- Investigators work out of an office on a boat. Sounds like 'Surfside 6' but it's actually 'Riptide' which updated the concept for the 1980s. It had a good two-and-a-half season run, and as Stephen J Cannell production it deserves a theme by Mike Post and Pete Carpenter. Two opens and a close.

This is another one I have the all-in-one DVD of that I have finished-- Stephen J. Cannell was one who really knew his craft, and this is some of his best work, IMO.
great theme when TV shows at themes I miss tv themes
I can hear Murray Bozinsky's cackling laugh now....
Awesome TV series 😎👍🎬
Pure Mike Post '80s magic. I have no idea whether or not this show was actually any good - the fact I've never heard of it before leaves me skeptical - but the cheery and fun theme alone makes me want to watch it!
Riptide was definitely a good show, it's just arguably a little more obscure than similar series of the era (Magnum PI, The A-Team, Simon & Simon, etc)...did well enough to last for 3 seasons, plus it continued in reruns on USA for another couple of years afterwards.
It was a good show
loved this show
Three Vietnam veterans, two war buddies (Perry King, Joe Penny) and a computer/electronic whiz (Thom Bray)-turned-private investigators in L.A.
I remember watching Riptide.
Riptide from the Creator of The A-Team, Wiseguy & HUNTER and from the Producer of The Greatest American Hero, Hardcastle & McCormick and 21 Jump Street
Works for me.
this theme is like a proto-Simon & Simon theme
I loved this show as a kid immediately. Amazon Firestick is one of my good decisions, watching this now on Crackle channel. I just finished watching 8 seasons of Magnum P.I. on FREEVEE
Those girls are now in their 60’s.
I always got this show and "Simon & Simon" mixed up. Doesn't help that the themes are very similar.
Awesome theme and TV show! Stephen J. Cannell's company was in the process of redesigning his production company logo around 1981 and he started being referred to as a mogul at the time and he asked his publicist that he had at the time how he can get that mogul thing off of him. And she said to him, we're redesigning your logo how about we do something with you at the typewriter? And he said yes, and the first logo debuted in early 1981 at the end of the pilot of The Greatest American Hero. Some people call Cannell's logo sequence, "The Writer" and they are right! I believe Mike Post and Pete Carpenter created Cannell's jingle music. What would become Cannell's extended video theme in 1984 was two separate jingles over this logo at the end of Greatest American Hero. When the 8 xylophone notes jingle played at the end of the show it was followed by some notes that sounded like the end of the theme, "Believe It or Not"! They sometimes played a lower sounding version of Cannell's main jingle at the time. This is the one that became part of Cannell's extended theme in 1984 with the logo sequence that ends this video. This very logo was parodied by many shows including The Simpsons and Family Guy!
"When the 8 xylophone notes jingle played at the end of the show it was followed by some notes that sounded like the end of the theme, "Believe It or Not"!"
And those 8 xylophone notes also spelled out the name of the outfit, in 8 syllables-- "Ste-phen-J.-Can-nell Pro-duct-ions"!
@@bmasters1981 That's cool, I always thought it was the 5 guitar notes that played over the violins/keyboard.
This show was great but sadly it was on opposite Moonlighting and that killed Riptide in the ratings the network should have moved Riptide into a better time slot on a different night. The last episode of Riptide they did a funny parody of Moonlighting where the Riptide guys were hired by a studio to investigate death threats being sent to the stars of a show just like Moonlighting. This was Riptide's final episode and it was really funny.
The riptide😢😂
They should make a crossover of Riptide and The A Team
I wonder what the robot is up to these days
Poor Roboz
Anybody know if that old Helicopter 🚁 is still flying
2 1/2 seasons? I thought it was three…
He means technically. The first wasn’t a full year.
Every single show that debuted on NBC in September 1983 was canceled by the end of te season. Maybe Riptide should have debuted earlier.
They completely ripped off the opening titles from Airwolf and Miami Vice for the last year’s intro.
I liked this show.. but what with Anne Francis's boat being entirely crewed by bikini- clad women?
Post and Carpenter's theme completely ruined by unnecessary vocals.
I like this beach boys-ish interlude to return into the main theme
