️. I am finally going to be getting an actual petticoat. Up until now i've Literally just been using a tiered flouncy skirt that i bought at a garage sale. It worked surprisingly well but i think its high time i get an actual petticoat

Really helpful! I only have one petticoat. I made it and it's not very full, so I plan on making another soon. I'll keep this in mind!

First off, I love your Chanel! It's amazing and super helpful in learning BSL, and secondly I'm in America and had no idea there were different kinds of dryers?? We only have tumble dry here in my town??

Thank you for including Square Dance Petticoats 😂 Most people forget them but I always feel you can get them in a lot more variations than 'normal' vintage petticoats...
The really short but really fluffy petticoats were worn (not anymore though) for Clogging because you needed to move you legs and a normal square dance petticoat would not allow that. At least that is what I have been told 🙈
Have you ever tried fitting three people with petticoats in the back of a car? 😂
Since I defenitly need a new petticoat, I will propably check the brands you recommend 😊 Thanks 😊

One of my nightmares about my lovely dresses as a kid were the itchy petticoats it took to make the skirts puffy. I loved the puff but hated the itch.
