yeah, I dunno if he is underrated. At the time, he was rated high as a guitarist. Of course, a fair few "brit rock" bands were evolutions from great bands like the Stone Roses. John Squire - now that's a good guitarist. You can see how Coxon and others were influenced.
Some moments when the hands get loose enough and fluid , that this can sound so good and extremely satisfying to get down. The intro riff is one of those where concentration seems to kill it but keep coming back to it and it falls into place. Great lesson
I remember this coming on the radio for the first time and thinking - "Man, that guitar is Hendrixy. It's great!" 30 years later, it just occurred to me to check it out on youtube. Thanks!
As I’ve said before, in an ocean of pentatonic and blues scale riffs, it’s refreshing to hear these triad based riffs. Thank you so much. Now please give us some Will Sergeant, pleeeeeeaaaaasssssseee😀
@@acpg Don't think you have done anything like it before, but it would be cool to see the bass and guitar parts covered for something like My Kingdom. Like many Bunnymen tracks, the interplay between the two instruments is really key to making the track as great as it is.
A friend of mine gave me a tape with the copy of Leisure in 1991 ... and for almost 30 years, I've been trying (and failing) many times to play this riff properly. And now, thanks to this fantastic tutorial, I can't stop playing it ... Many, many thanks Adrian. I would oleased to get a Durutti Column "sketch for summer" tutorial.
I was thinking about this track only yesterday on the dog walk and was considering having a crack at it, but YT serendipity strikes again - it looked way too tricky for my levels of patience! Sounds good though, got to be tonight's mission, cheers :)
You've nailed it. I've been playing this since 1991 and have never been happy with my version. So many thanks. ps suede starcrazy is another masterpiece of indie playing, hint hint!
Thanks! What a great trip on the baggy bandwagon this song was! The Cure's 'Never Enough' being another one. Perhaps a future ACPG video? I am loving the new bins too. They look like they are made from treacle.
Back in the day I didn't appreciate the angular style of playing from Coxon and was annoyed at having to listen to Parklife 18 times per day, but after I fell in love with Beetlebum I reevaluated their whole catalogue, and now I love exactly the angular aspect of Coxon's playing. :D
Thank you do much for this video. I found another with just playing and tabs and couldn't make any sense of it. The chord shapes aren't complicated but the complicated groove and the rapid fire changes make this way more difficult than it sounds. Nice Super Champ also.
I swear that there is one string off note on the first beat of the second bar of the opening riff. Pretty damn close though, I never actually worked it out so hats off.
Love this tune. Great one to play. The hardest part is getting the slide parts to sound really slidy.i didnt realise that the neck position was the way to go but it sounds good so I'll try it as well. I love Coxons playing.
This is fantastic, thanks! I constantly hear people being critical of Leisure (including Damon!), but I think it's one of the best albums I have ever come across. I guess I have low standards...
Flipppin yes!!! Thanks Adrian. Once again you read my mind! Loved your previous Blur tutorials and have always hoped for more. Mighty Coxon is one of the greatest in my opinion. So inventive. Would be great to have more Blur tutorials! Not many on the internet and most don't cut the mustard! Any Elliot Smith in the box? Thanks again.
Love your tutorials Adrian, I have learned loads of cracking tunes from you. Have you considered any Manic Street Preachers? James Dean Bradfield is a bit of a guitar hero of mine!
When I heard those guitar chords in 91 as a kid I then knew then somehow that Indie was going to take over the UK and it did. Thing is most kids were listening to 60's bands music at that time and it was going to happen, it was an undercurrent culture bursting through. Weirdest thing is I grew up just accross the road from Goldsmiths college in the mid 80's the college where these tunes were being born by Coxon
@@smoshbooz All great players (though I'm not familiar with David Pajo) and I've been lucky enough to hear them all live, but for me Graham is the best of that era. I'd also add at least Lee Ranaldo and Ira Kaplan to that list.
@@trickfall8752 ah I mentioned Pajo since he played in Slint and Spiderland is my favourite album. And yes! Great suggestions, forgot about the Sonic Youth duo for a moment. Amazing that you've had that chance. I'm only 23 but at least I've seen Billy Corgan haha. Looking forward to seeing more though, with all those reunions going on. But yes, it is indeed a matter of opinions, I love blur and Coxon also anyway
@@smoshbooz Oddly I never got around to listening to Slint, but I'll check them out. One of the benefits of being old and having always lived either near, or in NYC is I've been able to see and hear a lot of amazing bands.
WOW- nailed it. bravo. We in the US (probably mis-characterized) them as "Manchester" along with Happy Mondays, Black Grape, Stone Roses (waiting for you to do Daybreak), Primal Scream, Charlatans, etc...
Easy to do since the Manc sound was so big at the time. The Charlatans weren't technically either but they moved up to Manchester to be a part of the scene so kind of are by association. Some great tunes came out though and alongside the US grunge was a great time for music in general :)
More VU is always good! I recall Venus in Furs being requested before; there was some question of whether Adrian would procure an electric viola for it.
Hi Adrian I love the colour of your Les Paul, my fiancee is getting me one for Christmas..Could you tell what colour the guitar is please as its the one I like most.. Is it Bourbon by any chance. Many thanks Wayne..Ps you are a great teacher and your explanation is superb for a novice like me 5 years in.
Don’t believe the hate, the whole album is actually really good. A bit dated in some ways but it’s a great fusion of a Madchester/shoegaze sound The bsides during that era are also great tracks
Graham coxon so underrated. One of the best guitarists of his generation
Couldn't agree more.

TOTALLY
"Sing" and "She's so High" are both great songs from that album.
She’s so high was the first song they wrote as a band.
And Bang as well

Maybe not their greatest track, but honestly my favorite Blur track and the one that got me first interested about 25 years ago.
how refreshing. a guy who puts himself in front of a camera and concentrates on the song. good stuff.

Unbelievable 30 years! Yes just been listening to the track...guitar awesome! Bass and drums too!
One of the funnest tunes I've learned from this channel - thank you, Adrian! My daughter is learning the vocal - we'll have a good time with it.
